I'll confess up front that I didn't finish this one either, although I am very close...the plane just landed before I finished last few pages, and it really isn't worth my time to back for the ending. This reads very much like a paper someone wrote in a sexuality course at seminary. It has way too much personal information, it gushes about faculty members that they have taken (hoping to get a few extra credit points), and in some places it glosses over the obvious "meat of the passage" More...

This book completely missed the mark.

While some parts would have been good for young adults but basically, each essay made excuses for their sins.

Examples:

1. One essay (well, pretty much ALL of the essays) stated that they didn't believe that being homosexual is a sin even though the Bible clearly states that it is, but never explained how or why they justified that. (I'm not trying to get into arguments with people. I'm not saying that it is or is not wrong--I More...

I checked this out because I went to high school with one of the editors, and I'm glad I did. Each chapter is dedicated to a different aspect of sexuality, ranging from hooking up to fertility problems, and written by a different author, all of whom are involved in some form of ministry. The term young adult in the title is misleading, because the authors are not writing as young adults, but rather sharing events from their past.

When I was younger, I quickly realized that there were questions you never asked your parents or your minister--especially your minister.

Can I be a good Christian and still have sex? How far is too far? Am I expected to look like all those skinny girls on tv? What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

Oh God, Oh God, Oh God is a great book to open discussions on all of these topics. All of those topics that the Church has considered taboo can be discussed openly. I wish I'd More...

Some really amazing chapters, some less so. I read this to prepare with working for young adults, I was hoping it would a read together book - probably not. But something that I will keep in mind as a resource.

Seriously, don't bother. Even the one or two decent essays in here can make up for the greater majority that are beyond terrible.

Some very good points towards the beginning, but all the angst about infertility towards the end was completely skippable. (I got the point after about 5 pages, and there was no need to have multiple chapters on it.)

Still, a good read and recommended. It provided an interesting window into the lives of some, and sadly unsurprising view of how poorly many churches deal with these issues -- and a surprising view of how well some do.
