Muscular language, noble ideals, here we have a tale of virtue beleaguered, ground down by the tyranny and despotic selfishness of an absolutist ruler and his corrupt court. Luise Miller is, however, not the victim of aristocratic sexual rapaciousness, her noble lover has every intention of marrying her: but such a marriage crosses social frontiers, they are both the object of ghastly intrigue that first separates and then kills them. Magnificent.

I hated it until we got to play around with it (and edit, edit, edit...) in drama class, then it suddenly started to be interesting. Gave me the same feeling as Romeo & Juliet, though: 'Enough with the overflowing drama already, I'm gagging on it.'

i like this one so much...
Good...but oh so tragic.
I never expected to actually like this book. Especially not since I had to read it for my exam. But I enjoyed it. The beginning was really good, intruiging and I also like the style and the oh so different language.
Sadly, the ending didn't really do it for me. *shrug* Act 4 was a bit too long and we all know what was about to happen. I dunno, I got a bit bored reading the last pages. Nonetheless, a really good book!

I had to read it in school and actually liked it. At that time I also found out that Schiller had once done a translation for "Romeo and Juliet" which made me pretty sure that he stole at least half the content of the story from Shakespeare but I still liked his version. Probably mostly because I watched a modern interpretation of the play at the theatre back then and really enjoyed it.
I can summarize this book by stating how Schiller is just not my thing. It wouldn't be fair to write a review about this because I struggled through every line.
I know a lot of people who preferred this book to Lessing's Emilia Galotti - I obviously didn't (which is just a fact, not a a judgment). If you like Schiller, this book might appeal to you - if you don't, run and don't look back.

The "opposites attract" plot may be a bit tried by now, but in its day, the effort to laud the romance between a commoner and a nobleman, and the corrosive forces this provokes, was heroic, visionary, and efficacious. The emotional language and the colourful cast of riveting, if sketchy, characters, makes it a must-have in German literature. A textbook example of Sturm und Drang!
Intrigue and Love.
I enjoyed reading this, but unfortunately I've forgotten too much of my impressions to write a review. Had to read too many books in too short a time, I guess.
I know one thing though: I want to read more of Schiller, I like his way of thinking.

One of the worst books we had to read at school. Did anyone like it at all? Did anyone understand it? Might be literarily valuable but nothing for pupils to read in school, really.
For Uni. I hated it. Not easy to read at all.
Unspektakulär.
It was okay.
