Volume 2 is nowhere near as good as Volume 1 of the Omnibus. Not only did they make the bizarre choice of skipping around to comics from Seasons 2 and 3 in addition to pre-season 1 stuff (when Volume 1 was all pre-series, and I do enjoy a nice chronological order).

There are 7 comics in this omnibus. Quick reviews of all:

1. Angels We Have Seen On High: The art on this one is quirky, but I kinda liked it. Plot was ok, and the writers make the narrative choice to include More...

This collection I found myself less drawn to for a number of reasons. Because the first Omnibus takes place before cannon Buffy, these was no sense of ‘well when did this happen?’, ‘what season are we in?’ which was nice because it didn’t conflict with the show we, the loyal fans, are already familiar with.

The stories that take place in this second collection also felt more unlikely, with the Scooby Gang fighting ancient forces I found unlikely would emigrate to Sunnydale… How exact More...

What a disappointment this was, especially compared with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus Vol. 1. In this volume, the stories were weak and mostly completely uninteresting, the humor was almost nonexistent, and the characters were sometimes written out of character. Plus, some of the art was odd, some was kinda ugly, and some was just terrible. I wasn't confused by the jumping around--or skipping ahead--in the timeline, since it was explained in the introduction by Scott Allie, but I can't say i More...

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', is a show that is near and dear to my heart. I grew up watching it, and have become to attached to the "Buffyverse" that even I still don't want to believe that show is over. That being said, when Dark Horse announced that they would be compiling all the original Buffy comics into volumes, and putting them in order from before Buffy came to Sunnydale, and leading up to the season nine comics, I was sold. You really don't have to say much to get me to buy More...

Disappointing follow-up to the first volume. A lot of the art turned me off, looking like generic superhero stuff. I especially hate it when the characters look interchangeable, as in the last story, The Dust Waltz. Willow should be distinguishable from Cordelia. I did enjoy Ring of Fire, as I do anything that highlights Giles. Mmm, Giles!

Capturing events from prior to season one through season three, we see Buffy find a new normal after her first experiences as a slayer, and her move from L.A. to Sunnydale, CA. The most interesting story is "A Stake Through The Heart," a mini-series chronicling the difficulty experienced by the Summers women through Joyce's divorce. With her newfound slayer strength, Buffy resists temptation for revenge, and the sad desperation which takes hold of her through several romantic relations More...

because I am a sucker.

MacGuffins was completely unnecessary. As was the Dust Waltz. It was hard to read them both, because the forced "teenage" conversations were contrived and ill-timed, trying way too hard to be hip or quick like the show. Dust Waltz was also drawn to make each female look alike, all with enormous breasts and barbie waists. Xander with his shirt ripped off (a la romance paperback cover) was both hysterical and disheartening.

"A Stake to More...

Volume 2 - more Buffy - please note - this volume will be challenging to follow at points unless you are aware of the story line in the Buffy saga - it doesn't fit in so well as part of the previous volume - rather instead you are treated to many different writers taking a stab at the slayer space. These are drawn in a variety of ways and generally fun and original art pieces to themselves - mosly the stories are vinettes - tantalizers betweeen the episodes of the tv series - read all at once it More...

Loved being able to spend time with old friends, especially a visit from Kendra who was one of my favorite characters on the show. I'm not a fan of Jeff Matsuda's artistic style on the first story "angels we have seen on high" and I don't agree with the decision to include Dawn in these early stories - taken in the light of "this is how Buffy remembered it" rather than "this is how it happened," it makes sense and it works, but I still would have preferred no Dawn. I personally liked volume 1 more than this volume, but it was still a good addition to the Buffy-verse.
This volume focused on stories that would be happening before the first season, all the way through the third season. I loved that James Marsters wrote one of the comics in this volume, and that he wrote about Dru and Spike.
My one main issue is that this volume spans a large amount of time and it was hard to keep up at times.
Overall I liked it, and I am ready for volume 3.

Enjoyed the book overall, but to be honest its not exactly great value for money, and a few of the stories sucked.
It did get off to a great start though with 'A Stake to the Heart', I absolutely loved this story and think it did an amazing job filling in the gaps from LA to Sunnydale. I can't believe Joyces line on page108. The rest of the stories were pretty okay, with the exception of MacGuffins, which is the most pointless story ever!
I don't really like that they jumped from pre-sun More...

The second volume were just ok. The order of the stories made me confused, at one time Angel were evil and the next he was good again. And I didn't like the small Dru and Spike outtakes.
It's nothing like the TV-series and I didn't found anything in common in this book, so I just gave it a 2 star rating because of the graphics.

I liked this one but not as much as Vol 1.

I liked most of the art. The only two that I didn't like much were Angels We Have Seen on High, I enjoyed the story just not the art and the last comic The Dust Waltz.

My favorite comics from this one were A Stake to the Heart, The Queen of Hearts, and Ring of Fire.

This one was interesting because it is supposed to go along with the TV series but it is a story that I have not heard before. Several of them in fact. The guilt that Buffy went through about her mom and dad. And also Dawn is there way before she was in the series. That was kind of a shocker.

Garish and glorius, these comics are often simple. always fun, and sometimes even getting away with a deeper meaning. These are the stories that happened on the days we weren't shown on TV. Various styles keep the look changing and some of it is often good.

This Buffy omnibus, checked out on a whim from the Rockville, MD library, was the perfect piece of fluff to fill the extraneous hours of a short trip. Buffy, in comic form, comes across tougher than the collected X-Men.

If ya look at it as a stand-alone thing and try not to mesh it with the actual TV show (i.e. look for where it fits) its not all that bad although the drawings of the characters needed some help at times.

This one was much better than vol. 1. What made it better is it gave a time line in the introduction so I knew where the stories fell as to what season it was from and which stories happened first. I know who the characters are now and the story lines are really good. The artwork is amazing. I really like these graphic novels.

This is maybe 3.5 stars but I rounded up because, Buffy. Felt very true to the series, with a lot of its humor. Uhh if you like Buffy you will probably like these comics?

Not my favorite read, but always nice to have some Buffy tales that are new to me. I really enjoyed "The Dust Waltz" story but the tale of Spike and Dru penned by James Marsters and Christopher Golden ("Paint the Town Red")felt underdeveloped and lack the quality I expected from these two. All in all, a decent read for any Buffy fan. Keep your eyes open for images and lines that do fit into the TV series perfectly.

Three stars might even be generous. Some of this stuff, just as with the first book, is okay, but it never rises higher than that. Much of the art is stupid. And the major problem with this book and the first is that people tend to focus on the wrong stuff. Who really cares that much about Spike and Drusilla? Goth nerds, that's who. And that's not me. Also, many of the artists insist on drawing Buffy in really unflattering jeans. I know she wore them for the first few years of the show, but give More...

Like the first omnibus, this book misses the charm and wit of the tv show. The stories are all okay, but none are stellar. I like this world enough to read more, but unless you are a fan these books don't have anything to offer.

Some of the older stuff in it didn't really hold up. Especially the 'Dust Waltz'. Rarely did the characters look like the characters, and the writing was pretty bad throughout the earlier comics. Things like the fact that the bad guys were all using the name 'Angel', when he'd only been using that name since the beginning of the Buffy series.

The bright spot of the books were the more recent stories of what happened right before Buffy came to Sunnydale, including the very different More...
