I first knew about Chris Brogan last year when someone retweeted about Chris shaving his head for charity. Someone new to twitter back then, I thought to myself, this guy is an interesting character to follow. Little did I know about this gregarious individual (back then) and how he ranks in the top list of marketing guru’s (with Seth Godin as God of marketing).

Being on social media and all, this non-fiction piece is written slightly tangentially (almost as if the author had just pulled together dozens of their blogs!) and probably almost works better as a reference book – i.e. look up the chapter you are interested in and just read that.

While I did enjoy the book, and found some parts to be informing, I feel like Social Media 101 is not entirely user friendly. Being computer savy but not expert, I often found myself floundering when More...

There's so much valuable information in this book that it's kind of scary. I know a great deal about social media and Web 2.0 sites and, I must admit, I broke out the pen many times to scribble things down.

There's a "call to action" type style in the book that makes it anything but dry. I kind of agree with the other reviewer that it's not organized like a traditional book, but I knew that going in. Also, I'd argue that that very style makes it much easier to reference on t More...

In Social Media 101, Chris Brogan takes us for a deep dive into the concept and mechanics of putting together a strategic social media campaign for our personal brand or business. Brogan easy writing style and attention to the important details makes this book a must have for any newcomer in the social media arena. It will also make a great reference for future knowledge due to the layout of the books table of contents and index. Great job Chris Brogan.

Author Chris Brogan has a wonderful, personable, friendly style of writing that makes buddies of his readers within a few pages of starting one of his books. This book, a primer -- as the title indicates -- in how businesses can use social media for fun and profit, is no exception. Clear, approachable, and full of useful hints and tips, this book will be great for the business person who doesn't know much about social media and wants to get up to speed before doing something irrevocable.

I had hoped that this title would provide new, valuable insights into making Social Media work for businesses, while building upon the knowledge I already know. Sadly, it did basically the opposite. Another huge detractor was its organization, or lack thereof.

That said, I did get one or two ideas, but unless you've been living under a rock for the past five years and don't know the basics of Social Media, then it really isn't for you.

I bought this book to help me come up with some ideas on how to present to a group of coworkers the topic of Social Media. Thinking that I already had enough basis for a presentation, I felt this book went above my personal expectations. Even from the beginning I thought this book seemed to be more on my level than an amateur introduction. I think this book would be better renamed as Social Media 201.

Chris Brogan is a social media maven and definitely knows what he is talking about, but he is a much better blogger than book-writer. This "book" is broken up into miniscule chapters and contains tons of references to blog post by other social media experts and marketing pros. This is distracting and he does a poor job explaining what these articles actually say, but expects you to go read each one (kind of hard when reading a printed book).

His tips are helpful but his writin More...

Like Brogan says himself, you can read all of the same on his website. It's nice to have it in a firm form. I think the biggest positive factor is the name and link-dropping he does.

This is a refreshingly good book written by someone that can write, a rare thing in geekdom

Loads of great ideas I Am going to steal

Basically comes down to one or two main points social media is a more honest and engaging form of advertising plus how do you order your life to fit to the posting schedule

Get it I think it is the sort of book you can delve back into for years and I see this sharing stuff over the web through databases as a bit like mix tapes and a good More...

what a charlatan! Worthless info 101, and padded at that. Did I say that it's ungrammatical and barely literate?

It's a great beginning social media book. Of course, as with all books, the information dates fairly quickly but it's still a good beginners guide to blogging and basic social media.

Just finished reading this book last night. I will be reading it again.

Chris Brogan does a great job at explaining Social Media and how to apply it to your buisness to help build relations with your customers, networks, and readers.

If you are thinking about getting into the world of social media for fun, to help build traffic to your blog, or get more clients from social media then you should read this book so you can start a game plan and stay on track with it.

I'm a huge fan of Chris's blog. He is always sharing ideas and suggestions. This book is a collection of some of his blog entries. If you are new to social media this is a must read book. It will provide you with steps on how to get started. If you have been active for a while, this is a great refresher.

This book was basically a giant list of how-tos and resources. Fantastic, in my opinion, because there wasn't a lot of extra "stuff" to get in the way. Pure signal, no noise. Awesome!
