Joanne Weeks is a fifty-something skip tracer who finds herself facing off against the town's favorite good-guy when she accuses him of murdering his first wife, her best friend, six years earlier. She always suspected him, but with no evidence, and the entire town standing behind him, it's not until his second wife dies in an accident, too, she realizes he has to be stopped.

Baxter Jackson’s two wives have died within six years of each other. His first wife, Linda, was Joanne Weeks’ best friend. He was the richest man in town, sponsoring a Little League baseball team. The church’s head elder. Everybody’s best friend. The epitome of Christian perfection.
No one ever spoke against Baxter, until Joanne Wells, through an eavesdropping reporter. She is absolutely sure he was responsible for both deaths, but has no proof. During a late-night, rainy winte More...

I have always enjoyed every book Brandilyn Collins has ever written and “Deceit” is one of the best. I was very surprised at the ending in this great book. I hate it when half way through a book I discover who the killer is, but this was a surprise to the very end.
This book takes place six years after Joanne’s best friend Linda dies. Joanne blames the death on her friend’s husband, Baxter because of the way he treated her. Then his second wife dies by an accident, but no one wants to look More...

This book I read in two days, largely because I was too scared to stop reading.
Brandilyn Collins is a masterful suspense writer. She achieves this spine tingling tale not with lots of gore and violence, but subtle, psychological plots.
Deceit is about Joanne Weeks, a widowed “skip tracer” who makes a living tracking down people who are trying to hide. Joanne believes that six years ago, her best friend Linda did not just disappear as the police concluded. She believes Linda wa More...

Joanne Weeks firmly believes that her friend was murdered by her husband, Baxter Jackson - especially when his second wife also ends up dead. The only person who may know what happened is Melissa, a former foster child, who has disappeared. Fortunately, Joanne is a skip tracer by profession and sets out to find her.
No one can create tension in words like Brandilyn Collins, and once again she has created a fast-paced and exciting suspense thriller. I had not heard of the term skip tr More...

This was another mystery that I picked up cheap on Kindle - I wasn't sure I'd like it when I started it, but it really sucked me in. The mystery aspect was original and kept me guessing, and the characters were very realistic (the 'Jelly Belly thing did drive me slightly crazy but that got a little better as the story developed). I should note that there is religious content - I'm not Christian, and I didn't find it heavy-handed (actually I thought it was interesting, especially the 'is lying ev

This book has been sitting idle on my kindle since Nov 2010 when it was offered for FREE (now it's 9.99). I guess this is the reason I missed the Christian Mystery part of the description. However despite that it was a well written mystery/ who done it book. Normally I do not enjoy going past to present to past to present, but Collins did it so smoothly I could not image it being done any other way. It's a quick read and you finish it feeling all answers to your questions are answered.

What a great read - I give “Deceit” by Brandilyn Collins 5 stars!!! This murder mystery novel by Brandilyn Collins is very well written, and a joy to read. The author of “Deceit” does a fine job of telling a great tale of unsolved murders, WITHOUT the normal levels of gratuitous violence and foul language. I sooo enjoyed it!

Deceit is two stories that are in different times that flow alongside each other. The current day story takes place in just a couple of days, but the back story takes place in the span of several months. The author writes in a way that it isn't confusing to switch back and forth between the two. It begins on a rainy night when a "hooded man" jumps in front of Linda’s car and tells her that he knows Baxter killed Linda and Melissa (the foster daughter) saw him do it, and Melissa knows w

I really enjoy Brandilyn Collin's books. She keeps you in suspense throughtout her novels. Baxter Jackson has had one wife disappear and one wife die in a fall. His first wife's best friend, Joanne Weeks believes there was foul play and Baxter killed her best friend, Linda. Now to get people to believe her when Baxter is 'king' of the town will be very interesting on who she can trust in her small town. Baxter and Linda's foster child also comes back to take on an important roll in solving

Fast pace book, with interesting characters. Each character has an interesting background which the author manages to tell without the book feeling complicated or overwhelming. I really enjoyed the way the author wrote this book, flashing back on the past, letting the readers understand how and why things happened. There were little surprises along the way, some sweet some downright ugly, but all of them added to the interest of this book. I would definately read another book by Brandilyn Col

I don't know where I heard about this book to put on my Kindle - if someone told me about it, I saw it on a book list, it was free that day, etc. Nonetheless, it was a really good mystery. The whole the was suspenseful, a little bit predictable (although I'd like to contribute that to my great detective skills), and was an easy read. I'd recommend it to mystery lovers out there.

The storyline was good, but at times, the "writing" got in the way. Also, this was the Kindle version, and there were several typos and one outright error.......the word "sites" was used in one instance when the word should have been "sights." That surprised me, since this book was released by a reputable publisher. One would hope the errors were corrected in the print version.

It turned out much better than I thought it would be. This author has potential but she apparently went to the Harlequin Romance School for mystery novels. Some of her descriptions read like a bodice ripper, but she is speaking of terror not passion. Not bad plot and character development. She needs to put a leash on the adjective and adverbs.

I liked this free Kindle download. The subject was not good -- a physically abusive husband who is a pillar of the community, as well as a "good" Christian. And, the heroine of the story, Joanne Weeks, knows that he had murdered his wife, as well as being guilty of doing the same to his second wife. The plot twist at the end was actually sad.

A free kindle book. Main character is a skip tracer so it kind of reminded me of the Stephanie Plum novels only without the humor. I can see why this one was free. It wasn't particularly well written. The characters are flat and the mystery was predictable. However it also didn't take any attention so it was a good travel read.

I would have given this book 3 1/2 stars if it were offered. Deceit was a slow starter. It took a while to grab me. About midway through, I became hooked as to how the story would end. I couldn't connect with the main character and found her occupation to be an unbelievable part of the story. This was not one of Brandilyn's best (loved the Kanner Lake series), but it is an enjoyable read.

Another fasten-your-seatbelt for a suspenseful ride from Brandilyn Collins. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there were a couple of minor loose ends that weren't tied up to my satisfaction. But the twisty-turny mystery was solved in a surprising way.

This was a surprisingly good book. Very quick read with lots of suspense and mystery. Until I got towards the end I was trying to guess if it was Baxter or Melissa that really killed Linda. These are the kind of books that I like. Where you don't know you did it until the end!

Joanne Weeks is a skip tracer and she's looking for the murderer of her best friend 6 years ago, if they don't get her first. This book kept me guessing to the end because I just wasn't sure who was who. The authors hints and clues add up to a very satisfying ending.

The story line was ok but very predictable. Initially I was drawn in by the vivid description of being afraid when the garage was broken into. I'm a fairly nervous person myself and could actually feel the fear.
However, as the book went on I felt I knew what was going to happen before it did so it became a fairly standard who done it. The constant consumption of Jelly Bellies made it feel rather like an advertising campaign too.

Corruption, intrigue, the little guy (well, lady) who is shunned or pushed aside for what she notices or believes (knows) - Super Job with this book. Suspense, thrills and even some twists. A great read that will keep you in it to the end.

The latest in her Seatbelt suspense TM books, I was so totalled caught up in the story and the action, I couldn't put the book down, it took control of my mind in the pursuit and the chase. I love forensic type mystery stories, this is great

I gave up on one Christian fiction book before this one came along, so I was a little reluctant to start Deceit. Turns out it's a well-written story that grabs you in the beginning and doesn't let you go until the murders are solved.

Another freebie for my Kindle. I've read the Kanner Lake series by Brandilyn Collins and really liked them. This one was simliar, her "Seatbelt Suspense" type of book. I really enjoyed it! Not a huge surprise on the whodunit, but still a well written, enjoyable book :)

Enjoyed the novel. I have read enough mysteries that I figured out a major plot point about half-way through the book, but I wasn't totally sure I was right. It was still a good read and really intense.
