This is the third book in the Magic series. I read the first two (but you won’t see a review because I read them a while back and don’t remember what happened). Chloe is torn between the steadfast Kyle and her new found attraction for Ben, who makes her blood boil in ways Kyle never did. With a little of her own magic, she will test the waters and see if Ben is really the man she should be with. Chloe is walking a very fine line and is in for even more surprises when a few ghosts come to her for help, one being Ben's deceased daughter Mari, who refuses to cross to the other side.

As I read A Breath of Magic, I was on the fence about how I felt, especially in regards to Chloe. I was not a big fan of Chloe at first because through manipulation on her part to get what she wants, she uses some underhanded means. She is so stuck on what she thinks should be the perfect type of life, that she does some questionable actions. But then after a bit of insight on the person Chloe is, I came to the conclusion that Chloe is a very lonely woman even with all those people around her who love her. She tries to justify her actions because she doesn't know any better and really believes she is doing what is best for her.

Kyle comes across as a cold fish, whereas Ben is everything a woman would want in a man. Tracy Madison can sure write a hot love scene. The one where Chloe and Ben first become intimate was too good and one of the best I've read this year. But sex does not heal all wounds, and when Chloe is finally upfront with Ben about her magic and his ghostly daughter, he acts the way I expected him to. The majority of the time he was shaking is head, confused by what was happening to him because of Chloe, and as the reader I was right beside him, feeling the same way.

A Breath of Magic is quirky and a bit out there with a heroine you may end up wanting to ring her neck half the time because she doesn’t know when enough is enough. But still, I found myself very interested in seeing how she and Ben would make their relationship work and the mystery behind Mari and her death.

Tracy is a skilled storyteller and I had no problems whatsoever with her writing. I just wished that Chloe was a bit more likeable. If you are interested in reading something light and fluffy with some nice love scenes, try A Breath of Magic.(less)

I really like Tracy Madison's "magic" series and the 3rd book is no different. The story is fun with wonderful characters who you really become attached to. I love how Alice, Elizabeth and Verda play such big roles in this book so you get to stay in touch with characters who feel like they've become your friends.

Chloe and Ben's story is wonderful and there is a scene in this book that is so emotional it made me cry. That is something I can say does not happen to me often in the romances I read....more

I do think this book does stand alone however I wish I would have read the previous two books in the series for a better understanding of the relationships between the characters and their gypsy magic. That being said, I still found this book very enjoyable.

Chloe is ready to get married and settle down. She is looking for her happily ever after and believes it will be with her boyfriend Kyle who has commitment issues. She is so focused on finding her happily ever after that she is not above using a bit of gypsy magic to help the cause. She convinces her family member to bake up a magical cake that will lower Kyle’s fear of commitment so she can propose to him. But just when it seems Chloe is about to get all that she’s ever wanted, fate steps in and throws a few wrenches into the works.

A new man walks into Chloe’s life who rocks her world and makes her begin to doubt her commitment to her now fiancé. To further complicate things Chloe’s gypsy magic has finally begun to kick in and she can apparently bend the will of others to her own will. She eventually begins to wonder just how genuine her relationships are and just how much of it is a product of her use of magic and her new magical compulsion. Add to this a mysterious young woman who keeps dropping in on Chloe that no one else seems to see, she’s got much to work out before her dreams of a happily ever after are finally realized.

I’ve never been a fan of track-and-snare-your-man stories and wasn’t all that thrilled with Chloe’s behavior in the beginning. Her use of magic in her relationships seemed deceitful and put me off a bit. But somehow, before I knew it, Chloe began to grow on me and I found myself wanting to give her motherly advice and gently nudge her in the right direction. Although her methods seemed a bit misguided at times, Chloe’s heart was the right place and she just wanted happiness not only for herself but also for those around her, even going so far as to make a very personal sacrifice in the interest of making things right for those she loved. Chloe grows a great deal during the course of the story and evolves into a woman willing to sacrifice for those she loves.

Chloe is a lucky lady with the gentlemen in her life. Although her use of magic in the manipulation of her romantic life certainly strained her relationships, her gentlemen seemed remarkably forgiving and generally tolerant of antics. Chloe manages to charm her way in and out of her romantic entanglements somewhat awkwardly yet with a sweetness that will make you want to scold her then hug her.

A Breath Of Magic is a wonderfully romantic story full of ups and downs and emotional twists. If you’re looking for a feel good romance with a happily ever after for all, then A Breath of Magic is a must read.

Trouble Number One: Chloe discovers quickly that Ben is her fated mate. Alice, her cousin and best friend paints the future and she has a portrait of Chloe and Ben at the their wedding day. Not only does Chloe marvel at the happiness she views in her own painted face, she also falls directly into the painting feeling emotionally the powerful love that she has for Ben. Grasping onto this fate with wild abandon and a healthy does of desperation, Chloe is soon thoughtlessly trampling a few hearts and toes to get to her final destination.

Trouble Number Two: Ben is Chloe's complete opposite. He's a man of black and white while Chloe's new age spirituality allows her to view the world in a million shades of grey. He's all about numbers which have added up nicely for him in the form of a big beautiful home while Chloe is still clipping coupons and lives in a tiny apartment that can barely be dubbed livable. Finally, Chloe is recently being visited by ghosts and has also has come into her magic while Ben doesn't and can't and won't...

Trouble Number Three: Ben has a lot of emotional baggage. Without Chloe's magical gift to impart her will on others, he may never have even agreed to go out with her. This bit of "urging" on Chloe's part has her "pushing" Ben over and over again - all of which are little things but due to her need for him and their future that is fated, Chloe can't subdue her desperate emotions which consequently drive her magic. Frighteningly enough, there's a crazy ease with which Chloe can use her magic. To will someone to do what you want is a dangerous gift if used without a strong personal will power of one's own. With Chloe's desperation driving her magic, she's not stopping at all to think about the consequences but rather forges ahead while leaving a burning wake behind her. But the blaze catches up with her soon enough.

All of Chloe's troubles lead her to face each one of the four fates that Alice has painted and while only one leads to ultimate happiness, one also reveals the possibility of Chloe losing everything including her new family. If she doesn't control her emotions and the magic with she wields thoughtlessly over the will of others, Chloe will lose everything she holds dear. She must cease her crazed desperation for a happily forever after and learn to appreciate what she has already which is the love of a wonderful family. Chloe must first discover who she is, embrace her findings and live life. Only then will she be able to claim Ben as hers.

My Thoughts:

A BREATH OF MAGIC was exactly that, a breath of magic - or rather a book of magic. Told in first person, this is Chloe's story through and through about her growth from a terribly uncertain woman to one that fights adversities of her own making to eventually become a woman strong of heart and soul. A better person really.

Initially, I wasn't a fan of Chloe at all. She reeked horribly of desperation and the journey via her POV was often cloying but it soon became apparent that Chloe's character growth was going to be intense and eventually I learned to just hang on for what proved to be one wild ride. While desperate and a bit frantic, Chloe quickly turned endearing with her openness to others, her unfailing love for those that need help as well as her determination to bring light to Ben's darkened existence. In addition, her magic proved to be incredibly layered and really reflected who she was as a person. Her desperation was evident in her power to change another's will. Her tenacious will to help others magically manifested in her ability to help those that were trapped within the inbetween. For me, this is what made this paranormal unique. One's gifts didn't rest solely with the physical but was instead completely character and emotionally driven.

A BREATH OF MAGIC is a quirky and fun romance, one that conjures laughter and tears leaving you a true fan of the author. Be prepared to simultaneously wish to both strangle and hug Chloe while she makes many mistakes as well as good decisions. All in all this is a story about a woman for women and it can't get much better then that.

Oh yeah, the hero is totally hot too. I specifically chose not to say too much about Ben because he's a magic all unto himself. Enjoy!(less)

Truly- if you enjoyed the tv show Charmed U will love this series.... it's magic and romance without the demons...

In this book Chole (Alice's best friend) finds out she is cousin to Alice and Elizabeth and the magic is passed on to her. Her's manifests itself as being able to will people to do what she wants BUT ALSO she can see and speak to ghosts....

This was the last book I completed in 2010!

Finally, finally, finally got to this book. 1 year (according to goodreads) after I read book #2 in the series, so there's been a bit of a gap. Good thing, for the most part, these books act as stand alones that happen to be apart of a series.

I really liked the story here. Didn't like ther heroine, but she did grow on me as the book went on. But I enjoyed the too-sexy-to-be-true-hero.

In Madison's paranormal romance novel, Chloe Nichols is holding her breath. Family and happiness have always been just out of her reach and a bubble her current boyfriend seems determined to break. Kyle has repeatedly shot down her hopes of that happily-ever-after dream of hers. But Gypsy magic has a way of pushing someone in the right direction at the right time. Absolutely fantastic. My favorite of the three books in the series so far. I can't wait to see if there are more. This one was just as funny and quirky, but there was a point when it brought me to tears as well. Wonderfully written with characters you can't help but love and witty dialogue that will keep you turning the pages well into the night.

Light reading, kinda of a Charmed vibe to it. I've read the other two books, though I think I liked the first one and have been disappointed since.

Had a hard time connecting to the heroine in this and the hero is completely insubstantial.

Not offensive, not compelling, just a meh kind of book.

It was good, but it wasn't as good as the others in this series I've read. Maybe because I'm reading them out of order. I didn't care that much for the ending, it just seemed a little too easy for Chloe to make her decision about her magic. The HEA was great though, so I did enjoy the story. Still have yet to read Alice's story, but hopefully soon.

The first book was pretty good, the second was ok. This one was so boring to me I had to quickly skim it just to finish it. I found Chloe to be extremely whiney and annoying. I'm not going to even bother with the fourth book in this series.

I really liked the book. There were a few pages in the middle (roughly page 149 on for a few pages)that had a very explicit sex scene that was not needed. If you skip those few pages the story is very cute and a good romantic story.
