I can sum this up in essentially the same way I did with Luck: They have lots of adventures and kick lots of butt. And they also fall in love with each other, but Seregil has a crisis of conscience because Alec is still pretty young, and Alec is just plain confused by what he feels for Seregil, so neither of them say anything.
Saying anymore than that would spoil it if you haven't read it, really.

I liked this book even more than the first one. I enjoyed the slow growth of the relationship between Alec and Seregil. The ending left my teary-eyed again.
I understand why Flewelling spent so much time with Beka (laying the groundwork for book 3) but I would rather have had more time with Micum. It was nice to see Thero occasionally coming out of his shell.
I enjoyed the descriptions of Lord Seregil's home in Rhiminee. I like the idea of a Street of Lights. The society is not as sex...more

This volume in Flewelling's Nightrunner series delves a bit deeper into intriguing rogue Seregil's past. In fact, the back story for almost all of the characters' is revealed. It's meant to bring in some plot surprises, but nothing especially startling is told.
Like the first book, this is a solid entertaining read, and I enjoyed it, but it just didn't have that special something, that special spark that makes a book a Must Read/Must Own for me. I am happy that small progress has been made in...more

This one was as good, if not better, than the first one.
The plot is a bit darker, but very gripping and exciting. My love for the characters, the world and... basically everything about this book and the series in general continues.
I often found myself literally on the edge of whatever I was sitting on at the moment. I laughed and grinned and cried so many times while reading it. This is certainly not a book I would read in public (on a train, for example), unless I want ...more

No sophomore slump here. This second novel in Flewelling's Nightrunner series is every bit the equal to the first and thrillingly concludes the major story arc begun in Luck in the Shadows. Alec and Seregil are as delightful as ever, even as they are forced to battle increasingly dangerous forces for higher and higher stakes. Their relationship also grows intimate, adding a powerful and emotional dimension to their adventures. Nysander, Thero, Micum and Beka round out an excellent supporting...more

Flwewlling is an extremely competent writer. Frequently, it feels like the meticulous details of his world building gets in the way of character development and the occasionally interesting ideas that are presented. Other times, I begin to wonder if there were any interesting ideas or just cliches and platitudes. However, the narrative is well developed and the action scenes well crafted. I'm not sure why the last few chapters are there, but I'm sure someone out there will appreciate them.

This book takes all the great things from LitS and multiplies them by a thousand. The plot picks up speed by a few hundred miles per hour and comes together perfectly, Seregil and Alec oh-so-slowly realize their gay fairy love, and there is angst that will rip your heart out. I probably cried for a hundred pages straight. But it's the good angst, the kind that makes it that much better when the heroes come out relatively okay.
Consider this book highly recommended.

Oh, so good.
I started reading this book and blew off everything else in my life because I had to know what was going to happen. This series is addictive, and the second book was still strongly written, well balanced, and wonderful.
And, honestly, while filled with beauty and adventure, these books also offer a brilliant thread of darkness and the macabre.
Wonderfully executed.

This is the second installment in the Nightrunner series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit better than the first. Lord Seregil of Rhiminee and his apprentice, Alec of Kerry continue their undercover work, meet a new circle of friends, and get embroiled in a new set of adventures and intrigue. The characterization is excellent and the story continues to be riveting. A series well worth reading!

While I truly enjoyed Luck in the Shadows more, this novel gives quite a bit more insight into the world and characters as they suffer and squirm. While I'm not much one for stories with fate in them, Flewelling pulls it off in a way that it seems like things can still fail horribly, and even victory comes at a terrible price.

The conclusion of the big quest from the first book Luck in the Shadows, Stalking Darkness continues to build the characters and the world they live in. The book starts off the same fun, yet dark adventure, but then gets darker and darker as war comes and the characters put their training to use. Not all is happy and ends well.

Seregil and Alec are one of my favorite gay couples in literature. In this second book in the series, they finally confront their feelings for each other, but not in a way that at all gets in the way of the plot. What a refreshing difference from many other books I have read!

This is arguably Lynn Flewelling's best book (though I might personally prefer The Bone Doll's Twin --it's a toss up) but I think this series is a little uneven.
But great characters and very exciting storyline in the middle book

The first several chapters of this book read like pure fanfic -- and I mean that as a complement. Re-reading the first three in this series in preparation for the recently-published Shadows Return.

Also one of the best books ever written. It's pretty much the first one continued, but with more depth and mystery. It's a perfect book to just spend the time not really caring about the rest of the world with.

Second book of a series and still very good. A little darker perhaps. Everything that I said about the first book applies. The quality does not go down and the book just does not allow you to put it down.

I really loved the first book in this series. But this one is my favorite. We really get to know the main characters and how they fit into the world.
So wonderful.
