Carter’s Big Break by Brent Crawford is a very funny and interesting book.
Carter’s Big Break has some mature content but it is not too bad.
An example of a funny part is “I fail tests all the time because I don’t get the details right, but I get the ideas: History: war is good. Social studies: war is bad. Geography: wars were fought here, here and here.” (pg 82) This part is funny because this is how I sometimes think about Social Studies. Carter says lines like these a lot of times d More...

I enjoyed the first Carter book, so I was interested to see how this would pan out. A few have said that this one isn't as funny as the first, and that is true, but that doesn't hurt the book in anyway. Carter deals with some weird stuff here, so it's alright. Carter is still a teenage boy in over his head with life and he does stupid things that he really should have learned not to do by now. This is quite realistic and I think one of the better things about Crawford's character work. Teenage bo

One of the funnier movies of the last few years, I think, was Superbad. It was genuinely funny, for certain, but a lot of it was just the fun of hearing high schoolers be over-the-top profane for no real reason.
Carter Finally Gets It was sort of a Superbad for YA books for me. A lot of needless, but fun, profanity, and relative hilarity throughout. You'll notice, though, that Superbad never went back to the well. I think there's a reason for that, and Carter's Big Break is a grea More...

Narrator Nick Podehl does it again, expertly adding just the right amount of flair to bring young Will Carter’s voice to life.
School may be out for the summer, but that in no way lessons Carter’s adolescent struggles. Life is hard for teens these days, especially when they’re forced to face some very grown-up situations and Carter is no exception. Again a large factor to play into his troubles is sex. As with most guys his age, the big question is who’s getting some and who’s out of More...

I loved the secend one just as much as I loved the first. This book was just as funny as the first. In this book Carter thinks about his life and whathe wants to be when he's older, and what's right and whats wrong (the rocketship question is wrong). Carter tries to figure out what kind of man he wants to be:"Am I supposed to intimidate other people?C.B has all those tatoose, and so do most of the crew guys.He wears dreadlocks,a beard, and has muscles like armor. What don't I know? What is so dang

Carter survived his freshman year, barely, and is ready to rock his first high school summer. Things are going great with Abby, his fabulous girlfriend and he just found out that a hollywood movie will be filming in Merrian and his drama teacher wants him to try out for the lead role! Seems like everything is going his way, but we all know this can't last long, when everything falls apart. After making an insensitive suggestion to his girlfriend he is single again. He gets the lead role in t

I would recommend the book Carter's Big Break by Brent Crawford because some kids might be able to make self-connections to events in the story. Crawford says, “My face is hot from riding hard, so the embarrassment shouldn’t be that obvious,” (41). Some students can relate to this because most of them try to cover up mistakes when they do something wrong or embarrassing. Embarrassing moments can make everyone laugh at you so most kids try to cover up the situations. Crawford also states “I overc

Ok everyone if you've read my other reviews, you know that I absolutely LOVED Carter Finally Get's IT! Honestly the funniest, laugh out loud book I've EVER read. Brent Crawford should send me a kickback for all the books I've sold for him! Anyway, Carter's Big Break recently came out and I read it traveling around France a couple of weeks ago. Again, as I laughed out loud friends on the bus just had to know what was so funny and it was Wil Carter and his summer before sophomore year in high

Carter's Big Break is the seccond book in this searies. Its about a guy named carter who is on summer vacation. During his freshmen year he started doing lots of different things like acepting new people and doing school plays! But this summer he has a great opportunity, TO STAR IN A MOVIE! And not just any movie, a movie based off of his favorite book! Carter is very excited about the movie, and when he fianlly gets the part its all he can think about! But with all of the movie stuff going on h

The sequel to Carter Finally Gets It is all right if you enjoyed the first one. Crude, boy humor with an occasional touch of sensitivity . Basic plot: Carter has the chance to be in a Hollywood movie based on a book he read in English class because the director saw him star in Guys and Dolls the year before! On the downside, his girlfriend Abby broke up with him and he wants her back. Totally rips on childhood stars, referencing the "Wienus Brothers," the "Molsen Twins," a t

This book was very funny. I thought the first book was better but the second one was really funny also. This is a good book for you if you love to laugh and if have a perverted teenage mind just like I do. This book can make you laugh out loud and have people starring at you like your wierd. I experienced this awkward moment many times. I hate to read but Carter Finally Gets It and Carters Big Break I actually enjoyed to read these books. I stayed up tell midnight read Carters Big Break because

In CARTER FINALLY GETS IT, freshman Will Carter feels like he has truly made it. He scores the lead in the school musical Guys and Dolls, and he has an incredibly hot girlfriend. Yeah, his grades still stink, and his best friend, EJ, has gotten way more "lucky" with the ladies, but life is looking pretty good.

This sequel to Carter Finally Gets It was entertaining and made me laugh out loud a few times, although overall I don't think it was quite as strong as the first book. Set the summer after Carter's freshman year of high school, the school break begins on a bad note when his girlfriend dumps him after he makes an incredibly daft comment. He wants her back but isn't sure how to go about it because successfully dealing with girls is definitely not a talent he has, but a distraction quickly appear

This fair book is a sequel to a great book, so I'm a little disappointed. I can't heap enough praise on Carter Finally Gets It, with its fresh blend of goofy humor and honest adolescent guy. I love Carter because he's a lot like guys I have known, wrestling with familiar problems. My best friend could have been Carter. I could have been Carter. My eight-year-old son occasionally drops hints of Carter-osity, at which I simultaneously grin and cringe.

Another enjoyable book from Brent Crawford. Carter's back again, with a good mix of bumbling, insight, and good-hearted enthusiasm. He doesn't always know what to do or how to do it, but he makes it through somehow. This one, like the first, shows the tightrope kids have to walk down at that age, balancing family, friends, responsibilities, and dreams. Also, great insight into the dehumanizing aspect of "child stars".

This book was pretty good. Carter Finally Gets It(the first one) was better, but I loved it none the less. I didn't laugh as much, but I still cracked up on some parts. Carter is still same ol' Carter and it's great. He's so goofy, and sometimes I wonder, "is this how teenage boys really think?" Carter tries to play it hardcore but he's such a sensitive guy, it's funny. I love this book and Brent Crawford is a GREAT author.

Second book in the series, not anywhere close to as funny as the first. This is the summer after Freshman year and Carter has been cast in a movie opposite teen superstar Hilary Idaho. The book deals with much more serious content and the funny parts weren't as laugh out loud as the first. I still enjoyed this book but I hope the third book goes back to the laugh out loud thoughts of life inside the head of a 15 year old boy.

This book was mildly amusing, the author however failed to wrap up the story in a satisfying mannor. This book was not nearly as humoris as the preveous book. The plot in this book was not nearly as strong as the preveous book ether. I think the author tried to inlay a stronger moral message in this book, as to the preveous it was mostly just based upon humor.

Not as good as Carter Finally Gets It - the story line isn't as realistic so I'd say it's the teen boy equivalent of a summer beach read (fairly light stuff). I still thoroughly enjoyed it though and laughed out loud many times. Just wish that the author would stop using the "r" word - it's not necessary.

Nearly as funny as the first one (and still laugh-out-loud), this book follows Carter as he gets to act in a Hollywood movie, meeting and working with a huge teen star. Carter may have finally gotten it in the last book, but he still doesn't really know what's going on, is ruled by his emotions and hormones, and is generally a clueless teenager.

While I enjoyed this book, it didn't match the excitement and humor of Crawford's first book. I felt it was predictable and cliquish, but I will still recommend it to my middle schoolers because I know they aren't as critical as I am and reading is reading, right?!

This is not as good as the first Carter book, but I still enjoyed it. If I didn't like the first Carter so much, I probably would give this book a 3 or 3.5 stars. I think I missed his group of friends in this book. Still a fun read though.

Just as funny as the first one, and I love all the underhanded jokes making fun of Disney. The actress is named Hillary Idaho (hahah) and the Weenus Brothers (hahaha).
Once again, laugh out loud hilarity, with some rather insightful remarks about growing up and choosing who you are going to be. I would definitely read another Carter book if the author comes out with one.

Though not nearly as hilarious as Carter Finally Gets It, it does have its moments. Despite being a complete goofball, Carter does have a good heart and is capable of growth. I like that about him. Here's hoping Carter's adventures continue!

This is the sequel to Carter Finally Gets It, which, as you may remember, I adored. This book wasn't quite as funny but I still laughed out loud several times. And, I enjoyed spending more time with the character of Carter.

Love Carter! Carter's freshman summer and now he's acting in a real movie in his hometown with hottie Hillary Idaho. Carter is still in love with Abby but they are not dating. A funny freshman boy book with boy humor. Keep 'em coming Brent Crawford with more Carter episodes!!

Carter continues to make me laugh and/or cringe on nearly every page! the other characters are also three-dimensional, and so real I almost forgot I was reading fiction. highly recommended!

While it wasn't nearly as hilarious as Carter Finally Gets It this continuation of the story of Carter was just as enjoyable and it seems like he's growing up a little bit. Well, not in the sense of knowing how to treat girls but he's becoming a bit more mature. Carter is cast as a sorta lead in a movie that has come to his home town of Merrian. He is acting with child actor Hilary Idaho who throws tantrums, has been to rehab and doesn't know how to behave like a teenager. Carter leads her throu

Carter's starring in a movie and his co-star is a teen queen (think Disney stars). Will he actually get some? 'cause if you read Carter Finally Gets It, you know that's all he thinks about. Good book and I really enjoyed it but it's not nearly as funny and gross as the first one.
