Sweet, tormented Owen, I loved him from the very start. And for Owen’s kind deeds he is shunned, called unclean and lives a lonely existence with only goats and a fiddle for company. The only two people who are civil to him are Doctor Andras Maddock and his ward Carys who stops by often for goat milk and doesn’t seem to give a damn about what people say. Owen has had a secret crush on the handsome doctor forever and never in his wildest dreams expected to act upon it. When he finds his attraction returned, well, let’s just say things heat up and years of pent up longing are released.

Andras is a vampire in possession of a magical sword that another clan of vampires will do anything to possess. When they get wind that he’s been spending a little too much time with Owen they realize they have the perfect weapon to wield against him. What follows is an action packed smack-down of evil creatures, selfish small-minded towns-peopl and a rough road to happiness for the lovely Andras and Owen.

I was enchanted by the opening of this story. Longing from afar and secret crushes along with a nice slow burn of attraction sucks me in every time and the atmosphere was fab and very well done. But if I’m being completely honest, I have to admit that I really, truly wish the story had stayed focused on Owen and Andras’s new feelings as a couple and their banter as they formed a relationship because when the focus switched to more of a standard good vs. baddies my interest began to wane. But that’s my personal bias and I freely admit it. I’m not a huge danger and action kind of girl and go for the more intimate character based reads. I know I’m probably in the minority based on the explosion of danger based paranormal romances.

I enjoyed the heat between Andras and Owen and found much of the writing intoxicating but would’ve enjoyed spending more time watching Andras and Owen fall in love and getting to know sarcastic and independent Carys better (loved what I saw of her) before all of the bloodshed began. But that’s me, I’m greedy like that. For the most part, this was a haunting, hypnotic and sexy little story and a good way to while away a few hours.

I'm always on the lookout for good paranormal m/m reads, and this one fit the bill perfectly. You can't help but fall for Owen, the sin eater, and want to see him find some happiness in his lonely life. It was heartbreaking to read about how the community would use him for his services as a sin eater and then discard him without a thought. I hope the author will revisit Owen and Andras in a future title.

The Sin Eater “Owen” is a lonely lad not fit to live within the village of his people, or even to sleep in a household because of his profession of being a sin eater no matter that the town’s people call upon him to take the burden of their love ones sins from them before they pass away in order for them to move on to heaven. He has one desire however and that is to have a normal relationship with someone he desires, and that someone so happens to be the towns doctor “Andras”.

Andras, the towns doctor has a secret of his own, he has wanted Owen since he first laid eyes on him and for years he has kept his secret of being a vampire from the town. One way he has kept his secret is he doesn’t consume human blood and only feeds off animals and another is because of a magical sword that Dragan and his vicious kind want, a magical sword that when carried at his side allows him to walk during daylight therefore keeping his vampire state a secret.

However, circumstances within the town bring about too many deaths from the otherworldly creatures and Andras secret is short lived when the tragedy brings him closer to Owen in a fight to save his life.

The story is full of action and drama of finger pointing from the superstitious beliefs that will keep you glued to the pages as Andras fights Dagan (Evil blood thirsty vampire) to save Owen and keeps the vampires and underworld lore from gaining the sword. And if that wasn’t magical enough, Owen has powers he didn’t even realize he had when he called forth the sins of all the were-wolves who were chasing them, causing them to turn and retreat.

The connection between Owen and Andras is hypnotizing and seductively passionate as their erotic scenes are lustful and gently played out while Owen is new and inexperienced to the male/male sexual interactions. After all the drama is over and Owen learns how he must live with his new affliction of being a vampire along with being a sin eater, Andras and Owen are able now to find a life time of happiness together making it the perfect HEA.

Their love story is uncomplicated and full of life. They don’t play games with one another and act on their desires almost immediately in the book (although it has been about 5 years of backstory for the two of them.) Their union does not disappoint. Their love making is HOT and full of beautiful emotions that pulled on my heart strings. There is detailed m/m erotic sex, so if you are at all leery of m/m romance, you may want to steer clear. However, I found the romance so beautiful, it didn’t matter to me what their sexual preferences were.

But, this story does not end with the union of Owen and Andras. Enter Dagan, long tooth (vampire) and bad guy extraordinaire. His father was slain by Andras and now Dagan wants revenge - as well as the magical sword which Andras holds. In order to defeat Andras, Dagan discovers the physician’s weakness: Owen. Dagan uses Owen in his attempts to bring down Andras. Yet Dagan is also drawn to beautiful Owen, and I wondered: is there more to this simple man than meets the eye?

The Sin Eater’s Prince takes place in old-Wales and the mythology is slightly different that the “typical” vampire romance. The vamps are not the good guys and there is no hot and heavy blood-sucking fantasies. Andras must fight his dark side continuously. Ms. Diablo incorporates various Welsh tales and traditions, which gives it a darker undertone and that “old world” vibe.

In addition, we meet a handful of supporting characters that fill out the story. I enjoyed kind-hearted Carys, and hope that we may see a future where she finds a lovely man to warm her heart.

The only downside to this tale was the ease at which Dagan and his clan was brought down. There was a lot of build-up and it seemed a bit too easy or too quick for my taste. In addition, I was left wondering about the mysterious werewolves, the evil dragon lord, Draig, and a few other things.

Those unanswered questions coupled with the open-ended, vision-of-the-future epilogue, have my interest piqued for a second book. With Owen was just learning of his true nature and potential, I sure hope Ms. Diablo follows up on this delightful tale. The Sin Eater’s Prince is an enjoyable read that I definitely recommend.

Unfortunately it is a negative reaction to the poor writing, badly clichéd plot, flat characters that are seriously too stupid to live, and several moments where I literally threw the book. Unfortunately it is a negative reaction to the poor writing, badly clichéd plot, flat characters that are seriously too stupid to live, and several moments where I literally threw the book. The biggest crime in my opinion is that the characters always took the weak, stupid way out to prolong the drama instead of using intelligence and ingenuity to solve problems. However this is just my opinion and apparently others enjoy this book and there is a pretty lushly descriptive setting employed. Other than that, I recommend skipping this offering.

The story is about paranormal being, Owen Rhys, who absorbs the sins of the dead and dying so they can go to heaven in peace. Hated and feared by his small town village, Owen is the quintessential outsider. Not helping matters is his attraction to the local doctor, Andras Maddock, who just happens to be a vampire. Andras saves Owen from a vampire attack by using a special sword one night which leads to a revenge plot against them by rival vampires. These rival vampires set the local town against Owen and Andras must race to save Owen against first the town then the other vampires.

The plot is heavily contrived as it relies on stupid actions and coincidences to carry the plotline forward. Part of this problem is that the paranormal aspects are ill described. The story seems to rely on exaggerations instead of subtly, which unfortunately don’t always work very well. The evil vampires are the oldest, most powerful in the universe – and described exactly like that – while they can read minds, alter time, walk invisibly, and turn into mythical creatures. Yet for all their phenomenal cosmic power, they persist on a somewhat ridiculous revenge scheme using Owen against Andras to get the historical, magic sword. It’s difficult to buy into the plot when these great creatures could end the problem anytime they wanted as dozens of uber powerful vampires would seem to be an adequate offensive against one man and a magical sword.

A similar issue arises when Owen is attacked by the world’s oldest and most powerful vampire and Andras manages to kill the vampire despite being a weakling half breed vampire. Supposedly Andras refuses to drink human blood which robs him of his natural vampire power. The explanation is that the magical sword is enough to aid Andras yet there are several scenes later when Andras has longer sword fights with less powerful vampires, barely winning. This particular exaggerated fight scene also comes on the heels of a largely foreshadowing comment, which practically guarantees Owen will be attacked but of course Owen ignores the warning. This is the first of many too stupid to live moments for Owen making him a thoroughly unlikable and uninteresting character. However the plot itself relies heavily on Owen’s poor choices and drags the drama out even when common sense and intelligence would solve the problems.

The characterization of Owen is problematic because the story relies so heavily on him constantly getting into trouble. Owen has several –way too many– martyr moments where he takes it upon himself to die or sacrifice himself for others. The first is for his ridiculous small town, which doesn’t like him or care about him, but Owen’s non-existent self esteem is such that he decides to let them kill him anyway. Why he does this is pretty questionable and doesn’t help Owen’s characterization except to show he has no pride in himself whatsoever and no real intelligence either. He is a walking cliché that allows himself to be put into danger several times while offering himself up each time to an evil, lying, powerful vampire in a “deal.” These kinds of clichés frankly drove me crazy while reading. Whenever Owen has a chance to be cunning or intelligent or sly, he always picks the weak sacrificial answer. This also isn’t helped by his almost instant love and sexual relationship with Andras. There is some question about Andras bound to protect Owen but other than mentioned once, this is dropped and the two are instantly in love. Their depth of feeling and supposed intensity feels artificial and forced without the accompanying action and emotion to make their connection real.

None of the characters are well developed and tend to be stereotypes. From the very typical evil villains to the townsfolk, and even the one rare supporter, none of the cast stands out as unique and terribly interesting. The villains all make classic evil mistakes such as explaining their plan or falling in love with Owen for no real reason. This ties into the completely ridiculous ending that involves more paranormal creatures and contradicts itself. The spell placed on Owen suddenly goes away with no explanation and the affects – rather severe – totally ignored in a huge, superpower laced ending. The setting itself is very classic historical with a witch-hunt atmosphere while adding in a wealth of foreign terms. Some of the descriptions are lush and evocative but lumber under wordy and overblown prose. Often the writing tries too hard such as in these examples:

Owen Rhys felt the inexplicable portent in his marrow and wondered if prophesizing death was an inherent curse of being a sin eater.

He didn’t dwell on the thought for long. The magnificent view from his summit obliterated the dismal musings from his mind.

The prose and dialogue just attempts to be more wordy than necessary and doesn’t add any additional texture or depth. Instead this makes reading slightly laborious. Unfortunately this story just fails to deliver on any level. The characters are unattractive with too many classic cliché antics while the dialogue and prose tends to be clumsy. The weak characterization, improbable and ridiculous plot combines with an incomplete world building and elements that don’t make sense nor are explained to any satisfaction. Even the romance aspect fails with weak chemistry and characters that offer little to each other. The setting does have some nice authentic touches and comes across as dark, dreary, and gray. So that at least is successful but ultimately I can’t recommend this book.(less)

Owen having taken the oath to his father to become a Sin Eater and carry their legacy and Andras's oath to Owen's father for saving him in the Forrest all those years ago when left for dead..... to never take the blood of a human and to watch and care for Owen upon his death.Dagan is after Andras who holds a very important and deadly item in which he covets with his very life. Dagon is after the Prince of Wales sword which Andras posses, once they capture the sword their power will increase beyond imagination. The same sword that Andras killed his creator, Traherne with. The sword would hold the power to grant these vampires to walk in the daylight. Danger is all around them in this amazingly brilliant mystical tale. Not without humor, not sure if Keta created the character Carys for that purpose but I found so much humor in her personality. She is an orphan who was taken in by Andras upon the death of her parents, and she is a superstitions little thing. Her beauty unchallenged I delighted every time her presents came to the page. The banter although harmless and light between Owen teasing her and telling her of all the creatures he has spied and her gullibility put a smile to my face and lighten the dark story. She is a believer all things mystical and I just found her dialog appealing. What began as lustful longing blossomed into something quite beautiful as the relationship and love between Owen and Andras grew through every page. Owen asking Andras to turn him so he would be able to fight and protect him by his side against Dagan and his followers was heartwarming. What I liked most about this story was that the underlying love story was just that, love. And thank goodness Keta added a glossary at the end, I would have been a little lost if not! I wish more authors would do that!

Because of this position, he has been shunned by the local villagers his entire life. Yet to this reader, Owen is a near perfect male... simple, humble, giving, honorable, and of course, handsome.

Sadly, Owen has exactly two friends. First, Carys is a young girl who cares for Owen as a brother. She’s equally sweet and kind – very likeable – whose courage later in the book earns her my respect. And then there’s Andras, the town’s physician who has cared for Owen from afar. Andras has a secret that keeps him away from Owen – he’s a vampire who has been watching over him just as he pledged to Owen’s father before he passed away. Andras fights his dark side continuously to keep himself good. With such a deep sense of honor, Andras has kept himself apart from the man he desires so as not to turn him, thereby forcing him to live the life Andras himself has been forced to live. Owen, of course, is shocked then when Andras saves him from another vampire and admits he cares for him.

Their love story is so simple – pure and untarnished by the world. With years of history between them, it seems natural when they take the step to consummate their love. And, mm mmm, their consummation is hot while also being incredibly beautiful. The emotional connection warmed me – the fact that Owen could find acceptance through Andras was incredibly moving; and the vivid imagery Diablo presents gave this reader the shivers. The ultimate in romance played out as the men accepted their fate and came together.

Now, the story isn’t just about the two men falling in love (‘cause that would be boring). Here’s where the protagonist comes into play - Dagan, the evil vampire.

Astonising! I never knew what or Sin Eater was and up until now I've never even heard of one and thanks to Keta she brings one to light in this love story between a Sin Eater and a gorgeous vampire. A truly unique mix and I commend Keta for her creativity with this one.

The setting is an era unknown to me, but I picked up on the meaning of certain lingo quickly and I'm proud of myself for it.

Owen Rhys is what people call a Sin Eater. When people are on the brink of death they call him in to take their sins away so they can pass with a clean slate. For this he is shunned from society where people cross to the other side of the street and avoid eye contact. Needless to say he has very little contact with people which just breaks my heart. Andras is entranced with Owen. From the first time he laid eyes on him he was hooked. When Owen decides to make the trek home in the middle of the night, Andras gets the bad feeling and sets after him. Finally finding him in the forest, he sees that he is being attacked by a vampire. He does what any other person secretly in love with someone does, attack the thing as if his life depended on it. Even though the vampire is now slain, Andras knows that his son will soon come looking for his father and will attack if they don't leave the area.

Making it back to Owen's cabin, he asks Andras what he really is. Not wanting to lie, he tells him the truth, he is a long tooth, or vampire. Of course he isn't the traditional kind for he does not feed off humans but animals. After taking this all in, Owen is actually completely fine with everything. Actually, it's quite a turn on. Boy do those two burn up the sheets! The sexual energy is on the top of the charts. I am pretty sure anyone who reads this book will agree with me too. ;)

The story was written wonderfully. You can tell that Keta put in a lot of work researching that time period for this book from the dialect to what is traditional in the villages those days. I really enjoyed the connection that Owen and Andras had between the two of them. Oh and I loved that Keta threw in some tongue and cheek between the characters too. Some of the stuff that came out of Owen's mouth made me laugh. It was so refreshing! I am so happy I had the chance to read this wonderful book. Keta has a new fan. :)(less)

I mean, on one hand, it's got this cool mysticism about it. An almost folkloric-y feel about it. I liked the connections to Welsh folklore/mythology and how that tied into the story.

On the other, there are times when I feel as if I'm squinting suspiciously at it.

I rather liked the premise. The whole sin-eater thing is something I haven't really encountered before.

Ms. Diablo has never disappointed me on any of her reads and The Sin Eater's Prince has topped all of her preivously written works. Set among the ancient Welsh background and folklore, I was captured by the tale of Owen Rhys, reviled in his small village, despite the fact that he draws the sins of the living from their bodies before they meet their maker.

First and foremost i have to say this was my first M/M romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been planning to delve in this genre for a while and having the chance to start with one that has the paranormal involved as well, was just perfect.

Owen is deeply attracted to Andras, but never dreams the feelings would ever be returned. He finds that they are, just about the same time he finds out that his beloved doctor is a vampire. Andras was turned against his will and he protects an ancient sword that the bad-vamps want. Andras' enemies will do anything to get the sword, including using his love for Owen against him.

I liked both main characters. Owen is humble, brave and loyal. Andras is sexy and powerful. And he holds on to his innate goodness, despite the tempting lure to succumb to his baser instincts. I wanted things to work out for them. But I did have some problems with the book. While I appreciate the passion Andras and Owen have for one another, nothing ruins a m/m sex scene like a lack of lube. It completely takes me out of the moment and no matter how hot the scene gets, all I can think of is Damn, that's got to hurt.

My second issue comes with the overwhelming attraction that both our hero and villain have for Owen. Is this supernaturally based? If it were just Andras who was crazy-hot for the guy, that would be one thing. But the bad guy wants him just as bad after meeting him once. Why? --And later, we learn all kinds of new facts about Owen's powers, but to what end? And how would they be affected by what happens to him near the end of the book? Too many questions remain. Too many red herrings, perhaps.

I liked the premise and it did have some titillating moments, but it didn't quite live up to its potential. 3 stars.

A fast paced guilty pleasure that kept me reading and excited about what was coming next. I loved the historical setting coupled with the folklore and superstition spun into this erotic story. The voice and dialogue was consistent and nicely used which strengthened the quality and enjoyment. The supernatural is grounded and flows with the plot line. A sexy book great to snuggle up with at bedtime or read to relax on vacation. It is for mature adults and has some explicit sexual scenes.

Liked it, didn't love it. My first M/M paranormal book, was hoping for hot and steamy and got luke warm and moist. lol

The story was "ok". Would have liked more of an explanation about the "sin eaters", where they came from etc.

Was a short read as well. Only took me a few hours to read.
Was left w/ more questions and a kinda "ehhhh whatever" feeling.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Sin Eater's Prince. I'm a big fan of m/m romance and this didn't disappoint. Owen is the Sin Eater and Andras is a vampire. They both long for each other, but they try to resist the attraction. Things become complicated as evil vampires enter into the scene to take a magical sword that Andras has and threaten to destroy the village. The story held my interest and the m/m romance was awesome. I'll be reading more of her books.

The story was well developed and even rich. But the two main character bored me. The story was boring and the magnetic pull was missing.

By re-reading this story I still felt the same, the plot was at the start interesting, but true the middle it started to bore me.

The book's beginning was pretty interesting, and I almost liked it ... but in the end, I couldn't really get into the storyline. Mostly, I think it was because I couldn't understand (or didn't agree with) some of the choices the characters made.
