4.5 stars.
Someone should inform Nicole Peeler that she simply cannot create female protagonists who are highly intelligent, self-sufficient, a little insecure, brave (but not stupidly rushing into things) and funny (but without the excessive sarcasm). We, humble UF addicts, are not used to that kind of thing. Someone should definitely inform her, but not me. I LOVED IT! Jane actually reminded me of... me! And my friends. She falls in high heels, she embarasses herself on dates, and when a fight More...

This is more like 2.5 stars verging on 3 but it didn't win me over as much as the 1st book.
I don't know if there are only 3 books contracted - maybe this is why it felt a bit forced (esp. The love triangle aspect) but it was only OK for me. It did get better at the end though. The last 20-30% of the book had me buying into it more (esp. Jane herself).

I'm already halfway through the third installment while writing this review so I'll just make some quick considerations and go back to Tempest's Legacy and my work in progress.
Strong points:
-This series is seriously addictive. Considering three books are already published and the fourth is coming out soon, I just could not let the next book be. I have to know what happens. Especially in the romance department, I think all readers who, like me, have gone through this series, at this point were j More...

Second in the Jane True comic urban fantasy series set in Rockabill, Maine.
My Take
Well, it was cute. Not as much fun as the first in this series, Tempest Rising , though. In the first story, Peeler struck out in a new direction with such promise and in Tracking the Tempest, that promise is faltering as it falls into cliché.
Too cute and too clever on Amy's part. I did enjoy her quick response to Iris' order of "hot man"! Peeler certainly has her fun poking at Boston drivers! I loved her Spaceball More...

Tracking the Tempest begins four months after the ending of Tempest Rising. Jane is back in Rockabil and she is beginning to learn how to control how powers. She learns how to raise her shields but not without burning off one her eyebrows. Life has settled into a nice little routine. She works at the bookstore, takes care of her father, trains and goes on long weekend with her boyfriend Ryu the vampire. This is the happiest time in Jane's life and I suppose that should have been a warning that t More...

Today's book review is on Tracking the Tempest by Nicole Peeler
Tracking the Tempest is the second installment in Nicole Peeler's Jane True series, and pick's up four months after the ending of the first book.
This book had much of the very same as the last, Alfar involvement in harming halflings and humans, sex between Ryu and Jane, good guy vs. bad guy battles, and dare I say sexual tension between Jane and Anyan? Yes I said it.
I still enjoyed the book, even though some parts were more predic More...

Tracking the Tempest is the second novel about half-selkie Jane True by Nicole Peeler. In this novel, Jane is visiting her gorgeous boyfriend Ryu in Boston for Valentine's Day when they are attacked by another halfling. A hugely powerful half-ifrit who has left a path of dead bodies in his wake, Conleth looks to be hunting down Jane and won't let anything get in his way. Jane - flaunting her newly-trained supernatural powers - and Ryu are joined by a number of others, including Ryu's big rival, More...

This is the second book in The Jane True series, and I couldn't wait to get stuck into it. And, uh, that's exactly what I did. I spent most of yesterday reading it. It was a rainy day, and this wonderful book helped soothe the horrible weather away. I do believe it's now become one of my fave series.
Jane might be getting some personal lessons from Nell the very powerful gnome, and she's learning how to set up defensive shields as well as mage lights (though the latter's a little harder), but sh More...

After reading & loving the first volume of this series, I have to say that I was impatient to pick up the second volume. Now at long last it is in my hands... and I have to wait again for volume three.
Tracking the Tempest has Jane starting her education in the watery arts. Her teachers are the mysterious & hot Anyan as well as the wizened & no less mysterious Nell. When her new boyfriend Ryu asks her to come down to visit him in Boston for Valentine's Day, Jane assumes that her weeke More...

This is the second of the Jane True novels, this time she time she leaves Rockabill Maine to spend a Valentine weekend with her vampire boyfriend Ryu & becomes quickly embroiled in another serial murder investigation that points to a powerful ilfrit halfling. Jane is convinced that Jarl (adviser to the supernatural king & Queen)& is part of the conspiracy but she just can't make the connection & when his lackeys come down to supposedly 'aid' the investigation, the murders & t More...

I bought Tracking the Tempest because I loved the first book in the series, and I knew Jane True was going to kick ass in the second installment. Nicole Peeler has created a character that is endearing, quirky, compassionate, and courageous. In many ways, Jane is not the typical heroine. She loves her small town and the roots she's put down there. Her friends and family mean everything to her. She doesn't feel trapped or as if she's missing something by living where she does...it's her comfort z More...

This book starts off shortly after the end of Tempest Rising, book one of the series. Jane is training with Nell (a gnome) and Trill (a kelpie), but having a hard time getting a handle on her powers. But she is making progress, as she still has both eyebrows!

Tracking the Tempest is a fun fast-paced adventure that rarely slows down once the story gets moving. Jane is delightful protagonist who reminds me of Sookie from Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire books. She is an average girl who suddenly finds herself a part of a world she never new existed, and now has to do her best to straddle the two worlds while developing her own magical skills. Jane is a funny, down to earth heroine who readers will enjoy spending time with. There are also plenty of i More...

Definitely a 4. Maybe even a little more.
Much of what I think has already been said by Maja in her review, so I'll just add to that.
This book is way better than the first, there's a clearer plot and better reasons for Jane to be involved in the case, more action and a healthy reduction of the amount of smut. But better than all this are the characters. It's all about them and they've grown on me by being consistent with their personalities, even with that means running for the woods instead of h More...

This is the second book in the Jane True series with 6 books currently on contract. The third book, Tempest Legacy, comes out in Jan 2011. I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first one, Tempest Rising.
This book picks up a few months after the first one leaves off. Jane is with Nell getting lessons on how to use her supernatural powers as a selkie. Then Ryu whisks Jane back to his home town of Boston for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend. Unfortunately things don't go as planned. Peop More...

Tracking the tempest is the second book in the Jane True series, this story takes place four months after the first book; Tempest rising.
This book has action, love and friendship but it did take a while for me and my human to get into the story as I did feel it drag a little bit in the middle while the investigating part was being played out. Although it took a while to get involved in the story there were some huge revelations and changes to the main character Jane and more insight given to the More...

This is book 2 in the Jane True series and I really enjoyed this book.
You see how much Jane cares for Ryu and how much he cares for her. I believe that he does care for her deeply, but he just doesn't necessarily see all of Jane and all of who she really is. Anywho, about the story line....there is some crazy fire person burning people to a crisp and the dude starts going after Jane. There is this group of 5 "bad" people that Jarl sent to be part of the investigation...and Ryu is way too politic More...

After the dustup at the Compound Jane has gone home to Rockabil and Rhu has gone home to Boston after dealing with the aftermath of all the drama. Rhu have visited each other, meeting at hotels every couple weeks for months now. Rhu finally convinces Jane to come visit him for a long Valentines day weekend. They go out for a romantic after dinner walk where they are attacked. Dealing with the attack is Rhu and his whole team of other 'others'. Jane is promptly healed and sent home to avoid a kil More...

Best Line:
"For a second, I considered throwing my leg over him and riding him like a pony."
This book in the series was much more action packed and more about Jane developing her powers. It was interesting to see her grow but I liked that she is keeping her "human" perspective.
I kind of had a feeling how things would go with Ryu. And...things with Anyan but that's pretty obvious. It will be interesting to see how things go. I got a kick out of all of Ryu's team ~ especially Julian. He was very More...

Tracking the Tempest was another good read by Nicole Peeler. The story begins a month after the problems Jane and her lover, Ryu encounter in his homeworld. This time Ryu is attempting to become closer to Jane and is pushing towards a commitment. Jane continue her training with Nell and is slowly making headway. During a Valentine's Day weekend visit, Jane and Ryu are attacked by a halfling named Conleth. Conleth is a fire throwing halfling and grew up in a laboratory where he was experimented u More...

I definitely didn’t like this one as much as the first and for one reason and one reason alone: the romance. Or whatever you want to call it. The drama between Jane and Ryu encompassed almost the entire novel and I thought it was a bit much.
Ryu second-guessing Jane and treating her like a child and just being an all-around prick was driving me NUTS. I haven’t cared for Ryu from the very beginning, he’s too cocky, he doesn’t seem to really care about Jane (although vice versa too.. Jane doesn’t a More...

Jane has been doing some training and can now raise a pretty good shield. Valentine's Day is approaching so she travels up to Boston to spend some time with Ryu. Unfortunately they get interrupted by someone hurling fire balls at them.
I think this one has a stronger storyline then the first book. There is more of a mystery and more running around trying to solve the crime. However the sexual dialogue is so cringe worthy I had to put down the book and do some housework. And I hate house work. Se More...

It's a soft 4 stars. It's terrific for what it is, which is a smart and funny but not too serious adventure/romance. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining. Jane's commentary occasionally walks the line between chick-lit humor and annoying, but I think it mostly stays on the humor side of the line. I'm enjoying Jane's personal growth and gumption, although Dr. Peeler got a tiny bit lecture-y near the end.
But poor Jane obviously has no idea that she's starring in a series of novels, or she'd ha More...

I read the first book in the series quite awhile ago and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Tracking the Tempest is no different. I really like the world that Nicole Peeler has created. It's very fresh within the supernatural realm. A different take on shifters and vampires, etc.
Tracking the Tempest picks up a couple of months after Tempest Rising. Jane is working hard to get stronger and better with her skills. She's back in Rockabill and Ryu is back in Boston investigating. While they do More...

This is the second book in the Jane True series, and it was better than the first one. I'm now very intrigued to see where this series goes. Jane is half supe/half human, though she's only know about the supe world for a few months. Her vampire detective boyfriend lives in Boston and she lives in Maine, so they've been dating long distance. He invites her to Boston for Valentine's weekend, but it turns bad when a half-supe villian targets them. She goes home, but the villian follows her, forcing More...

I seriously love this series. Jane isn't a super kick butt heroine, but she's working on it. Ryu is so yummy, but Anyan is the better catch in my opinion. He is hot, strong, more mature, and lives the way that Jane does. She is a simple girl, from the country, family and friends are important to her. I get that same vibe from Anyan, and although Ryu claims to love Jane, I think she is more convenient than anything. I had such mixed feelings about Conleth. He was running around killing everyone, More...

Review coming soonTracking The Tempest is the second book in Nicole Peeler’s Jane True series, where we follow Jane who found out in the first novel that she is part selkie & part human.
Jane is still coming to terms with it & being trained in her defense shields & her offense. She’s also a little over 3 months into a long distance relationship with Ryu (babohan sith/vampire) & Ryu is starting to put pressure on Jane to take the relationship to the next level, which would turn her More...
