I have not read any other books in the Poison Apple series, and at the very beginning I could tell I was coming into an ongoing story because the characters were mentioned in a kind of haphazard way, like I should have been familiar with them already. It doesn't keep you from reading them out of order, though, as this story focused mainly on two characters, Zoe and Mia.

Miss Fortune by Brandi Dougherty is a book in the Poison Apple series, a paranormal version of the Candy Apple series.
Zoe Coulter goes to a carnival with her friends, including her best friend, Mia Wang, and her crush, Noah. Eventually, Zoe gets to spend some time with Noah and is excited when Noah asks for her phone number. She thinks her night can’t get any better…and it doesn’t. It gets worse…way worse.
Zoe and Mia are the only ones from their group that is still in the carnival. When they st...more

Mia and Zoe are best friends who do it all together. They decide to attend a carnival with a group of friends, and before the night is over, one of their lives will be dramatically changed for the worst...that would be Zoe. You see, Zoe makes a mistake. While her friend Mia is having her fortune read, Zoe sort of/kind of makes fun of the fortune teller. Well, any good skeptic will know this is just not the best of plans, and soon Zoe finds that out, beginning the morning after the reading.

This is a really good book for teens, preteens, and 'tweens who like suspense. Like most stories, it starts off with the girls having a great time...and then it all goes bad for Zoe. I liked the fact that this book shows that young people can be intelligent and solve their own problems, if they put their minds to it, and that even though their life drama might seem hopeless, there is always a way to fix things if you are willing to put forth an effort. The book has a great plot, but it does drag...more

When Zoe and Mia visit a carnival, they have their fortunes told by a fortune teller named Serafina.
Mia's fortune is upbeat and promises a new journey. Zoe's, however, says that she will make a bad decision. Without realizing it, both girls end up with necklaces around their necks that are supposed to seal their fortune.
Neither girl thinks anything of it until creepy things begin to happen to Zoe. Her house catches fire, her bike spins out of control, and s...more

The Book "Miss Fortune" Was Very Interesting I Like And enjojed it in Every way. When I was Reading this It was Both Interesting And Mysterious. Why Did Weird things start Happening to Zoe after She got Her Fortunes Read at The Carnival? When I was Reading This book, At one Point Of time it got to this Really Interesting Part In which I didn't want to put It Down."Miss Fortune" Is My Favorite Book.
This was another really suspenseful book, but it wasn't as scary as The Dead End. The cursed necklace which has such a strong hold over Zoe is a powerful object, but I never lost hope that she and Mia would find a way to defeat it. I couldn't help but be reminded slightly of the horcrux Ron destroys in the final Harry Potter book, except the horcrux had more power over Ron's thoughts, while this necklace merely messed with Zoe's luck. While the necklace wreaks a lot of havoc in Zoe's life, by fa...more
I really enjoyed this book a lot. Two best friends Zoe and Mia get their fortunes read at a carnival, and the lady that read them gives Zoe a necklace to seal her fortune and as soon as Zoe puts it on unexplained things start to happen to her, i.e. her bike spins out of control, a fire starts in the oven when it is not on, and she begins to receive threatening texts and e-mails. All in all this book was really well written.
