(This is a review of all the books in the Dead Is series.)

The Dead Is series was filled with fun, short reads that I enjoyed. There are a lot of paranormal aspects, and not very many people have to hide who, or what they are.

There were a few things that bothered me throughout the series. It was a little too easy to figure out the plot and where it was headed, the bad guys weren't difficult to spot, and some of the occurrences just happened without any background or explanation. I just had to acc...more

This is such a cute little series. I've really enjoyed reading all the books. In 'Dead is Not An Option', Daisy the detective is on the trail once again to solve the mysteries of Nightshade, while also getting ready for graduation and college.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick, easy read. It was also the perfect ending for the series. There were quite a few twists that I didn't see coming. Quite a few funny moments also. I enjoyed watching the characters grow over this series, an...more

Tensions are high in the small community of Nightshade. Rifts in the vampire and were factions of the paranormal residents are deepening. It's the type of situation that local sleuther Daisy Giordano can't help but end up in the middle of. Our leading lady is also diligently trying to find a counter spell to release her prophetic jukebox friend Lilly and her pot belly pig beau Bam from their unnatural states. Top that off with her senior year duties, and Daisy is in for a busy year. Unfortunatel...more

This is my first foray into the series and, as with series that I enjoy you don't have to read the other books to get what's going on, but I definitely am going to after this one. I've been wanting to read the series for a long time and own two others already, so when I saw that I could get this one as a review at Netgalley, I jumped at the chance.
If you are looking for a book that's adult and in-depth than this series is not for you, however, this book beats the Twilight series any day. It's...more

This is book 5 in the "Dead is... series.
1. Dead is the New Black
2. Dead is a State of Mind
3. Dead is So Last Year
4. Dead is Just a Rumor

My thoughts:
Although this book easily stands alone, I would suggest reading the whole series - in order. I enjoyed the story, but there were some references to previous happenings that left me feeling, not that I was lost but that I wished I had read the first four books before this one.

The characters are wonderful! I have to say that Lil (the jukebox) is my...more

Graduation is on the horizon and Daisy's life is about to change in more ways than she could imagine.

Her nemesis, Circe, is back in town. The Weres and the vamps are fighting for the first time in decades. Her best friend's dad seems to be rolling in the proceeds of his newest book. And college acceptance letters are arriving.

Well... They're arriving for everyone else.

For some reason, Daisy isn't getting her letters. She also isn't getting Lily and Balth...more

The town of Nightshade is like no other - populated by paranormals such as vampires, werewolves, psychics, and ghosts as well as humans. Mostly, the citizens get along, and for more than 50 years a truce has been formed between the Weres and the Vamps and has held up. However, the Scourge seek to rid the town of all paranormals and are up to their old tricks.

Psychic part-time sleuth Daisy Giordano is finishing up her senior year at Nightshade High. She is fretting over her lack of college accept...more

Daisy Giordano is ready to graduate high school, but several issues interfere with the joyous time. Without any of her college acceptance letters arriving, Daisy starts to get nervous about her future plans. However, a distraction shows up. A war is starting between the vampires and the shifters, but the reasons for the conflicts don’t sit well with Daisy. Plus, the war is spilling into the Giordano home, since Rose and Daisy are dating shifters, while Poppy is dating a vampire. Daisy sets out t...more

Although it had been mentioned that Dead Is Not An Option was the 5th and last installment in the Dead Is series, I have to be honest this is the first book that I’ve read. I took the chance to read this since I was REALLY intrigued and most reviews mentioned that each book can stand alone (though it would be nice to read the series in order to know the history of the characters).

I was not lost in reading Dead Is Not An Option, since the author made recaps and references in the previous books....more

Summary:
We are back in Nightshade for the fifth installment of this fun lighthearted series. Tensions between the weres and the vampires are mounting as people are being attacked and left for dead. Daisy is attempting to figure out who is behind these attacks while at the same time trying to undo the spell that traps Lily and Balthazar in their forms as a Jukebox and a pig. She has a lot on her hands as the school year wraps up, and graduation approaches. Will she unravel the mystery in time or...more

I absolutely love this series and jumped at the chance to read it. I was expecting tonnes of mystery and excitement, in this, the final book in the Dead is series. I was not disappointed that’s for sure.
Dead is not an Option was just as good as the other books in the series and for that I’m glad. I love how the mysteries are always there and I can usually guess what’s going on about halfway into the story. I could do that with Dead is not an Option as well but there were still some surprises.

Adorable, funny, satisfying, fifth and final book in the "Dead Is" comic, paranormal, mystery series for teens

Daisy Giordano is about to graduate from high school in the quirky little town of Nightshade, but what would normally be a happy time is filled with anxiety. All of Daisy’s friends have received acceptance letters for college—including her boyfriend Ryan, who will be attending a university in another part of the country. Daisy hates the thought of being separated from him, but even if sh...more

This is the first of this series that I have read. I received a copy of this from the publisher, and I can not wait to get the four books that proceeded it! I am very curious about many things, such as where the Scourge (I think of them as the monsters who hide in your closet) came from, and the story behind Slim (Mr. Invisibility). I wish there was a bit more description about some of these fun characters (and a bit less with the kissing).

But, I really enjoyed reading this story. There is actio...more

Sometimes it's just nice to sink into a quick, sweet book. The 'Dead' series is perfect for that. 'Dead is Not An Option' is the 5th book in the series about a supernatural girl, Daisy, living in the supernatural tow of Nightshade.

Daisy anxiously awaits the arrival of her college acceptance letters while doing all those traditional senior things like prom, graduation parties, and worrying if her boyfriend will forget her when he goes off to college. And, the mystery of Lily and Bathazar's entra...more

Dead is not an option is the final book on the Dead is series.

I can say is the most action-packed, furry and bloody book. This book has made me have a soft spot for the series.

Endings always make me tear a tear or two. I did with this series, you get to know the characters, as a family. You don't want the author to stop writing their adventures. I know the series continues on a spin-off with Sean's sister Jessica. Not entirely happy or looking forward to reading, but I will. Maybe the author o...more

I really liked this book and I thought that this is a great way to end the series with Daisy. I liked the idea of a "This is NOT a prom" prom which Nightshade had at the end of the book. I think the part I enjoyed the most was the ending of the book when Circe turns Ba back into a person and Lily back to her original state. I think that this was a good way to end the book because not only did everything seem to be fixed, which it will never be in Nightsahde, but Daisy found out that Ryan wasn't...more

The Dead Is series by Marlene Perez is a cute series starring Daisy Giordano, a teen with telekinetic and telepathic abilities. She lives in Nightshade, California, a town inhabited by other paranormal-types such as vampires, witches, and werewolves. Her mother is a psychic investigator and she and her sisters have inherited her abilities. Throughout the series the Giordano sisters use their special talents to solve various of crimes and mysteries involving an anti-paranormal group called the Sc...more

I am really sad to see this series go. I have read every single book and loved it. I know that this series is not a popular one, I really wish more people knew about this series because it is good! I love characters, the plots, and the town.

Through the series I have seen Daisy grow. Not only as a person but as a friend, girlfriend, daughter and a learning psychic. She has gone above anything else, putting everyone else before her self. She helped out people when they needed it and she has been t...more

I’m a fan of the “Dead Is” series and each individual book’s quick read pacing. This is definitely a beach read for those of us that like our books a little darker. This is book 5 of the series and while I wouldn’t recommend reading it without having read the other 4 books, it is possible to understand everything that is going on in this one on its own. The other books just make for a more complete picture, as most in a series will do. Dead is Not an Option isn’t my favorite in the series as I f...more

Dead is not an Option by Marlene Perez is the fifth and final book of the Dead Is series centering around Daisy Giordano and her family and friends.

In Nightshade, an intense vampire and shifter war is going on and are vampire and shifter attacks. This not only splits the town of Nightshade into factions, but it also splits the Giordano sisters because Daisy and Rose both date weres while Poppy is seeing a vampire.

Daisy also is close to graduating and has ye...more

In a word, this book was abbreviated. It's like having a bored teenager tell you a story as quickly as possible, and the only two things that interest that teenager are food and clothes. The books reads like: skim skip skim extreme detail of everyone's clothing skim skip skim intricate detail of food preparation. Near the end of the book, I was suprised to discover that the main character is tall. In fact, I really didn't know what anyone looked like nor most of the places they went. The story i...more

Underwhelming. The characters seemed to have changed from past books, and if anything they are more flat than previously. The more intimate interactions have also become more awkward than adorable.

Fast paced action that was, at times, abrupt. All of a sudden this happened. Then all of a sudden that happened. But there was no hullabaloo, and no one really cared.
The twist could be considered a surprise, if you weren't paying a lot of attention. Perez, as a rule, makes it pretty obvious who the s...more

Is Wolfie up to his old tricks again or something bigger going on? Who would have thought Count Dracul would be the one to make Circe play nice? I never would have fingered the right man for head of the Scourge? And a death in "the family" really caught me off guard. The end however still felt a bit anti-climatic (lowering my rating for 4 to 3 stars).

Perez delivers again with some good old fashion, true to high school characters and not so true to high school adventures in the paranormal town of...more

This is such a fun series, and I gulped this final book up in 2 sittings flat. I am truely going to missing having any more of these stories however Im looking forward to the spinoff series to be released in 2012!

I found this to be an ok book. I liked the Death by Bikini book to be better. This one did a lot more telling than showing in the writing. It is a good reluctant reader pick, but not a "great" book in my opinion.

"Author Perez takes a darker turn in her "Dead Is" series with this fifth novel that centers on psychic sleuth Daisy Giordano and the conflict between vampires and werewolves in the town of Nightshade. It's spring of her senior year, and Daisy's attention is focused on getting into colle...more

Strange things are happening again in Nightshade, especially with her friend Sam and Sam's father, who was her dad's partner at the University. Daisy Giordano is back with her psychic abilities to help protect Nightshade from the Scourge, a group that wants to get rid of all paranormals. In this installment, Daisy has a ton of pressures going on: there are growing tensions between the werewolves and the vampires that could destroy the town if boils over, she is still trying to undo the enchantment that Circe placed on Lil and Bartholemew and she has not received any college acceptance letters yet while all of her friends have.
