A very sweet story about a young girl Verity whose cat, Mabel dies of old age. Verity feels guilty for not appreciating Mabel enough when she was alive and tries to preserve Mabel as a mummy after learning in school how the Ancient Egyptians did so with their cats. The story tells of Verity's quest to try to conceal Mabel in her wardrobe away from her father and grandparents as she does not want to bury Mabel in the garden under the 'dirty earth' with the worms and in the dark!

The Cat Mummy is a story which focuses on the main character Verity who has sadly lost her mother at a young age. She lives with her grandmother, grandfather and her father and her cat Mabel who is very old. Verity's mother died when she was a baby and although she is desperate to find out more about her mother she is terrified that the sensitive subject will upset her family. She feels that the only one she can speak to about her mother is her cat Mabel. Unfortunately because of Mabel's age she ...more

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a fiction, story book that could be recommended to children in year 5 and 6 to read. This book is ideal to have in the reading corner of the classroom or then in the school library for children to take and read in their own time. The story is about a girl, whose mother died when she was born and no one in her family ever spoke about the death of her mother. She had a cat called Mabel and she was very old. One day the cat went missing and after searchin ...more

This is my first time reading a book by Jacqueline Wilson and I have to say it was one of my best reads so far. This is mainly because the storyline brought back memories, when my own loving grand-mother lived with me while I was growing up. It also touched on problems I could relate to and to so many others: coping with the death of a loved pet and dealing with a class bully.

‘Verity’ the main character, a young happy school-going child only realizes how much she loved her lazy cat ‘Mabel’ when

The story is worth reading, especially for parents and adolescence. The story itself does provides a golden opportunity for parents to know how children interpret complication in the reality. Adolescence, however, can further build up their understanding towards complication. They have a chance to think about life and death as well.

The story attempts to view life and death from a little girl whose mother was dead when she was small. Obviously she hasn't experienced death and known little about i

I bought this for a book tree MissMarkey's planning while I'm staying with her and read it before registering it. A good book!

Verity memiliki seekor kucing tua bernama Mabel. Mabel sangat malas, lamban, dan membosankan. Tetapi, ia selalu setia mendengarkan cerita Verity.

The Cat Mummy is about a young girl Verity's woe as her beloved cat Mabel disappears. Mabel is eventually found half-dead and with an effort to preserve the great memories of her cat, Verity secretly turns her in to a replica of an Egyptian cat mummy! Though Verity comes from a family tainted with death of her mother at her birth and so communicating the death of Mabel proves difficult for her. Instead Mabel's death becomes a secret, plaguing young Verity day and night until eventually she is fo ...more

Tepuk bahu tiga kali untyuk Jaquiline Wilson!

Tulisan Jaque asik. Saya baru "mengenal dia" sebetulnya.

This book was sad at times because Verity's cat Mabel dies and she decides to wrap her up like the Egyptian's did. With old sheets and then she decorated her with egyptian symbols. Then Verity hid Mabel in a draw string bag in her wardrobe. She didn't tell anyone not her gran not her grandad not her dad and not her mum because her mum died the day she was born.Verity hid her secret until one day her gran went up stairs to get something out of her wardrobe and her screamed and screamed because thei

Kucing Verity hilang.

Verity

Dame Jacqueline Wilson (a very deserved title!) is, in my opinion, the best contemporary children's writer. She writes perfectly, in content, theme, style and accessibility for children from aged 6 to 13 (ish - of course this varies among children). She writes flawlessly for children, I could not find a single fault.

She is never patronizing and introduces young people to important life issues such as love, poverty, friendship, adolescence, separated parents, illnesses and so much more, in a mann

I remember reading this when I was younger. As a kid I was obsessed with Jacqueline Wilson and her books, she was definitely my favourite author as a child - at 16 I still love her books, and kept them!

It was one summer when I went to the local library with my mum, I picked out 6 books - the maximum you could have at that age, and 'The Cat Mummy' was one of them. That same night I started reading it. Lights turned off, hiding under my quilt with a torch, it was fantastic. I remember not putting

What a brilliant little story. I really felt for the lead character and how she wanted to keep her cat for always. As a cat owner myself i could really relate to her. Infact while i was reading this story i found myself reaching for my Molly to fuss her as i know she wont always be around.

I think this is one of the best stories for children to read if they own an animal. This is because it will help them through the loss of a pet or to get prepared for the loss of a pet. I love the way that Jaqu

This book is great! This little girl has a very, very old cat called Mabel. But at school she is learning about the egyptions and how to rap up a mummy. one day the little girl finds her cat dead in her closet! so she wants to rap him up as a mummy. The little girl didn't take out Mabel's organs (she thought that it would be too gross. wouldn't you?) THen when she came downstairs, her Grandmother smelled her, and asked her where she had been!!!! Then she got into trouble for wrapping up a dead c ...more

I spotted this little book in the charity box at the Coop and, feeling in the mood for something light, I made my donation and scurried home to enjoy it. It is an easy read, being a children's book it has to be, but the themes are quite deep and dark notwithstanding the funny parts. The author gets so well into Verity's character that you feel every emotion quite intensely. It would be a good book to introduce discussion themes of compassion, love, guilt and bereavement to a class or to a single ...more

Love the stories so much :)

Its about little girl named Verity, who has an old cat named Marble... and as the title said *The Cat Mummy.. after Marble died of his old age... she wanted to make Marble becomes a cat mummy.. and Marble would still look alive in the family's room... she loves Marble so much....

But what she did is wrong... :)

I think this book disturbed me the first time I read it, and in typical Jacqueline Wilson style the story is rather sad. One of my friends from school bought me this book for my 12th birthday, which I thought was a bit odd as it's clearly for a much younger child. Despite this, it's a fairly decent story and not the most depressing of Wilson's novels.

I've finished this book quickly. Its a children's book and its really easy to read. And another great thing is, this book contains illustrations drawn by Nick Sharatt. I like how she struggled and tried to fix her problem by herself, (even though in the end, her family found out about it). I like it a lot!

Cerita sedih tentang kehilangan seekor kucing yang mati. Verity tak mau kehilangan Mabel, kucing kesayangannya. Cerita bu guru Smith seputar sejarah kuno Mesir dan dewa dewinya, termasuk dewi Kucing, memberinya ide tentang kucing mummy...

Lucu, naif, dan sedikit menyedihkan. My first encounter with Jacqueline Wilson :))
