Whew, done! It is hard to overstate the impact of this 800 page brick of an edited volume on the field of Chinese history. In addition to the (EXTREMELY IN DEPTH) laying out of Skinner's theory on the physio-economic macroregions of China, there are quite a few very interesting essays, I particularly enjoyed the earlier chapters on the cosmology and morphology of Chinese capital cities, as well as Feuchtwang's chapter on the interaction of elite official religion and popular religion in Qing ...more
