Whoever convinced Solomons to write a textbook on a subject he clearly has only a passing familiarity with bears a hatred for the poor man so black I can only ascribe a demonic source.

Any organic chemistry book is better, any. The solutions manual is equally atrocious. "Solutions" to mechanisms skip several steps, crazy things are presented as solutions without comment. If three general approaches to a synthesis are equally valid, the "solutions" manual will switch between these approaches, pre...more

Im good at Chem, but I just hate it so much, I didn't work at my ap chemistry course for a whole semester and bought this book to study a week before the test and I got an awesome grade, it focuses more on different types of reactions and it's not that dense.
Riddled with errors that actually teach the wrong material, but if you are made aware of these and avoid them then the book is fine.

Clear descriptions and mechanisms (multi-coloured) help with studying.
Recommended over my other Organic textbook (which sucks big ones).
A good 'un, but the examples given in the text and accompanying study guide were too simple.
it's better to actually read than to carry all over campus for a year and counting...
