The Insider is a gripping novel; I had trouble putting it down every time I opened it. The characters were well developed, and the imagery was so vivid that I felt like I was right there with Will, running from the mafiya while trying to maintain my innocence. Very witty and smart. Hirsch obviously put a lot of time into creating his story and doing his research. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes suspenseful novels. [Disclaimer: I won a free copy through Good Reads.]

I won this book through the First Reads giveaways. The book was alright, though I found it to be a little stiff. It just didn't pull me in that much, and I found that a lot of things were coming together a little too easily, and it was hard to suspend my disbelief. It just didn't really feel like anyone was really ever in any real danger.

This is an excellent book, captured my attention right away and it just kept going and going. A book that I did not want to put down.

This book started off with a "BANG" with a suicide by a man jumping out of a high-rise window.
From that point on it was a real page-turner that I di not put down until I finished it. THe plot conitines to grow and there were many twists and turns that kept you wanting to find out what happens. I had read another review that someone mentioned that they tought it was "too legalistic" in some spots. I did not find that to be the case. It certainly did not bore me at all, and I would think it would...more

Dramatic...from point a to b, Reece Hirsch's novel The Insider is the ultimate legal thriller. A very fast paced novel, main character lawyer Will Connelly has his work cut out for him as he is named as the lead partner in a merger transaction that turns his world upside down.

Will's colleague plummets to his death but has no idea how entangled his life is about to become when he takes over for that very same colleague. Celebrating his just confirmed partnership, Will decides to celebrates and ac...more

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. The Insider is a fast-paced legal thriller. It is well written with plenty of action, suspense, and surprising twists. The main character, Will Connelly, is a likeable lead facing murder, insider-trading, the Russian mob, and a terrorist plot. The action starts fast and doesn't let up until the very end. Overall it was very enjoyable and I look forward to reading more from Mr. Hirsch in the future.

I throughly enjoyed this book. It is a quick read with a very likeable character. Will Connelly is an attorney who has just made partner at his firm, when all hell breaks loose! I sometimes questioned Will's decisions as I read through the novel, but by the end learned that Will is very sharp.

The mafiya characters are very believeable and the story has a real twist to the ending. "The Insider" is a terrific thriller and I look forward to Reece Hirsch's next book!

This was an enjoyable read from beginning to end. The action starts right away in this book and keeps you lured in until the end. I won't soon forget about Will and his misfortunes throughout the story! One thing after another, so many angles and possibilities, it was definitely an adventure I could see turned into a film. I cannot recall the last time I read a book that involved the Russian Mafiya and these characters were a refreshing addition to this story. I was able to form quite the images...more

I received a copy of this book as a giveaway on Goodreads. I have to be honest when saying that legal thrillers really aren't a genre I generally want to get my hands on. I started this book expecting it to be so so.
I tell you though, I should stop judging a book before I read it! This book was really good. Page after page it surprised me with action around every turn. Just when you think things are calming down in the storyline, Will gets into an even bigger predicament.

One thing that seems t...more

The Insider, a real action thriller set in the world of corporate espionage. I enjoyed this book and it is a relatively quick book to read. The main character is likeable and fairly believable. Will Connelly is an attorney who has just made partner in his law firm when all hell breaks loose. A colleague takes a header off of their office building right past Will’s window. It seems that the dead man had tried to call Will earlier and somehow Will’s keycard was switched with the dead colleague too...more

This was surprisingly good! I don't mean that it was badly written or anything, but I wasn't sure if I would like the legal/mob thriller but I really did! I got this book as a Goodreads first reads and I am glad I did.
Will is an attorney with a high powered law firm and can't believe it when he sees a co worker, Ben, falling/jumped/pushed off the roof, he watches in horror as Ben falls past his window. Soon after that Will is plunged into the world of the Russian Mob, insider trading, murder sus...more

My thoughts:

I think this book was very suspenseful, and had some good twists and turns that I didn't expect. It was an interesting, and very quick read. The character of Will was well done, and quite developed. In fact, he reminded me of people that I work with. It spoke volumes to me that I could relate to and appreciate Will. He seemed so realistic.

The Insider kept my attention from the start, and it was hard to put down. The ending was fantastic, and not at ALL like I thought it would happen...more

I really enjoyed this debut legal thriller. The inevitable comparison is to Grisham, of course, because of the lawyer-in-trouble-against-other-dirty-lawyers thing. And while the style is reminiscent, it's very unique.

Overall, I thought "The Insider" was well paced and had believable and likable characters. I work with a number of Russians and thought that Hirsch nailed Yuri and Nikolai's manner of speech. I was also impressed with the twist at the end. There were some places in the middle where...more

Will Connelly's, corporate attorney, life has been turned upside down starting with the death of a friend and colleague of whom he witnesses falling from outside his office window. Will must set aside his grief because he has just made partner and focus on his first task of leading negotiations in the merger of a new software company. Will is not prepared for the series of events following that will completely change his life.

THE INSIDER by Reece Hirsch with its multiple story aspects ranges from legal thriller to murder mystery to an action packed adventure reminiscent of a theatrical release depicting the heros race against the clock/conspiracy theory saga and could be compared to digging into a seven layer dip at a pool party and discovering how many different and exciting flavors are contained in one simple dish.

The base of author Hirsch's concoction is a large San Francisco corporate law firm, employer to a youn...more

This is my first delve into the legal thriller genre, and I really enjoyed it. For starters, I haven't had as much time to invest in reading over the past few weeks as I'd like to, but I found myself eyeballing the book from time to time wishing I could stop working to open it up. I also often brought it with me places just in case I found myself at a long red light.

The story was full of intrigue and suspense and the "bad guy" was not who I thought it would be, but is it ever? I enjoyed all of...more

The Insider is an excellent legal thriller debut. The packaging in itself is slick and professional and I admire the work being put into its marketing. Reece Hirsch may well be on the road to becoming a popular, mass market writer.

One of the most positive qualities of the novel is in the page-turning style and pace. It is a quick read, with a satisfying conclusion. The writing is clear and competent, but I noticed a few novice writer-ly quirks (being familiar with them as I am from my own attem...more

So, I was really upset that my Kindle died during my reading of this book and I couldnt find the charger for a few days! Once I got through that issue, I was able to continue enjoying this novel. It hooked me from the beginning. From the start, this novel captivated me. It wasnt one of those books you have to give 30 pages to in order to get hooked. It was well written and portrayed in a very real, heart pounding way. This is a story that could happen. The main character was well developed as mu...more

I'm not sure why I don't seek out more legal thrillers, because every time I read one, I really enjoy it. The Insider was no exception, with its tightly-written, fast-paced prose and well-formulated cast of characters. Will is on the cusp of making partner at his corporate law firm when he is thrust into handing over insider secrets about the latest merger of two major corporations to the Russian mafia. He is a captivating character, even if I did shake my head at him a few times, and the reader...more

My Opinion:

"The Insider" by Reece Hirsch is amazing. I love a good suspense/thriller/mystery book. This book doesn't disappoint. Reece takes us on a journey through Will Connelly's life as it becomes upside down once he sees a co-worker fall off the building he works in. There are quite a few lines that will have you laughing. He details it so well I could envision being there with Will. This is a must read if you like thrillers.

Reece Hirsch writes a entertaining thriller that is well written an...more

I received this book in a giveaway and have finally had the time to actually review it. Sorry it took so long! I finished a long list of books and thought I'd do a review for this one first.

It completely deserves praise. It's a short, quick-paced read. As a debut novel, it's very compelling and I am so glad that it isn't completely cliche or predictable. Just like any thriller, there's one major twist. Although, I can usually predict it, and this one took me by surprise. My only qualms is with t...more

"The Insider" by Reece Hirsch is a fine specimen of a legal thriller. Fast paced, action packed, suspenseful till the end, and thoroughly enjoyable, "The Insider" is a riveting ride into the world of Will Connelly, who finds his world imploding as he witnesses a fellow attorney plunge to his death in front of his eyes. If I had not read the author's biography, and known that this was his first novel, I would never have guessed so.

The book is an easy read, always titillating in its sense of humo...more

I received this first reads book sometime back. I have never read legal fiction and thought this would be a good time to start. Mr. Hirsch's writing is smooth from the first line and clips right along. In the space of one day corporate attorney Will Connelly: sees a colleague fall to his death, maybe set-up as the killer, takes over merger plans, make partner, gets drunk, picks up a Russian woman in a bar, sleeps with her and gets threatened by the Russian mob. I'm thinking "how dumb can you get...more

Reece Hirsch’s book “The Insider”is a wonderful read and I recommend it with great enthusiasm. There's not much more that you ask for in a fast paced thriller than what Reece Hirsch has given us in this book. From the opening where a young attorney watched a fellow attorney plummet to the earth out of a multi storied San Francisco law office to the cold and dark parking garages near the ocean, this book was filled with suspense, terror, intrigue, and a bit of light romance. Hirsch struck just th...more
