Ollie by Olivier Dunrea is the sweet, silly tale of a willful unhatched goosling who refuses to leave his egg.
Goslings Gossie and Gertie are impatiently awaiting the arrival (hatching) of stubborn Ollie who repeatedly says "I won't come out!" The goslings cleverly use reverse psychology (telling Ollie: "Dont come out!") to finally coax Ollie out.
The text features a large font and less than 60 words with repetition.

Surprisingly my 3-yo loved this just a bit more than my 2-yo. Not to say that my 2 yo didn't, My 3-yo was just more interested and enthusiastic about it. I think it is because she is beginning to understand the egg-to-living creature concept and she also got a kick out of the resistance: "I won't come out" - part of the book - which she could relate to. ONce again, well done by Olivier Dunrea!
Baby's first book about reverse psychology. But also funny, warm, and one of our favorites. The tension of the story (Ollie won't come out of his egg) is simple but compelling, and the end still brings a smile to my face. Dunrea's illustrations are bright, expressive, and appealing.
The illustrations are cute as always. I love the facial expressions and "reverse psychology" they use to get Ollie out of the egg. But again, as usual I struggle with the abrupt ending...I guess I just expect more wrap-up, even from a children's board book!
I love Dunrea's books! This one is no exception, and my 2 year old had fun seeing Ollie's egg, then Ollie! "Egg, Duck,! Duck in dat Egg!"
I liked this better than Ollie the Stomper. Missed the ending because I had to leave the room to get Natalie something.
Megan loves this book, and I love the humor. A great boardbook read. I want to buy it to add to the collection.
Very sweet story about waiting for Ollie to hatch. Lovely illustrations.
Ollie's still inside of his egg and he WON'T COME OUT!
Gossie and Gertie await the arrival of Ollie!
yet again, another book david can recite.
Ollie just won't leave the egg...yet.
Very cute and simple, both in pictures and text. Charming is the best word for the series.
Dunrea has a real gift at drawing emotions on geese. Even a very little child (and these books are just the right pace for babies and toddlers) can figure out what the geese are feeling by looking at the pictures.
I really recommend all these books.

A sweet and simple addition to the collection of Dunrea's work.

I think this is my favorite of the Dunrea gosling books. My daughter & I especially love the last line. We like to think that Ollie is a cheeky bird.
I *love* all of these stories by Dunrea. When I have kids of my own these will definitely be some of the first I read to them!
I love this series of books. I think it is one that parents enjoy reading as much as the kids.
The Gossie and Ollie books are adorable. They make excellent gifts to parents and/or toddlers.
One of my favorite children's books I have read this year. Love the drawings.

Since his debut in 1983, author and illustrator Olivier Dunrea has created a steady stream of picture books, including concept books, stories of family life—modern and ancient—and stories about artists. Many of Dunrea's picture books testify to his love of animals and his interest in archaeology and folklore of the British Isles, and several—including Ravena, The Trow-Wife's Treasure, and Bear Noe...more
