This is the third Lake/March book by Amanda Quick. The two have realized their feelings for each other and must work to find time together. When they are invited to a house party, the$y believe that everything will be great. Lavinia finds a woman with her arms around Tobias, and becomes disgruntled. They witness a murder and are kicked out of the party. They come back to London on the hunt for a killer. Tobias’s past comes back to haunt him, and he tries to keep Lavinia out of the case. A...more
I don’t quite get published authors who use a pseudonym, but Amanda Quick, aka Joyce Krentz, must have a good reason. This novel, set in post-Napoleonic England, was entertaining to listen to (i.e., the British actor was adept at different character voices.) The unexpected twists and turns (and perhaps broad leaps) to the plot and character development caught my attention (i.e., Hey, what just happened there?) The sharp class differences and restrictive attitudes about men’s and women’s roles...more
The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it's the last one in the Lake & March series. Lavinia & Tobias are the most entertaining sleuth duo since Maddie Hayes and David Addison. The murder mystery is complicated and engrossing. The secondary couples, Anthony and Emeline, and Lady Dove and Lord Vale, serve to move the plot along in substantial ways but are also interesting couples in their own right. The addition of Dominic Hood seemed excessive at first but his conflict with Anthony...more
Amanda Quick is one of those romance writers that I never seem to tire of. This one I rather enjoyed, finding the two main characters of Lavinia and Tobias to have some real depth and real problems to overcome. Great for HFR readers who want a bit more than sheer fluff to their novels. Book 3 of a trilogy.

Once again I ended up with the 3rd in the series, w/o knowing there were more, but there was enough background that I wasn't lost, and it was enjoyable enough that I want to go find the first two, just so I can see how everything evolved.
The case they're working on is fairly predictable, but I liked the characters well enough that I didn't much care.

Late for the Wedding is another murderous adventure for Lavinia Lake and Tobias March who you may have read about in Amanda Quick's other two novels, Slightly Shady and Don't Look Back. Lake and March are a fun pair. Their stories are fun to read but nothing sticks out in them to put them over the top.
The third and last in the Lavinia Lake/Tobias March series, this one is perhaps my favorite of the three, although they are all terrific. The plot line has the novelty of the four private investigators (helped by their two higher-born friends) pursuing an early version of a "hit man". By now, the characters seem like old friends. Lord Vale and Joan Dove are back, Anthony and Emeline develop further as characters, and Priscilla gets a bigger part (very minor role in the first two). ...more
This ebook port (as well as the previous one in the series, Don't Look Back) was terrible. I'm not sure who they hired to handle this but letters were missing from almost at least one word per page. Highly distracting.
The book in a little difficult to get into - this writer is really not my cup of tea. Some friends have told me to read her; however, for me it is not my style.
I read this book because it had my first name in it, but the character Aspasia turned out to be nothin like me. This book is part romance and part mystery. It was ok, but not wonderful.
This was my first of this genre -- Victorian romance mystery ... it was ok, but didn't make me want to read others.
Can not for the life of me remember why I thought reading this might be a good idea.
My favorite guilty pleasure! I talk about Amanda Quick here -

Tobias march and lavinia lake to solve another mystery, last part of the trilogy
I was sorry to let these characters go. Great romping mysteries!
Clever plot, but required section skipping to get past some dirty scenes.
Gostei dos personagens, muito divertido!
this was an interesting murder mystery/romance novel. i enjoyed reading it and was surprised, but glad, that it focused more on the murder than the romance. it was a good balance. i'm considering reading the other books with the same main characters.

A strong ending to the series. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Last in a great trilogy featuring 2 of my favourtie characters, Tobias and Lavinia. Once again a fantastic story by AQ. I do have a gripe with this one, though. I thought because it was the last in the trilogy and the 'conclusion' of the romance for Lavinia and Tobias that the romance would have taken a greater role in this one. Never mind it was still a very enjoyable read. I would love to see a follow-up though for Emmeline and Tony??!!
Finally Lavinia and Tobias are married! It's seems like I've been waiting ages. The book's good. Typical Amanda Quick; although I would have preferred not waiting three books for their marriage.
