I didn't know there was a sequel to "Faking It" and was thrilled to get another go at Andi and Devin. However, after reading some of the reviews before purchasing "Ordinary World", I was worried that I may not like it and may not like the direction the story would take. I knew it was going to be depressing with the death of Sam, of course. Some of the negative reviews be damned, I went for it...and I'm so glad I did!

OF COURSE, Andi was depressed, and negative, and all the things someone is afte...more

"Ordinary World" depicts well the crushing horror of losing a loved one in a tragic, senseless way. The story begins with Andi's paralyzing loss of her husband, Sam, on their fifth wedding anniversary and takes us on her harrowing journey through grief, loneliness, and heartbreak.

While the author's depiction of the grief process is quite vivid and believable, Andi's memories of Sam (we meet him only briefly at the beginning of Chapter 2) make him seem too good to be true. Most frustrating is tha...more

After finishing up Faking It, I was surprised to see a sequel! Although I was not thrilled with the ending of Faking It, when it was done, I really felt like it was over..."and they lived happily ever after"! Boy, was I wrong!!!

Lorello does a great job of pulling the reader right back in to the lives of these familiar characters as Andi deals with a devastating lose. I could not never have imagined the road that the author would take to get us to the end, but I loved the ride.

As someone that re...more

I was depressed and bored through the entire book. Yes it had a happy ending but too much trouble to get there.

STORY BRIEF:
This is the sequel to Faking It. They need to be read in order. In Faking It Andi became close friends with Devin a male escort who helped her get over her sexual inhibitions. She then met Sam and fell in love. She and Sam married. Five years later Sam is killed by a drunk driver which is where this story begins. For almost the entire book Andi is grieving the loss of Sam. This book kept coming up on my radar as I was researching my own books on Amazon.com. I bought Ordinary World after Amazon reminded me that I had bought FAKING IT when I was doing research online for my own novel, Seeing Julia. (The premise is similar: young widow finding her way back to life.)

Elisa Lorello is a prolific writer, deft at first person, and effectual at drawing readers into Andi's world as she struggles with her loss and rediscovers her life. As with Lorello's first novel, FAKING...more

I jumped straight into this book after finishing Fake it, which I read in one sitting. I, too, read this sequel in one sitting either. Two books in one day is UNHEARD of for me, so you must know how gripping these stories were for me! I'll admit, I loved Faking It more than this one - but was so happy to have the story continue for me.

This book was completely, completely different than the first. It was so emotional and so deep. I know many other reviewers felt the struggle between Andi and Dev...more

I thought the previous book, Faking It, was all right. It had its flaws, but I was interested enough in the sequel. I thought the sequel would be better because Andi had finally grown up. Sadly, she was the weakest part of the book. Again.

I didn't like her in Faking It because she was very insecure and that's the number 1 turnoff for the guy. But that was part of the plot so it made sense. I actually hated her more here because she was a such a bitch to Dev/David. I got that her husband died but...more

The story should have stopped at "Faking It." "Ordinary Life" turned out to be a disappointment. This book wasn't as good as "Faking It." Andi's story wasn't as strong or compelling and I didn't feel the need to know what happened as I did in her previous story.

"Faking It" was strong, it was different, and we learned about Andi. In "Ordinary World" I felt the storyline was more preachy and that Andi floundered. While I understand this novel contains a tragedy the previous novel didn't have, And...more

I really enjoyed this sequel, probably even more than the first book. Although it is sad, and sometimes frustrating, to see Andi take so long to pull her life back to "ordinary", I really like the way this author writes. It was realistic. I also LOVE that this is a book about a woman in her 40's and the subject matter is not about kids/empty nest/lack of kids/OMG did I make the biggest mistake of my life in not having kids, and that she is not obsessively career-focused. Too many books with wome...more

**Suggestion: do not read review if you like going into a book having absolutely NO any idea on what it's about. I tried to keep this as vague as possible, but it's quite difficult as the "twist" is known immediately in the story. I knew the twist (read a review, whoops) - but it didn't ruin anything for me.**

You have been warned.

"Ordinary World" is the follow-up to "Faking It", by Elisa Lorello. Andi is abruptly shaken with tragedy immediately in the story. The book follows her journey through...more

Sequel to Faking It. Here Andi has lost the love of her life - after struggling for so long to find peace with her self and her sexuality, a five-year marriage filled with happiness and contentment abruptly comes to an end with her husband's sudden death.

Trying to learn how to live with the loss is the whole point of this sequel. Characters transfer seamlessly to this book from Faking It. The story is not surprising - consistency was attained. Her internal struggles, though, cause her to make s...more

This book was a chore to read. After the all the fun of the first book, I expected this book to be similar, but it was full of crying and whining. I did not realize what I was getting myself into when I downloaded this on my kindle. Her husband dies and most of the book talks about how miserable she is and how much she misses him. It was boring and depressing. I kept reading because it seemed pretty obvious that she was going to have the character from the last book come back. I wanted their rel...more

This is the sequel to the book "Faking it" by the same author which is set a few years in the future (after the happily ever after).

I loved this book.

Although it still has the occasional fictional serendipitous encounters with long lost love and the commitment of a lover although you do everything to push them away... but still, the dialogue, the events, the feelings... all these things are very plausible and real that at certain times you believe its a friend telling you their story and openi...more

This is a follow-up to Faking It, focusing on the same characters of Andrea and Dev. While the first book had a more chick-lit premise, this one feels a bit more dramatic. I don't want to give away any of the plot, but for those unsatisfied with the ending of the first book, I think you'd like this one.

This book is definitely more heavy as it is dealing with some pretty heavy feelings. The pacing was still a bit off in that some parts were fast-paced while in other parts, it seems really slow an...more

Ok - So be prepared... the followup book to Faking it. I cried throught the first 7-10 chapters! No kidding! BUT - As emotionally/heart wrenching that this is...I ended up loving it. She really pulls through in the end, and I thought Elisa Lorello would let me down, but she didnt. I got a great ending, with great characters. And I think some people miss the author's point - that an "ordinary world" CAN BECOME and BE EXTRAORDINARY. It's all about NEW beginnings...NEW WORLDS. Coming OUT of the tra...more

The sequel to faking it. I bought it as I really liked Lorello's writing and was actually curious what more will happen in Andi and Devin's lives. A little disappointed as I got tired with Andi's grief and constant allusions to Sam. Devin deserved way more credit as he is a spectacular guy and he waited for her so long. Also Sam's character was shown to be larger than life. It didn't quite fit in with the rest of the characterization as I especially loved the fact that both the protagonists had...more

Very carefully thought-out story of someone who's just lost her very fabulous husband. The Devin/David guy was a bit of a mystery though (again, as in the previous book). There's one point when Andi asks him a question that I was also wondering and he says "if you have to ask you don't know me at all" (or something like that) and I was like, well! Maybe that will be the point, but no it wasn't, not really. The Andi character seemed to understand him at the end but I didn't as the reader. Anyway...more

I read many reviews of this book that were negative, however I totally disagree. I think Elisa Lorello is a fabulous, real author who makes us laugh, cry and feel from the top of our head to the tip of our toes. I think Ordinary Day was just another example of this. While the content was very different, the messages she provides are just as wonderful. Lorello shows us once again how strong we are, and takes us through another journey of Andi that was not always happy but was fulfilling and thoug...more

Im struggling to rate this. While I cried the whole way through it- It was devastating. And I obviously missed something in the very short epilogue. I obviously didnt get it. Because to me it was just cruel to say Dev was ordinary- he overcome some big shit to be the man he became- he was extraordinary in my opinion. Sam was fabulous- I totally agree, but the Peruvian lady probably got it right- dev will just look after her till its time to be with Sam eternally. Think I finished this book witho...more

When I started reading Faking It by Elisa Lorello I was so moved by her writing and the book itself that I knew right away that she would become one of my new favorite writers and that I would look forward to reading anything that she wrote. So when I found out that there was a continuation to Faking It, I immediately ran to purchase it for my Kindle without even reading any of the reviews, didn't need them, I would read it if Elisa Lorello wrote it; yeah, she's that good! But the fact that I ab...more

Gah....this book had me crying! It is the follow up book to Faking It. If you are going to read this book - you MUST read Faking It first to get to know the characters. Faking it introduced us to Andi, Dev/David and Sam. At the end of Faking it - Andi got her HEA. Fast word a few years down the road and we have Ordinary World.

In this Andi is struggling to come to terms with her loss. She's a grieving widow who just about throws all that she's worked for professionally away. One night she comes...more

I was quite looking forward to reading this one as I did enjoy Faking It.
However this wasnt nearly as good.
I really felt for Andi's character and putting myself in that situation I can only guess at how it would make me feel and at the beginning of the book it made for compelling reading.
But....it didnt last long, if you have read the first book then its obvious who she meets in Rome, but then a new relationship starts up with this person again.

I actually found Andi exhausting in this book, she...more

I like just about everyone else read Oridnary World after Faking it thinking it was a sequel which would follow basically the same storyline and character flow. Boy was I wrong. OW touches on new feelings and emotions which if we are lucky enough in life we will never have to tap into.

After losing her husband suddenly, Andi needs to focus on finding herself and creating a new life without Sam. Andi struggles every day with her grief and in the process pushes away the opportunity for new love wi...more

Jul 17, 2011 Lorelle rated it 4 of 5 stars Recommends it for: those who like to read very emotional books
Shelves: emotional
I would have given this book a 3 star rating, but it drew so much emotion out of me right until the last sentence, that it deserves four stars just for that. This book drove me crazy at times and I had to take breaks from it. At those times I found it to be depressing, and I really felt like I wanted to reach in and help the characters in this book. It had me reflecting about my own responses to hardship and how to change your outlook to one that is more positive and healthy overall.

Different ... I must always give Elisa Lorello's writing that title of different.

I was however left disappointed with the story line and development.

I honestly believed that better justice would have been done if the story was left at faking it.

I just feel as if the story has so much more to it in this ending that the last.

I really hated Sam (ok, hate is strong word but I really disliked him) in book one for getting in the way of Andi and David. Now I feel guilty.

I haven't cried this much while reading a book in probably ever. This was an incredibly sad and emotional jorney. I really hope the author didn't have to go through something like this because you could really feel the anguish Andi's character is feeling.

I know this was Andi's story but I felt like we should have gotten more David.

I felt really disappoi...more

I want more! I loved this book as much as the first one and I could barely put it down. I am so glad that Andi had found Devin/David again. I was a little scared about the ending, especially when left him again but the ending was great. I loved these two books and I can honestly say that they are my new favorite books. I would love to read more by this author and can't wait until she writes more novels! Highly recommended.

Was hoping this could continue with the comedic journey as the first of the series. This book delt with finding ways to cope with loosing a loved one. While I love her charcaters I had a hard time with Andi not being able to forgive David for who he was. Being able to forgive herself and her loved ones for their past mistakes. I actually began to route for David to move on rather then continue to get smacked down throughout the story.

Overall it was an ok read.

I thought this book was absolutely heartbreaking. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one but I still found this book very interesting. I felt so bad for David/Devin throughout the whole book. I though Andi was awful to him, I understand she was grieving but I just felt so bad that David had to suffer a lot too. However, in the end I like how she was a different person and she made up with David.
