I read this when I was a kid and it made such an impression on me but I couldn't for the life of me remember the title nor author. We just read Wolves of Willoughby Chase and it reminded me of it. Then, our friends who were hosting book club had it on their shelf and brought it to my attention. Wow! So eerie!

I didn't read Roald Dahl until I was in my twenties and he taught me that you can write for children without talking down to them.

A sweet book about a boy and his dad. It made me want to try Toad in the Hole. I had it when I went to England, very tasty.
