Four sisters, a Manhattan brownstone, and a tumultuous year of loss and courage are at the heart of Danielle Steel’s new novel about a remarkable family, a stunning tragedy—and what happens when four very different young women come together under one very lively roof.

Candy–it’s the only name she needs—is blazing her way through Paris, New York, and Tokyo as fashion’s late

My kid bought me this book for Valentines Day. Since he's five, we won't really judge him on his lack of literary tastes. Yet. Give him a few years.

Sentimentally, I read it. And then I hated it. Her writing seems to be aimed at the barely literate. She uses small words. Short sentences and repeats things over and over. Then again. And again, just to make sure the point was made.

This book. It made me feel less intelligent, just for having read it.
Awful, couldn't finish.

The characters were "too perfect," and the father absolutely pathetic when he doesn't visit his daughter in the hospital because it's just "too hard." If I could talk to the book I'd tell the girls to get over themselves and to the dad to grow a pair.

Doesn't even deserve one star.
This is the second book I have read by Steel - well, nearly read, seeing as I couldn't finish it. The first one - Coming Out - was bad. Very bad. But I thought everyone deserves a second chance, and tried this novel. What a mistake that was.
While yes, the accident did bring a small tear to my eye, it soon became pretty apparent that there was no use in crying over this book, as it is completely unrealistic. The sister goes blind - a tragedy yes, but it's amazing how the metal pipes that cause
I am not a huge Danielle Steel fan but this book's title, "Sisters" and blurb on the back caught my eye (I am one of three girls so ya, I have sisters). Interestingly enough, I didn't completely hate it. It had the makings of a good story. However, there were some serious turnoffs about it. The major one being the author's characters are almost, in a sense, overcooked. For me, I prefer to have the characters remain a bit pink so they retain some flavor! I, also like to develop my own opinion of ...more

First of all did anybody else notice all the errors in this book? There were so many contradictions which irritate me to the core! First she says tammy's hair is red like her mothers only curly, then when the sisters are dividing up their mother's clothes Annie puts on a cashmere sweater and looks so beautiful, of course, and just like her mother who "has the same color hair", yet Annies hair is a chestnut. Then when she is describing Tammue's home in the beginning she says that tammy is just to ...more

The best part about this book is how awful it is. Hilarious! Candy the Model is THE ULTIMATE Mary Sue. But my favorite part is when the artist sister gets in a car accident, which does no damage to her pretty face or green eyes on the outside, but the doctor can see on the X-ray that her brain is like totally broken and she is going to be blind forever. Oh, and she will have extra brain damage if they don't operate. Immediately. "Oh no!" her sisters think. "She would totally hate that." (She mea ...more

I love the way the book opens for you. There are four sisters in the book and the first four chapters are dedicated to introducing you to them and their current lives. Sabrina(a successful lawyer in Manhattan), Tammy (a successful t.v. producer in Hollywood) , Annie (an aspiring artist living in Florence, Italy), and Candy (a globe-hopping supermodel). Their family ties are very strong and always drop their own lives to celebrate family holidays together with their parents in Conneticut.

Sisters by Danielle Steel was actually recommended to me by my mom. She thought this book would be enjoyable for me and she was right! I gave this 4 stars because while reading this book there was many times when tears actually started to fill my eyes. This is the story of 4 sisters, all completely different from each other but extremely close with one another. Their mother and one of the middle sisters, Annie, get into a horrible car accident. Their mother unfortunately does not make it, howeve ...more

I'm about half-way through this book. I haven't read a DS novel in about 15 years. This book has reminded me why I really don't like her. How repetitive can a person be? Seriously, the central issue is that the mom dies in a car accident is the sister is blinded from a head injury. Do you SERIOUSLY need to repeat that over and over and over. I think we know WHY everyone is feeling “sad.” If I ever wrote that a previous book I read was the worst book ever, I was wrong. Sisters is truly the worst ...more
I bet they're all different and they all get along in the end.
This is the first book I have read of Danielle Steel in over a decade. I stopped reading her because it was the same story over and over with different settings. Most of her books dont come with descriptions on them, so when I was in the bookstore the other day, I was surprised to find this book with one. It sounded interesting, so I gave it a chance.

It seems she is trying her hand at a new kind of writing. She had too many details in the beginning and then seemed to cram as much info as she cou

Sisters is about four ... sisters. I don't remember their names, so I'm going to call them CareerWoman, AttractiveWoman, HollywoodWoman and ArtistWoman. Yep, their personalities can be summed up by their careers/basic personality-traits. They don't have any personality beyond that. They live very far away from each other, of course, in cities that one would assume each of the personality types would live in.

Oh, and don't worry if you find it hard to get to know people! Steel tells us al

It's one of the most awful books I have read in my life.
After Silent Honor, I expected something great from Danielle again, but I was very wrong. Story is so-so. Everything seems so perfect it's pathetic. Her style couldn't be worse. Anyone could have written it better, even 15-year-olds.
I was feeling awkward while reading it. The sentences are annoying, and so are the characters. Sabrina annoyed the hell out of me.
And I have to agree with one of the reviews here, Danielle repeats the same thi
Ah, what it must be like to live in Danielle Steel's world - where are the main characters are beautiful, perfect, and happy. And if you forget, you'll be reminded of it several times. My favorite part of this book is when, after a family tragedy, the family doctor gives one of the sisters a bottle of Valium to distribute at her pleasure. Hello! Isn't that illegal? What if she then subsequently sold them, was caught, and then hauled off to jail? Who would be responsible - the sister or the docto ...more

This book is written so horribly. Every sentence is a simple sentence, with not syntax variation. Steel describes the sisters to detail but then can't keep the details straight throughout the whole book. The book seems to be an exploration into "Telling, not showing" (which is the opposite of what good writers do...). There was little to no dialogue, and every idea gets repeated 15 times because clearly you can't understand it the first 14 times. Certainly an easy read, if a bit painful to have ...more

I'd probably be over exaggerating if I said the book was the best I've ever read because honestly it wasn't. However the case may be, it wasn't the worst either. Actually in all the books I've read by Danielle Steel since the 2000s, considering she hasn't has a great book since 1997, this was a poignant tale about sisterhood, hence the title Sisters. Of course I knew there would be some happy go lucky ending with the story but the second, third and fourth chapters I wasn't prepared for! I will n ...more
If there was a rating lower than one star, I would give it to this. It was not written well at all, breaking every rule of writing--and not in a good way. I could not even finish it, though I tried a hundred pages worth. I do not recommend this at all, to anyone, and the only thing I learned from it is that if this could get published, then I could.

Danielle Steel is a fantastic author - one of my favorites. I have many - but not yet all of her books. I'm looking forward to buying what I don't have, and reading them. All Danielle Steel books go on my keeper list - a list of my personal favorite authors. Sisters is well written and one of my favorite Steel novels. I also revisit earlier books by Danielle Steel. I recently reread "Going Home, and look forward to rereading more of Danielle Steel's earlier novels."

Recommends it for: anyone who is desperate to read a very passive and boring book.
Sisters caught my attention when I was walking around Borders, I read the description and was excited to read it. I'm all for independent women leading successful jobs or doing something they like and I love it when women conquer over hardships in their lives. I thought this would be a great book to read, at least I thought I did.

The first chapters of introduction were quite nice actually, I enjoyed reading about the different lives the sisters led and it amazed me how close they were. The plot
The idea of the book, the central point of sisterly love and support through difficult times, was good. The book, however, was written with short sentences, very little variation in syntax, and often times repetitive. It spends the first four chapters describing the life of every sister, every single one of which seemed superficial and two dimensional. None of the characters change or develop throughout the story, despite the accident and one of them becoming blind. The relationships between the ...more
