Leo Lionni's vivid, playful mice engage young readers to learn not only their ABC's but also colors and numbers. Mice of different colors begin to play, then numbers and letters are introduced giving children and adults the opportunity to discuss early reading concepts while enjoying Lionni's adorable illustrations. This board book's durability and small size also allow readers to become familiar with books on their own and will surely be read again and again.

He received the 1984 American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner--for Inch by Inch, Frederick, Swimmy, and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse. Leo Lionni died in October of 1999 at his home in Tuscany, Italy, at the age of 89.
