Oh What a beautiful little book! So simple and so dear!
When I first read the dedication to St Francis of Assisi, my heart did a flutter- I say daily the prayer of of St Francis:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

A charming story about the persistence of a young boy and his desire/need to get his donkey cured by St Francis in the crypt under the church in Assisi -- persistence, don't accept "no" for an answer, and his sweetly innocent faith, conquer the obstacles.
I'm not religious but I found this a beautiful and enchanting story that would appeal to anyone of any age, faith or no faith at all.
A beautiful little book of love and hope. Paul Gallico writes with great brevity and clarity.
Enchanting story about a donkey and his boy
I thought this was brilliant. Enjoyed it immensly.
Small person perseverance.
