Shelves: non-fiction
This is a fantastic story: the history of the highlands has many unique characters and interesting events. Unfortunately, this book suffers from some of the worst writing I've ever tried to plow through. Trying to figure out a logical story out of the jumping around between times and clans and dates and obscure familial and political connections, I can only conclude that it would be easier to do primary source research myself than to try to understand Highland history by reading this book. Overwhelming and hard to follow. Probably would have been better for someone who already has a pretty good grasp of Scottish history.

a beautiful coffee table book. many photos, illustrations, drawings...And a very brief history of Scotland, primarily northern Scotland.

Major General Fitzroy Hew Royle Maclean, Bt, KT, CBE.

Graduate of Eton and subsequently King's College, University of Cambridge.

Veteran of WWII. In 1941, he chose to enlist as a private in the Cameron Highlanders, but was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant the same year. He was one of the earliest members of the elite SAS. By the end of the war, had risen to the rank of Brigadier.
