Tod Parr’s The Earth Book , looks like it has been illustrated by kids, in a professional kind of way! Love the fact that the two children holding up the earth on the front cover are wearing odd shoes.
It is a colorful, simple, very kid-friendly and persuasive look at the reasons we look after the planet. We love trees because we “want the owls to have a place to live” is a compelling example. Some of the extrapolation, however, may be a little understated for the younger reader, for example, sh...more

This book is a great book to teach toddlers about Earth Day and taking care of the Earth. It uses simple text and bright child-like drawings to talk about all the big and little things that kids can do to help make a big difference in protecting the environment. It does it in positive terms that even young kids can relate to. An example, "I use both sides of the paper and bring my own bags to the market because.......I love trees and I want the owls to have a place to live." The people and anima...more
This is an awesome book to read with young children about the Earth! It gives concrete examples of how we can be careful in our homes and schools to save energy. It also has a bunch of cause and effect pieces, explaining how if we turn down the furnace, we can save energy and put on a sweater to stay warm instead. I thought this was a beautiful book to share with children and give them a clear idea of how we can save energy. It also has a fold out poster in the back pages which has a numbered li...more

This is an excellent book that teaches children how to take care of the Earth. I recommend this book for grades 2nd-4th. This book teaches students that, although they may be small, they can make a big difference by contributing to keeping the Earth healthy. Students learn about environmental protection, recycling and they learn how to create an eco-friendly environment. I've done many recycling projects in the past and I will definitely use this book as a reference in the future.
I read this to Ben without having looked through it before. I had to explain every other page. The book assumes you know the connection between specific conservation efforts and trees/animals/global warming/etc. It's fine, but a little over the head of the kind of little person who would read it. Also I don't want my kids feeling guilty and thinking a polar bear will die every time they turn on a light or something. It's a bit pushy for my taste.
This book is a perfect book to elaborate on ways to protect the environment. After having discussed the concept of why Earth needs to be treated with kindness, the students can use this book to illustrate how they will contribute to making the Earth a beautiful place now and in the future. The EARTH Book touches on many controversies going on world wide such as global warming and air pollution. After reading this story, it would be appropriate to inform the students of such controversies and exp...more
I enjoy that this book looks like it was drawn by children. The fact that it explains and says reason about conserving resources is even better. This is a wonderful to have for every kid, so they can learn from an early helping the earth is important. I love how colorful it is, really catches the eye and simply to understand. My son really enjoyed this book, had to read it to him twice the very same day my husband and I got it for him.
Another one of Todd Parr's excellent books to teach character. This book is great to teach citizenship, especially in the context of honoring Earth Day. Kirkus' Review states that "the structural format works well to bring complex issues such as global warming into a simple context that kids can connect with." Although the language is simple, the issues are complex so I would use this well any grade, K-5!
I thought this was a really cute book as well. It bring science into the classroom in a little bit different way though. It talks about different ways to save energy and not waste different things like food and water. I think this would be a good introduction for going green and could start kids in an activity to think about the planet and all the damage that needs to be reduced.
Great book with bright and colorful pictures and a good message to children. It's an excellent book about simple ways kids can make a difference on the earth such as, using both sides of the paper and reusing bags. This story would be perfect for children 5-8. It could even be useful for adults to read to remind them of simple ways to help the environment.
Very simple environmental/conservation messages are offered (shut the refrigerator door, don't litter) to a youthful audience.
The illustrations are atrocious, but the message is good. Read this one to very young children who can absorb the very simple environmental tips without being distracted by the scribbling that passes for artwork.

This is a great book. It is a great tool to teach students the importance of recycling. I love Parr's style of writing. The illustrations were great also. I will use this book for a science lesson. It is an easy read for young students. Students can understand how important it is to use our resources wisely and save the Earth.
Todd Parr is a great author. I love his style of writing and his engaging illustrations. I used this book for a science lesson and it was very effective. It is an easy read for young studnets so that they can understand how important it is to use our resources wisely and reserve what to can in order to save the Earth.
This is a great book for young children to start learning about recycling. Parr writes in a way that is fun for children to read. The illustrations are bright and colorful. This book will pull kids right in. Classrooms can start a recycling project within their class. This will give the children a chance to be hands on and see things in action.

I love Todd Parr and the children do too! His ability to create simple images that convey a meaning and stand-out along with simple messages that convey a deeper meaning, is beyond comparison. We talk about taking care of the Earth constantly, but it is an abstract concept. This book has greatly aided our discussions and understandings of Earth conservation, helping us create caring awareness and actions.
