I have a lot of found memories about this book. It is a book about self, featuring a short essay to read each day. It is set up in calendar format and wonderfully written to inspire peace in one's life. A book I will never part with!

Sarah Ban Breathnach's best in my opinion -- one which I use as reference rather than "gospel" however and which is dipped into at will.

This is a book that you can open to virtually any page and learn something about yourself. The author challenges the reader to step back and take a look at their own life to determine if it is being lived authentically or if the reader is living on "automatic pilot" according to expectations of others. Sarah Ban Breathnach provides exercises that the reader can perform that help us reach deep inside ourselves and appreciate the truth of who we are, not who others want us to be. She ...more

i read this book in my 30's and most appreciated it...sarah ban breathnach is either extremely well read or does wonderful research because not only did i enjoy the daily "guidance" (much of which, yes, is common sense; but in your 30's you are still learning a lot!) she includes so many books, authors, quotes, etc. which made me want to look further...i called this book my pink bible at one time...i actually never did the journaling and still found the book to be enjoyable and helpful...more

Excellent book.

the entire month of June sucked.

But I think I am the absolute antithesis of "home maker" so that might explain it.

Others, who enjoy doing things such as "tucking muffins" and tying up towels with grosgrain ribbons might enjoy her month of June.

Otherwise, great stuff.

Also, eerily on the mark, for some days. Like, I'd open up the book and all of a sudden she'd have a quote from a book that I'd just read, and had never heard of before, or addr...more

This is a daily journal entry type book without an expiration date. Follow the entries from January 1rst through December 31rst and discover more about life and yourself than you thought was possible. I might not read this book everynight but it is something I always come back to when I need something more to focus on in my life besides negativity, world problems or self doubt. A definate inspiration for me to think outside the box and be eternally grateful for the people in my life and the thin...more

MA, Angie and I all read this together one year. Or at least attempted to---I sometimes found myself reading a whole month at once to catch up.

There's plenty to mock here, if you must. But I love quotes, and I had just had my first child and was just beginning to embrace the idea that "home-making" could be more than drudgery. Most of it isn't new---I had been keeping a gratitude journal for years, but it's full of the sort of wisdom you need constant reinforcement of in order to k

This was the first "self help book that I ever read. My mother saw the author on Oprah when the book first came out, and she wanted a copy..., so I 2 copies, one for her and one for me. From what I remember I was impressed by it as it made me reflect on what I have to be grateful for vs. what I don't have in my life. It's been years since I read it, so it may not strike me as being so thought provoking, but as I said, it was the 1st of self help genre that I had ever read

This book has become a seasonal and daily bible of sorts for me that I've go in and out of now for well over a dozen years since it first came out. I've reread it cover-to-cover during the course of many years. A gift for every woman that keeps on giving! For a more indepth review, go to my review at http://www.printnpost.com/arti...

I came upon this book at a time when I needed a calming influence. It was in my childhood toy chest - a gift waiting to be given, so I gave it to myself. It was just what I needed the day I discovered it, and I've been reading it ever since. It's a daily reminder of gratitude, focus, love and joy. I read it before I fall asleep because the thoughts are calming for me.

I really liked this book.. lots of really good ideas for simplifying and better appreciating your life, although I never did do most of them!! I should try it again since it's been about 12 years since I read it!! Good ideas for every day/month of the year starting in January. Maybe I'll start it on Jan. 1 and see how well I do this time around. . . .

I found it at a thrift shop the day after Christmas without really knowing what it was about. It saved my sanity the first full year in my house as a single-first-time-homeowner. Every morning I looked forward to my few minutes with the day's essay. I enjoyed it so much that I've continued to keep my Gratitude Journal.

I read this book years ago - it came at a good time in my life and I did read it everyday for a year - made me appreciate the smaller things in life and the lessons I have learned have stayed with me - now might be a good time to read this with all that is going on with the economy - simple living - simple pleasure

The author of this book has written a few paragraphs for you to read every day. I read this 7 or 8 years ago, and there is a day in October (somewhere in the teens, I don't remember which one anymore) that spoke to me so loudly that I photocopied that page and kept it on my bulletin board for years. I love this book.

Maybe a little more for the girls, this book. Though a straight guy who got a little out of it, would be, of course, hot. It sometimes reads like a page out of Victoriana. A book of little essays on quality over quantity, elegance, and warmth in the home to elevate your art of warm baths by candlelight.

This is not a read cover to cover type of book... It is a day by day reflection on life, gratitude, and self. My stepfather gave me this book when I was in my early 20s, and it changed my life. I STILL haven't gotten through an entire year of reading it each day, but when I need it...it is always there for me.

I started reading this book when I was having a hard time in my life. I actually never got through the whole thing, but I started the gratitude journal and it changed my whole perspective on life. I was dog earing and marking every page. I go back to it every once in awhile and start reading/doing it all over.

This book is basically a collection of daily devotionals. It's all about being grateful for what you have, learning to be content but not complacent, and it focuses a lot on making the most of what you have--from your home to clothing, to career, to relationships. Fun quotes under each daily heading.

Read this book when we were first married and moving around a lot. I hadn't read the book but was asked to give a R.S. lesson around it for Enrichment.... Read it quickly and became a believer in positive journal entries and writing down things you are grateful for. Makes a difference.
