The book traces the unique life and artworks of the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh from his birth in 1853 to his death by suicide in 1890. The biography discusses many aspects of his life such as his various comrades, living arrangements, etc., and it traces his decent into madness later in life.

I found this book at Jervis Public Library's summer book sale. I thought that I would appreciate learning about a famous artist, since I am taking a pottery class. This was a very detailed book about Vincent Van Gogh. However, as a elementary school librarian, this book is too detailed for my students. They would find this book very boring. This book is geared more for high school students and young adults.

Ok, so this was likely written as a textbook for high school, but I didn't know that going in. Yes, it is an account of van Gogh's life, but didn't really include much of what I wanted to know, like more of what was going on in that mind of his. Interesting, but not one I'd recommend.
