It took me a long time to track this one down, but it was definitely worth the hunt! The premise: a woman with a promising career in the music industry gives birth to twins, intending to go back to work after six weeks of maternity leave. But work isn’t as thrilling as she remembers, and she misses the babies. “..the fun seems to be all mixed up with the drudgery. What struck me the most about this book, which was originally published in 1950, was that the narrator / author sounds almost exactly like a Mommy Blogger of today. She describes the funny things small children do, the overwhelming work of caring for them, the pressure to be more gentle AND more authoritative (spanking) as a parent, and she laments the inevitable effect of new technology.
