Drink Green Smoothies. No really. Change your life and make it happen. You'll be so happy you did. That's the message Victoria Boutenko repeats in her book Green For Life. It's a good message but the book doesn't have much more than that. This is the kind of book you pick up from the Library as you can read it quickly and get everything you need from it in one sitting.
Having said all that it's an important message Victoria Boutenko has and it's a book worth seeking out.

I like green smoothies. They are indeed tasty as this book states and definitely a health benefit. I did learn quite a bit about just how beneficial they are from this book, which I was glad to know.
But...Victoria Boutenko is kind of a weirdo. After three months of drinking green smoothies, she claims to salivate over green weeds she sees outside while taking walks with her husband and she mimicks chimpanzees she watches at the zoo by pulling the leaves off of nearly plants to e...more

i recommend this book to everyone. it is fucking awesome, packed full of info on plants (did you know that broccoli is actually a flower? and that parsley is the green top of parsnips? i did not!), nutrition and raw foods.
if you have any health problems at all and believe that what you are or are not eating may have something to do with it, read this book. it has affected me in such a positive way already. seriously, i've been drinking those green smoothies everyday and i can really...more

This book is another must-have reference book for anyone wanting to change their life by changing the way they eat. The book is all about how eating and blending greens (romaine, kale, mustard, turnip, parsley, beet, celery, cucumbers, etc.) can change your life for the better.

I learned a lot from this book and felt it was well worth the read. A simple way to add more "greens" to my diet.
It meets the needs of those who are seeking to move from a standard American diet into a healthier lifestyle, as well as those who have "been raw" for years.

Not especially well-written, but easy for anyone to understand. Her enthusiasm shines through, which is nice. There's some useful info here, especially if you're having a health crisis and want an option other than pathological medicine.
I strongly recommend reading some of the books in her bibliography, which she explains is where she got her knowledge. It's important to have a broader nutritional picture than is given in this book, so you can avoid possible nutritional defi...more

Green smoothies are the hidden gem of the culinary world! They are not only shockingly palatable, but delicious and energizing to the utmost extreme. I was a huge aficionado before reading this book, however I greatly appreciated learning the specific health benefits. Of course I new beforehand that green smoothies were healthy, but little did I know of the importance of the acid/alkaline balance of our bodies, the easy digestibility of the protein (yes, protein!) in greens, the healing nature ...more

I love these authors who are just dedicated truth-finders, imaginative and inventive on the road to finding answers (and making sure they taste good, too!)
One of my favorite books tho I have to say I'm not too persnikity anymore.
The best part is they are quick and delicious and even quicker to clean up after!

An interesting introduction to why the author finds the daily intake of ample greens to be so important to health. The recipes are OK but will probably need some modifications to fit to your tastes -- I've added apples to several recipes so they don't taste so... green.

Boutenko has the recipe for improving your health and preventing disease: Green Smoothies. She makes a very convincing argument that the average person in today's modern world is not getting enough greens in their diet. Her solution is to make green smoothies. Boutenko draws a distinction between "greens" and "vegetables". Greens can actually mix well with fruits. She advocates purchasing a high speed blender (e.g. a Vitamix) and then mixing greens (spinach, kale, lettu...more

This is a really interesting guidebook about the importance of leafy greens in one's diet. I had read it a bit last march, when I was raw, and now that I'm doing a green smoothie feast, I thought it was time to revisit it.

I learned that we can get so much more from greens than I thought-namely protein. I always knew that getting more greens was important to a healthy diet, but this book taught me how to do it easily. In the book, there are many claims about benefits of drinking greens in smoothies the author calls "green drinks"--everything from helping you lose weight to battling depression(who knows?). I tried the green drinks myself and am happy with the results I am getting because I feel like my...more

given to me by a friend as I started toying with the idea of "raw foods". I really like the idea of the "green smoothies" but it wasn't enough to make me stay "raw" for life. I guess I am still trying.

Recipes, delicious. Information, dubious. Do not attempt to read this book until you own a high-powered blender.

This author lives an extreme raw foods lifestyle and it is hard for me to believe still that she grew out of grey hair and her whole family ran a 10K just like that... but beside all of that over-convincing she does for some reason, there is good information about absorbtion of vitamins from green vegetables that makes a lot of sense in relation to stomach acid and other digestion issues. I have tried several of the sweet smoothies and they are really delicious especially with ice. I did not b...more
