There are books I have loved, that I have truly enjoyed, that I have given 5 stars to. I have included my raving review with a lot of those ratings. This book is different. I haven't added a review because it will be so hard to give justice to, but I decided this morning that it is time to try.
First of all, contrary to popular belief, Joseph Smith Jr. is not the 'author' of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets, just as the Bible was written by prophets a...more

This book has taught me and teaches me of the things that will happen to a people who will not listen to the Lord. It is one book that lifts me up and helps me be a better person. It gives me insite as to how life can be if I will do what I know to be right and true. It takes me from darkness into light about the true nature of God.

The Book of Mormon
The story of a civilization from beginning to end and the interactions between the people and God. There is a large section in the middle describing warfare strategies. Some thematic elements such as genocide, racism, corruption like the mafia, murder, etc. Some chapters of pure theology. Full of little gems of truth. A book that requires thinking.
The Doctrine and Covenants
The compiled revelations Joseph Smith received from God. Many start with something like "Th...more

i know three stars is practically blasphemous, but i really almost put two.
i try to love it, i really do. Someday I will fall passionately in love with it, i hope. Highlights for me: king benjamin, jacob (Nephi's little bro), and ether. i think of them as the girly prophets - as they touch on internal and metaphysical themes.
For now, it is a struggle. It's fatal flaw for arrogant me: not enough girl stories. i know the war stuff is particularly relevant to us in this day, but it takes...more

I was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 8-years-old. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time all the way through when I was a young teenager. Since then, I have read this book many times. There is a promise in The Book Of Mormon in Moroni 9:4, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart,...more

I have read this book a number of time since my first time back in the summer of 2002. This was a book that I was taught from since my childhood, but never read myself until I was nearly 23 years old. I wanted to know once and for all if it was true. I read it in a two week period of time and finished it the day that I was to start my first insitute class on the Book of Mormon. I was at a point in my life where I felt I had lost what I had considered to be some of the best parts of my charac...more

Another testiment of Jesus Christ. The Bible is the word of God from His prophets in the Holy Land. The Book of Mormon is the word of God from His prophets on the American Continent during a similar time frame. The Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected. He then visited His disciples in the Holy Land as well as His disciples in the Americas. This book of scripture is a collection of the prophets personal dealing with God, their personal history and struggles. It contains a more in depth...more

The Prophet Joseph Smith once said “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book” (History of the Church, 4:461; quoted in the Introduction to the Book of Mormon). With that bold statement the line is drawn, either this book is from heaven or it is not. I found out for myself that The Book of Mormon is holy scripture from God through...more

From observation I have seen the goodreads crowd addressing largely more fiction/casual/ non-denominational books and maybe we are wont not too tackle weightier topics. However, good for my son Riley for writing his humble and simple testimony of these all important books. "It will change your life." he wrote. His passion prompted me to write a few of my own feelings for all the world to see as these books, especially the Book of Mormon have impacted my life for good more than anything...more

This is the book that is at the top of my list of books, because it has had the greatest impact on my life. It's a book unlike any other -- not just a story, but a book with so much meaning. I have read it more times than I can count, and continue to read from it basically every day. One of the things that is amazing about scripture is that it takes on new significance depending on my needs and the circumstances in my life.

This book is a sacred record of a group of people who come to the American Continent just before 600 BC. It testifies of Jesus Christ and his divine role as the Savior to all men. "a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book" ~Joseph Smith Jr. I too will add my testimony that if any one who will pray to God and read this book with pure intent, intent to know the truth and to feel God's love, I have know doubt you will find it. You will feel a buring...more

The Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price are the books that make me spiritual heart sing. It defines my testimony of Jesus Christ, his teachings and his great atoning sacrifice. Joseph Smith, the translator of this book, said " a man can get closer to God by reading it's pages than any other book." I believe this to be true and would challenge anyone who is sincerely seeking spiritual truth to read these books and see if they do not touch your hear...more

Now this is a book I learn from. I try to read it everyday with Steve. We can only get thru one chapter before we have to stop and discuss. There are so many lessons in this book to use everyday. It is all about our savior and his dealling with people on the American contenent about the same time as the bible. Having read this book in high school and really having a testimony of the gosple has inproved every aspect of my life and I thank heavenly father everyday for that.
