You think by the title of this book that its all the meat of it will take place in an hour.. the 37th hour. It was all in the time period of 6 days. Almost leisurely investigating which in this case wouldnt be plausable seeing as how it is her husband who is missing. I did like a lot of the way she wrote things and the words she used to describe things.. and they say that when tramatic things are happening in your life things that happened not too long ago seem like a century ago.. well Compton

Jodi Compton's The 37th Hour is a great debut novel with a hanging ending that leaves you with a great deal to ponder.
<spoiler>
How could it come to such a point where two cops, good at what they do, fine upstanding citizens both end up as suspects in murders? How could the criminal justice system let murders and rapists off on technicalities? How could a man mislead his wife so he could go and finish what the courts let get away? Sarah Pribeck and Mike Shiloh have only been m More...

Sarah Pribek specializes in missing person cases, which theoretically should come in handy when she realizes her husband has disappeared somewhere between home and Quantico, where he was meant to begin training for the FBI. It's only as she begins searching for him that she realizes just how little she has to go on. Mike Shiloh is a private man, they've only been married for two months, and she knows very little about his past that could offer up any clues.

Sarah Pribek is a detective for a Minnesota County Sheriffs' department. She investigates missing persons. But her job really hits home when she must investigate the disappearance of her husband of two months, Mike Shiloh. Mike was supposed to be in Quantico, training for the FBI, but he never arrived. As she delves into the mystery, back stories are told, particularly about her partner Genevieve who's teenage daughter was brutally raped and murdered, and the perp went free. Sarah and Mike had b

Recently promoted Detective Sara Pribeck is also a new wife. While she’s known her husband Shiloh for five years, what she doesn’t know about him probably exceeds what she does. Their marriage is only two months old when he disappears, after having encouraged her to make an overnight visit to her traumatized partner, Gen.
Naturally, Sara sets out to find her husband, and she hasn’t many clues to follow. Bit by bit, it becomes evident that the murder of partner Gen’s teenaged daughter, More...

I was pleased to find this debut novel and her sophomore title featuring the same main character, Sarah Pribek, on a recent library visit. The story was good and the characters interesting to get to know.
What was especially a treat was Compton's stellar writing; she has a beautiful knack with the language that makes reading her books a pleasure. Also enjoyable is Compton's creation of Pribek, who is not a knight-in-shining-armor protagonist. Pribek has flaws and makes mistakes and has More...

Because I live in Minnesota, I know that many of Ms. Comptons descriptions of Minnesota are fiction. For example, there is no Amtrak station in Blue Earth, girls basketball season doesn't start until November so there was no way that Gens sister Deborah was coaching a basketball game since this book took place in October. However, despite those inaccuracies, I still liked this book. It's fiction and since it's fiction anything can happen. However, one think that did bother me was that there real

I really enjoyed this first book from Jodi Compton, the main characters Sarah, Genevieve and Shiloh are sympathetic, interesting and I really want them to get away with it.
What I liked about the story is the way the author did the backstories for several characters it helped in getting to know more about the characters and why they act the way they do. More than once I thought this novel was a second or third in a series because of the depth of the background. I'm looking forward in re More...

Not a bad story. I was a bit bored in the beginning. I think if I had been reading the actual book instead of listening, I wouldn't have kept going. It picked up toward the middle and I liked the twist in the end. I never saw that one coming! I came to like Sarah in the end, but I'm not sure I liked anyone else in the book. Not even Shiloh. I'll listen to the 2nd book to finish out the series.

Awesome! This is the first of the Sarah Pribeck series and is set in Minnesota. Murder, revenge and you think you know someone. This was a wonderful, intertwined story. Great characters included Shilo, Genevive, Sara, Shilo's family and especially the Blue Earth bartender. This book was lent to me by Tanya. Thanks Tanya - I will be recommending this book to others.

A police officer specialised in missing person cases has to look for her own husband who seems to be missing without leaving a trace. Makes it very hard for Sarah to find her husband.
The reader follows her on her tedious search, where she discovers his a secret from his past. Parallel to this story line the reader learns about their shared past (how they met, what happened on the night the daughter of Sarahs partner was killed etc.).
The case is unique, but the ending some More...

Compton, Jodi – 1st book

Sarah Pribek is a missing-persons investigator. But she never though the person for whom she would be searching was her own husband, police officer Shiloh. Married only two months, when Shiloh leaves for FBI training in Quantico, but never arrives, it's up to Sarah to find him.

This was a fairly simple "who done it", but it was written well enough to keep my attention and keep me reading to see where it would end up. This is the first book for this author and I would definitely recommend it as entertainment reading.

interesting read. I liked the characters but don't think the author generated as much compassion and understandinf for them as she could have. Surprising tists at times. Liked the fact that it wasn't a neat, compact, logical ending.

This was a really good book, until the last few pages...which I re-read trying to figure out the ending, and re-read again...and still didn't understand. So a good book with a crappy unclear ending.

This is the first book by this writer, and it's a promising beginning for a series. The characters are flawed and believable, the ending is surprising, and I sure want to read the her next book.

This is a first-time book that I picked up on a whim when Carl made me go to the library and shop paperbacks . . I will definitely look for her next book!

I liked the twist at the end. The book didn't drag, but it noticeably picked up for me toward the end.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody - good story but awful dumb ending to the story! Very disappointing!

Surprised at ending. If I had read it over a shorter period of time, I think I might have figured out what was happening before I read the ending.

Good mystery, a lot of suspense, and a great twist at the end of the story.
