Dodd’s latest installment is sure to make bug lovers of us all. Follow the fearless young, curly haired narrator as he explores all types of bugs like “springy jumpy leapy bugs” or “whiny-buzzy-sound bugs” found in the grass, under logs, in the sky and even at a picnic. Simple strings of choice adjectives move the story along at a great read-a-loud pace and the bouncy rhythm never misses a beat. Dodd’s language is as explosive and colorful as her full spread illustrations. Using bright, bold col...more

This brightly colored book is a cheerful exploration of the world of insects that is less about scientific accuracy and more about an adoration of our six-legged friends. The book moves quickly from bug to bug, from “jumpy leapy bugs” to “slimy crawly creepy bugs.” All are appreciated for their differences until the end when a spider appears! It is a great twist that children are sure to enjoy.

Dodd’s art is what really takes this book beyond a run-of-the-mill insect book. Filled with bright colo...more

I love bugs is a short story that details different types of bugs and uses a ton of descriptive words.

BIG, SLIMY, CLITTER-CUTTER, FRILLY, GLIDE, FURRY.

This book would be great to incorporate into a literacy station that allows kids to create descriptive stories and can illustrate types of words from illustrations.

EX: BIG -- Students could draw something that is big and write BIG in very large letters.

SPRINGY -- Students could draw words in a different type of font.

Teacher would know that student...more

Cute (N) nursery story. Very simple tale about a boy and bugs. Very colorful illustrations of every bug you can imagine. Yuck! My daughter enjoyed the book. She likes bugs, haha. I thought it was cute and I can see how it is fitting for small children. Great way to interact children in the story. Talk to them about different bugs and where they can be found.

Children who like bugs will love this book. It rhymes and name different kinds of bugs. The age for this book would be 3 to 6 This book is like a science lesson in a book.It has new words for older children to read. This book would make a good conversation starter about the different types of bugs and which ones do the children like the best.

Fun to read aloud because of the rhyming onomatopoeia. As I was reading it, I thought it would be great to read to kids who are wary of bugs because the kid in the story loves 'em all. However, the end kind of ruined that idea, as he runs away from a spider in terror. I'm always trying to convince my kids that spiders are good!

This is a great storybook and picture book about bugs. I can read this is a classroom to introduce a lesson on bugs and or insects. I would read this book starting in Pre-k or Kindergarten. Students can write and draw about their favorite type of bug or a bug they they have seen before in a science journal.

The little girl describes different kinds of bugs that she loves. This story is adorable. Creative fun words are used to describe the different bugs. Also, each page rhymes which makes it much more fun to read aloud. My son adores this story and I don't mind reading it.

I liked the multitude of descriptive words used here--made for a fun read-aloud. I also enjoyed the illustrations. I do wish there had been labels for all of the bugs and what they were called--for those non-bug-lovers among us that would be super helpful.

I wasn't in love with the pictures or the text, but this book does a great job of describing all of the different types of bugs in the world. The kids that I read this to really enjoyed trying to name all of the various bugs presented here.

Where was this book a few summers ago for our bug-themed Summer Reading program? Emma Dodd does a sweet job with this book, full of rhyme and alliteration. Great for toddlers and preschoolers alike. Adorable illustrations, too!

Emma Dood is one of my faves due to her playful style. This bug book is a winner and does a great job with "sounds" and vocab for toddlers and the PST crowd. The ending is fun and predictable poor ole spiders get a bad rap.
Amy Carr

In this book the character describes his infatuation with bugs. This book would be ideal for an intro lesson to insects. It also involves a lot of rhyming and repition.
Erin
A nice rhyming entry for fans of Ehlert and Fleming. The illustrations are BOLD and BIG and very nicely done. The insects are fun and bold and bright.

Rhyming, repetitive and simmple. Good for early literacy and Story time. Not progressive narrative, so can leave pages out to shorten for younger kids.
Anne Robertson
Tons of descriptive words. Good for teaching adjectives. Could be used for science and talking about different types of bugs and where bugs live.
