Entertaining enough. I picked up the 2 Joe Grundy books rather impulsively and while I didn't care for the first I thought the author had potential to develop it into a more interesting series. Like you could look back and see it as a good starting point. And I liked the title character a lot. (I was sorry to later learn the author passed away). Standard murder mystery except the "investigator", Joe Grundy, is head of hotel security / hotel owner's body guard and he's investigating the murder of his boss' fiancee. The boss, Leo, doesn't say much about anything but it turns out he's surrounded by people who have many reasons to wish him ill. Many of these people are his former lovers and his grown children.

Joe lucks into the information he uncovers and he keeps several steps ahead of the police, not because of any flashes of brilliance
