I am really enjoying this series. I like the fact that the back story has evolved and changed in this book, the 4th of the series. I find that I get bored with series that don't vary the story that links the individual books together.

In this series, as in most I read, I find that I am somewhat drawn to the villains--kind of like those you love to hate (of course the good guys too). I did not feel that way towards the villains in this book. Take Jin for instance. From the description on the jack...more

As their investigations lead them to a fetish club it is up to Riley to infiltrate the club and track down the murderer.

Dangerous Games is the fourth book in the Riley Jenson series and although this probably could be read first as the main background plot has started a new storyline I would recommend reading the series in order so you know the history of the characters. I'm really enjoying this series though & would recommend it to any urban fantasy fan. To give a slight warning though - Riley is a werewolf with a strong sexual appetite who has several regular partners and also uses sex in her role as a Guardian to gain information about her enemies. If that is going to be something that bothers you then I'd suggest skipping this series but I would definitely recommend trying Keri Arthur's Nikki & Michael series or Spook Squad series instead.

I really love Riley Jenson - she is one of my favorite urban fantasy characters - she knows what & who she is and makes no apologies for her werewolf nature. She didn't ask to become a Guardian and parts of the job do bother her but since she was forced into her role she is determined to make the best of it. Her character has been through a lot since the beginning of the series with betrayals from people she trusted and physical changes after she was given experimental drugs. I'm finding it really interesting seeing how her psychic abilities are changing and am curious to see what abilities she will gain next.

I loved Quinn in the first book but since then he has been really irritating me with his refusal to accept Riley the way she is. He says he loves her but the way he is constantly trying to change her has been getting on my nerves for a while now. I think they could be a good couple if only he'd learn to accept her but I'd got to the point where I felt enough was enough - I was very pleased to see Riley coming to the same conclusion in this installment. For once she refused to listen to her hormones (that will always draw her to Quinn) and put her foot down. I think we'll probably see more of Quinn in the future but I hope he has a change of attitude in the meantime!

I would have liked to have seen a bit more of her other regular partner, alpha werewolf Kellen, in this installment but I can understand why that wasn't possible with the storyline. The mystery surrounding the murders moves along at a good pace and kept me interested. I'd say this is probably one of my favorite books in the series so far and it's left me looking forward to reading book five Embraced by Darkness.(less)

La componente romantica sta avendo un brusco calo e mi sa che andrà a calare sempre più.
La trama è avvincente, coinvolge il lettore e gli fa battere il cuore perchè non riesce a capire come la nostra eroina si barcamenerà tra tutti i pericoli e gli intrighi nei quali è coinvolta.
Certo su Quinn finalmente abbiamo scoperto qualcosa ma no è abbastanza per Riley così lo "lascia" se così si può direin beneficio di Kellen...ma seriamente quanto durerà questo distacco???

What is this 1 thing you ask? What has toppled the Princess of Puke? Sure… I’ll tell you, it’s rough sex, and “Dangerous Games” was full of it.

What is this 1 thing you ask? What has toppled the Princess of Puke? Sure… I’ll tell you, it’s rough sex, and “Dangerous Games” was full of it.

Normally I can look past the misguided intentions of an author’s warped mind but this time I just couldn’t ignore my inner voice. (It was loud… very loud…as in take-no-prisoners-shut-the-stupid-book-you-dope loud.) I wanted nothing more than to clip large unnecessary sections from this book and feed them (forcefully) to the editor that green checked them through.

Riley, in all her Dhampir, Directorate Guardian glory is at it again. Her nemesis, whom escaped in the finale of the previous book is on the hunt, and she is his target. While trudging on with her everyday duties of “bad-man” hunting, she finds herself trapped in a weird torture circle. Quinn is of course there, being as pouty as ever (due to Riley’s inability to never follow directions) and as a result does the vampire hoodoo-voodoo on her and uses compulsion to force her skinny butt home. (Not such a good idea if you catch my drift) Lie after lie puts Riley in the most dangerous situation she has ever found herself…facing down a 3 headed dragon, the father of all evil, and ultimately making her question EVERYTHING about her current life path.

Fighting ensues and blood is spilled…but the most interesting development in the entire book came when everything was tied up, (little red ribbon style) This particular plot line WILL NOT be strung out into book 5 (not that I’m complaining) and in the end Riley has finally cut the cord to several of her misguided flirtations.

Could this be the end of the Riley we have all grown to (reluctantly) adore? Where will this new found need to settle down leave our smart ass, vampire killing heroine? I am baffled yet intrigued. Which I guess for the author…is the whole point.

There were cute new shifter detectives, a sorceress sister, body entrapment, a new PA who is lovingly referred to as the Caramel Cow, an underground fight scene that had my brain short circuiting, several beheadings, and 1 very pissed of twin brother.

All in all I guess it was ok… if you take out the stocks and whips the OVERALL plot was actually intriguing and the “girly” lines were well written. I guess “Keri Arthur” can’t win them all…or at least not for me.

Happy reading my fellow Dhampirs and remember: you didn’t really need that finger… it was just there for decoration.(less)

Riley, per fortuna, non subisce nessun cambiamento negativo nel carattere. Non diventa una cretina tutto d'un tratto e non si lascia andare a momenti da cuore di panna senza motivo. In effetti tira fuori un lato di sé che nei libri precedenti non compare: riesce a porre dei limiti e a seguirli, anche se questi vanno contro ciò che vuole. Riesce a porre degli obiettivi a lungo termine che sa essere positivi per se stessa e a non cedere ai desideri del momento. In questo modo obbliga Quinn a prendere una posizione (o forse è meglio dire una decisione) riguardo al loro rapporto. Le loro due nature si scontrano e si arriva ad una resa dei conti molto controversa. Si capisce che la questione ha subito un cambiamento radicale, ma ancora non si capisce se è in negativo o in positivo. Quetsa rottura, quindi, determina una diminuzione consistente della componente romantica per lasciare molto spazio alla trama. Vengono introdotti i demoni, con relativa possessione demoniaca ed evocazione magica. Oltre ai vampiri e ai mannari abbiamo un nuovo elemento paranormale che, in questo caso, lascia intendere una maggiore complessità nello svolgimento della trama. Ai demoni, infatti, si ricollega il passato di Quinn creando un ulteriore motivo di screzio tra lui e Riley e altri segreti inconfessabili.
Ho apprezzato molto la presenza più massiccia del gemello Rhoan e del capo dei guardiani (di cui mi sfugge sempre il nome), e nello stesso modo non mi è dispiaciuto leggere poco di Kellen e di vedere come, tutto sommato, venga usato soprattutto come elemento di paragone con Quinn.
In linea di massima il romanzo migliora nella seconda parte, ma credo che la lentezza della prima abbia lasciato un senso di noia che non si scrolla fino alla fine. D'altronde in una serie ci sono sempre alti e bassi e questo, come basso, è decisamente sopportabile.(less)

I was pleasantly surprised with the plot of this book. I absolutely love Gautier and I'm glad he had a part in this one, though I would have liked to see more of him. Ok....So this "Riley" girl reallllllly gets under my skin. Don't get me wrong. I like her--ALOT and she really gets herself into some fantastic episodes of peril, but she's very frustrating when it comes to her werewolf status and how she percieves relationships, or "relations" for that matter.

I think I like this one the most just because we learn a lot more about Quinn and maybe because it is a little darker and mysterious. I did wonder in Tempting Evil when Quinn tells her that before he became a vamp he was human and something else that doesn’t exist. It is nice that we do learn what this is and the reasons behind it even if it puts distance between the lovers.

Dangerous Games is by far the best installment of this series to date! It’s deserving of six stars if that were possible! Oh my gosh, I have no idea how the next one is going to hold a candle to this one! Riley is even more amazing and really honing in on her inner badass. Quinn’s secret was amazing and jaw dropping! Sayangnya Gauntier berhasil lolos dan sebelom lolos dia mengajukan tantangan kepada Riley untuk menentuka siapa yang terbaik dari mereka, dan kasus yg di pilih adalah kasus pembunuhan mutilasi yang terjadi.

Saat pulang, Riley di sambut oleh Qhuinn, salah satu kekasih, old vampire, untuk makan malam dan membicarakan hubungan mereka. Namun ternyata Qhuinn di ikuti dgn mobil yg sama sejak dari bandara, dan mereka pun merencanakan untuk menangkap sang penguntit. Ternyata setelah di cegat, dalam mobil tersebut tidah ada seorang pun, sepertinya penumpang mobil tersebut lenyap begitu saja.

Saat itu Riley merasakan sesuatu di dalam gang, dan Qhuinn pun memeriksa, saat kembali Qhuinn berkata ada sesuatau yang harus di kerjakan dan membatalakan kencan mereka. walaupun Riley menawarkan bantuan, Qhuinn menolak dan mereka bertengkar. Setelah berpisah, Riley pergi ke tempat kekasihnya yang satu lg, Kellen buat menghabiskan malam berdua,.....HEYYY!!

PAgi Hari, Riley di hubungi JAck dan ada kasus yang perlu dia kerjakan. Pembunuhan pria dan wanita, pokoknya mengerikan deh, dan Riley mendapatkan petunjuk yaitu cincin berkepala 3 naga. Pergilah Riley ke klub di mana korban wanita bekerja untuk mencari info, dan di sana dia meliha seseorang memakai cincin naga berkepala 3 tersebut.

Dengan pura2 tertarik kepada pria tersebut, Riley merayu dan mengajak kencan pria tersebut dan mengetahui cincin tersebut di gunakan oleh aggota Hellion Club. Riley pun memutuskan untuk menyelidiki klub tersebut melalui pria yang dia kencani. Ternyata tanpa dia sadari kasusnya dan urusan Qhuinn adalah masalah yang sama. Namun Qhuinn berusaha menjauhkan Riley dari kasus tersebut dan meminta dia untuk mundur. Riley tidak setuju dan mereka berdua mulai bertengkar.
Yang tidak Riley ketahui, ternyata yang dia kejar adalah sesuatu yang telah ada sejak jaman kuno, sekarang hanya legenda manusia.

Sanggupkan Riley menyelesaikan kasus ini, bila yang dia hadapi adalah makhluk kegelapan jaman kuno dan juga masalahanya dengan Gauntier yang ternyata bekerja sama dengan makhluk kegelapan tersebut. Buku ini termasuk buku yang enak di baca, tapi alurnya terus bersambung dari buku pertama dan banyak perkelahian dan se** bebas di sini. Bila ingin membaca buku ini, di sarankan mulai dari buku pertama, agar kita dapat dengan jelah mengetahui kenapa Riley bisa memiliki 2 kekasih, dan gaya hidup wwerewolf yang beda dari yang biasa kita baca.(less)

Ah Riley, your character never fails to disappoint. Despite the reviews I'd read briefly online, I'm not totally won over by this book as a lot of other readers seem to be. Its by far not the best in the series, even if Riley getting the guts to say no to Quinn is the end result.

I wasn't thrilled with the bad guys in this book and I think the lack of development on their part shows that they as characters were mainly there only to facilitate Quinn's character background. This book felt more like...more

The Riley jenson series is like brain candy. There's not too much extra thought processing that I need to do. There's really no deeper level than what is actually going on in the story as you're reading it (not that I can see anyway). I don't like all of my books this way but sometimes it's a nice departure. The fourth book in the series is no different.

After the events from the last book Tempting Evil I wasn't sure where our characters would be headed. The first three novels focused on Riley an...more The Riley jenson series is like brain candy. There's not too much extra thought processing that I need to do. There's really no deeper level than what is actually going on in the story as you're reading it (not that I can see anyway). I don't like all of my books this way but sometimes it's a nice departure. The fourth book in the series is no different.

After the events from the last book Tempting Evil I wasn't sure where our characters would be headed. The first three novels focused on Riley and Co. finding out who was behind the cloning scheme. That done and out of the way, we are able to embark on new adventures. I can't tell you if this book was a "bridge" book between that ending story arc and another yet to come becuase I don't know what is to come in the remainding books in the series.

Of the series so far I would say this story is the most steeped in "mythology" I guess is the best worked to describe it. It's less about working being studied for the future (like the clones) and more about containing an old evil. Yet with that said, I think this storyline is also one of the weakest / confusing. This may stem from the fact that Keri Arthur was on new ground in regards to this series. As stated before the other novels were all following one story arc and this is the first one that branched off. That may be why the storyline seemed a bit awkward. I mean we start out the story with two potential cases and somehow they end up merging into one case. I can't even really remember how this happened. All of a sudden I found myself along with the characters all hunting the same people for the deaths of multiple women.

This story actually cuts the last thread of storylines left over from the beginning of the series. So the 5th novel should start out completely fresh with nothing being picked up (as far as the "cases" go, the relationships span the length of the series).

Maybe the storyline was meant to be second in terms of importance in this book, because the relationships seemed to be front and center. Things between Riley and Quinn finally come to a head in this novel. It's difficult to really have an opinion for me because I honestly agree with Riley's sidfe of the story, but I just really like Quinn as a character. I think he's one of the most strongly written characters of the series so far, and I enjoy every time he is on the page. On one hand I also partially agree with his side (not liking that fact that Riley sleeps with various men because of the "moon").

This book was both lighter on the sex and heavier on the sex if that makes any sense. In the previous books we have Riley sleeping with multiple people multiple time throughout that whole book. In this one we see her with Kellan (who we've come to know as now one of her regular partners) and we see her with Jin. That's all. I liked that the book seemed lighter on the sex and more focused on the people. I hope this continues in later novels because honestly we've seen Riley have sex, we know she enjoys it, it's nice to know there might be more to her relationships besides sex.

With that, however, I also said that this one was heavier on sex. Meaning that sex with Jin is the "pleasure from pain" kind of sex and honestly I didn't care for that detail at all. It was difficult to read those parts of the books (it plays a pretty significant part within the story). I was a little angry that even though it was something Riley didn't like, she did it anyway. She let herself be beaten because some guy found it hot because it would help the Directorate solve the case. Maybe we are now seeing how far Riley will go to get the job done? She does walk away from it, and at this point I was happy that she did, but then she walks right back in because Jack told her to. She didn't (at least on the page) try to tell Jack what this guy was about and that she wasn't comfortable. Either because she knew he wouldn't care (which is disturbing) or because despite her ranting of "not wanting to become like the other Guardians" she really would give up her morals to get the job done. In this regard I don't see eye to eye and I didn't care for it.

The main thing that saved this book for me was the new direction Riley and Quinn's relationship takes in this book. I'm anxious to see how it all plays out down the line. I will continue to read the series to end hopefully this was just a little bump in the road for the series and we will get back on track next time. Until then!(less)

i noticed that this book has a lot less sex than privious three books did. But do not be afraid there is still sex, lots of talking about sex and lots of thinking about sex.

It took me a while to read this one. I didn't get into it at first as I normally do, but I was very distracted with my new manga and anime obsession, sot that had a lot to do with it. The beginning of this book is extremely slow. It's like this is book 1 of a series again. There was way too much self-reflection - I don't need constant reminders that Riley is on the road to being a "full-fledged guardian" but doesn't want to be. By this point, it's kind of moot. This book in the series was not as good as the last I must admit. It was ok. The introduction of demons was great, but everyone's disbelief except for Jack and Quinn's, that they even existed was far fetched. Come on with so many other different species already out there?

OK, so this instalment was a page turner. The sex was laid on pretty thick and it wasn't all nice either.

Riley gets herself caught up in an evil god's revenge and battles the fallout practically on her own. It's nasty, evil and even pushes the fee-loving wolf to her limits.
