Hi, I'm Alice Cooper. I am in a band. I have multi-platinum albums. I have famous friends. I made a lot of money. I am a good golfer. I was an alcoholic, but I found Jesus. Did I mention I am a Christian? I have a sweet life.

That is the summary of this book.

So, I'm a Cooper fan. Let's get that straight from the start. So he probably could have completely screwed up with this book and I would still have enjoyed it. Luckily he didn't, although it's by no means a masterpiece.

It's kept short and sweet: this is a good thing as it's never getting pretentious, and as Cooper, at least to my mind, is all about entertaining. However, the backside of that is that you're never likely to get any meat with the story and after a while it feels like a More...

The Father of Shock Rock shares tidbits from his 40 plus years of stage experience and how golf helped save him from the alcohol that was destroying his life and music. Half memoir, half golf-tips, Monster is not terribly revealing or instructional for that matter. The good news is that none of that matters because the stories are so entertaining. Alice finally gets to the bottom of the whole live chicken incident and is rather frank about his conversion to Christianity and his decision to conti More...

”There’s a certain arrogance about being a Detroit guy… To this day, if you’re from Detroit, you feel a sense of pride and acceptance and respect.”

Hmmphhh… More like a conduit for curiosity or fear radiating from strangers, looked upon as the first generation in our families to walk upright, fully armed at all times, marooned in the ideal locale for drinking a bottle of Lysol, getting stuck in a doomed relationship, and having our throats torn out by vultures, brazenly confident th More...

This is the best hard-rock memoir I've ever read...at least, it is in the parts that deal with music. Alice's career in music is a far cry from his career in golf, and almost any reader is bound to enjoy one aspect of Alice's life a lot more than the other, making half the book a fairly dull read and the other half totally riveting. Alice's writing is smart and engaging--unlike that of, say, Nikki Sixx's Heroin Diaries. I've been lucky enough to see Alice in concert twice, and in both instanc More...

Yep, that's right - Alice Cooper. He's a Christian by the way - go figure! That's a pretty neat part of his story, and his whole story actually turned out to be a really good book. It was passed along to me from my dad, and it sat on my shelf for a few months. I was looking for an easy read one day, and I picked this up because I figured it had to be easy - Alice Cooper wrote it!

It's a combination of an autobiography and his 12-step program on BECOMING an addict - a golf addict More...

Just look at the cover: What’s not to like? Alice Cooper AND golf! And that photo of Alice holding a pitching wedge dripping blood… OK, so the subtitle invokes the recovery cliché of 12-step programs and we know AC was a raging lush back in the day….but…Alice AND golf…. Of course, my fandom has limits; I loved Alice in his heyday and yes, went to concerts, I won’t say when that was (though some of you know I’m getting fairly long in the tooth…), and one of the reasons I (and I suppose a lot of More...

I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be written from the heart, and he seemed really laid back. I laughed at parts where he talked about how he got signed because he helped his girlfriend babysit Frank Zappa's kids, or how he goes on about golf which is clear to see he is just as passionate about as rock n roll. A great read, relatively quick, and well worth it for any Alice Cooper fan. Not angsty or dwelling on any particular situation, just an overall great capture of his life and career More...

An enjoyable romp through the life, addictions, games and conversion of Alice. Can live with the God stuff (it's a cornerstone of his life afterall), don't mind the endless name dropping (it is ultimately fascinating just who Coop has hung out with over the years), but the endless Callaway plugging is too much. He might as well have put the damn logo on the cover. The corporate crap ruins an otherwise good book

A remarkably entertaining "jitterbug" of a book that dances between his life story, golf metaphors and insights, his overcoming alcoholism, and connecting with his Christian faith. I suppose it helps to understand golf and know a little about rock and roll, but I found myself connecting with his personal story much more than I would have assumed. And now I have to consider if I add him to my dream four-some....

A very quick listen, the audiobook is narrated by Alice himself which was nice. After spending hours and hours with John Lennon and Keith Richards, it was a tad disappointing to have such a brief glimpse into the life of this rocker. But in the end, I was satisfied that I'd heard enough. Golf tips didn't hurt either, actually.

Alice Cooper, rock's original "monster", creates an interesting book combining rock and roll with golf. He suggests that it was golf that saved is life and has helped keep him overcome his alcoholism. Having grown up during the time that Alice hit his career high point, it was fun to read about the connections that he had throughout his career. Viewed as a monster he really is a fairly normal guy behind the scenes. I was never a big fan of his music yet found this book to be worth the More...

I finished this book in 3 days flat. I can't explain why it was such a good read but I really found it interesting. There are accounts of tons of famous people from Jimi Hendrix to Fred Astaire. Throughout it all I feel Alice very nicely proves that he is not a physco but a very smart and intriguing person.
I loved it!

As if it is a surprise that I actually read this. I am not a fan of golf but I am a fan of Alice Cooper.

There is a lot about golf in this book but mostly it is about Alice Cooper and how and why he got into the game. It's interesting and entertaining.

Probably the worst thing about this book is its size, its way too short! He has a great history throughout the past 30 years and the names he drops of who he has had dealings with is staggering. A sequel please!

Having seen Alice in concert the first time because literally my mother made me back in the 80's and the more than two dozen times since the book provided a fan a look into his trouble years, beliefs and golf game.

A very insightful look into the life of one of Rock's biggest icons; this dude changed the business. Lots of golf-talk that I don't fully understand, as I'm no golfer. Still, golf is what got Alice Cooper sober.

If you like Alice Cooper, don't read it. You'll be disappointed. He is warbling on about golf, which is boring enough, but there is just not enough juice and Rock'n'Roll in his autobiography.

i enjoyed this book. Growing up with alice cooper and hearing all the stories of biting heads off chickens and finding out it wasn't true.

It wasn't the best book i read but not the worst either

As an Alice Cooper fan for decades, I figured I would enjoy this book simply because it was by and about Alice. It was nice to read a admittedly skimmed version of Alice becoming who he is today: A seasoned rock 'n roller who is addicted to golf and God.

I have seen several people comment that Alice's relating his Christian belief is too in-your-face in this book. I really didn't get that, even though I don't share the same faith as him. He was simply relating who he is today and how More...

Okay before i begin this review I have to inform you that i HATE biographies so alright. Since i've set the record straight i'll tell you what i think. The book tells Alice's life mixed in with golf tips. FREEZE! Okay right there tells you why I rated this book so low. The golf tips made me snooze!!! That is why it got rated 1 star. Not worth your time.
