Five women are missing from the sleepy mountain town of Cleary, North Carolina, and a blue ribbon has been left near where each woman was last seen. Lilly Martin has returned to Cleary to close the sale of her cabin. But when her car skids and strikes a stranger, Ben Tierney, as he emerges from the woods, they've no choice but to wait out a brutal blizzard in the cabin. An...more

Recommends it for: Fans of psycological thrillers, rather than action
I had trouble finishing this and when it's about a suspense story, that means a lot. Plus, the romance part was too weak and unsatisfying IMHO.

Lilly is somehow stranded in an isolated mountain cabin, along with Ben Tierney, a man she's met some months ago and liked. However, women have been disappearing lately in their quiet town and somehow, the more time she spends with him, the more she becomes convinced he's the culprit. Her ex-husband, the town's chief of police, freaks out when he learns t...more

Listened to this book on the drive to and from SC at Thanksgiving. It was a way to fill up the long and empty miles, but as a piece of literachoor - it was an enormous piece of feculent nonsense.

Where to start? How about the part where Lily, the heroine, convinced she is snowed in with a serial kidnapper/murderer, has hot monkey sex with him, despite the whole HE'S A FREAKIN' MURDERER thing.

Or how about the fact that the hot, monkey sex happens between a woman who is weak from a nearly-fatal ast...more

Excelente policial.

A...more

Sandra Brown? Escritora a seguir!

No geral,...more

It is not often that I finish a book and end up not liking it, but this is one of those books. If I had another audio book to listen to I would have quit this book. The story was very predictable, which I can sometimes handle, but only when the characters are interesting, this was not the case for this book. I found the only interesting characters were Merilee and Scott, who seemed to me the most normal people in the book and that is saying a lot. I could see the last scene coming just about the...more

my mom loves trashy nyt bestsellers. i don't. this book reads like it smells like rotten hooker pussy. the plot twist wasn't enough to make me want to give a fuck. if you like books that go out of their way to needlessly wrap things up at the end, this book is for you. honestly, my time would have been better spent masturbating to internet porn.

Conflict has to be of my favorite aspects of a novel second only to foreshadowing. When I plot, one of my main concerns is developing both internal and external conflict, but I don't stop there. I take those two differnt types of conflict and twine them. When I'm able to blend the two in such a way that each draws on the other increasing the tension and the stakes for my characters, I know I've hit that sweet spot in my story.

Sandra Brown's thriller CHILL FACTOR does a beatuiful job of blending...more

I've only read one Sandra Brown book in the past, Lethal, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so I was excited to try another one. Unfortunately for me, I picked this one. Wow. What a giant disappointment.

It would take me ages to detail the many, many things I hated about this story and frankly, I've lost enough of my life to this terrible book already, so I'll just list the general problems: completely cliche, unrealistic, TSTL characters doing the most ignorant things imaginable with no logical expla...more

Really good romantic suspense as usual from SB. Had me guessing until almost the very end, lots of interesting side stories and suspects.

This is a great read. This is definitely a page turning chilling thriller that takes place over 24 hours in a storm. I recommend it.

There are several reasons why I did not finish this book. To begin with, I read a foreign edition of it, and the title pretty much gave away the killer. I skimmed the ending, which only confirmed that I was right about who committed the murders. Also, I found some of the dialogue to be somewhat strange, even dull. Definitely not something I have come to expect from Sandra Brown. Bottom line, I was disappointed in Chill Factor and would not recommend it.

REVIEW OF AUDIO & EBOOK; JUNE 1, 2014: 4 1/2 STARS
Narrator: Stephen Lang

I gave up on the audio halfway through (Lang always makes me drift off and start thinking about other things like what to eat for dinner...) and I read the rest of the book, after I backtracked a few chapters.

I'd tried to listen to the audio several times but I have psychological block where this narrator is concerned. I've also tried to read this book, once when I bought the paperback back in 2005 but never went past o...more

I like Sandra Brown's later stories because they tend to have more mystery and a romantic twist. The mystery in the story really worked as it took me quite some time to figure out whodunnit, and why. I loved that aspect of this story and I really liked the characters. It wasn't just Tierny and Lilly. I also liked, Scott, Wes and Dutch as secondary characters. The small town aspect and the horrible blizzard really made this story more complete and believable. The one issue that I did have with th...more

Five women have disappeared without a trace and local police chief Dutch Burton is doing all he can but he is distracted since his wife Lilly Martin has just divorced him. Upon clearing out their winter cabin just before a blizzard hits, Dutch leaves in frustration thinking Lilly is right behind him on the road. Unfortunately Lilly has fallen asleep and when she awakens, the storm has been going strong for hours and the roads are precarious, to say the least. When someone jumps out in front of h...more

Okay – so I can’t say it was a complete waste of time, but in all fairness and honesty – boy, did that story drag along. The plot is actually quite interesting. Two strangers (well sort of) are stuck in a mountain cabin during a snow blizzard – that’s Lilly Martin and a very sexy Ben Tierney. Would be nice, wouldn’t it, however, Lilly becomes more and more worried, though not a hundred percent convinced that Ben is a killer.

The other characters are Lilly’s ex-husband, Dutch the police officer in...more

O antes...
