Gingerbread Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke
Hannah Swensen is at it again. Her neighbor is being obnoxious, leaving music on, loudly, at all hours of the night and now he's added a light show. A very bright light show. But is that worth murdering him over? It could be that or it could be that the recently divorced even more recent lottery winner could have other enemies. But never fear, Hannah is on the case.

I listened to this book on cd. It is actually three books in one--three different authors all writing about gingerbread cookies mystery theme. First is Joanne Fluke's heroine Hannah Swensen, then Laura Levine's Jaine Austen and finally, Leslie Meier's Lucy Stone.
I will review the middle book which is actually entitled "The dangers of gingerbread cookies" starring Jaine Austen, who writes ads for an LA plumbing company "In a rush to flush..." among other. I love Jaine--she is a thirty something n...more

Average rating 3.33 stars.
Flukes story was the usual offering plenty of recipes and the story dragged out a bit. Hannah once again finds a body this time it is her neighbor and solves the murder pretty quickly. However, the killers identity is easy to figure out early on so I found the rest of the story to be fluff. 3.0 Stars.
Levine's story was the winner here. Funny and quick paced. Janie is visiting her parents for Christmas and when a Tampa Vistas resident is killed Janie tries to solve the...more

I think short story mysteries are normally not good. I enjoy Joanne Fluke and have never read the other authors and never will.
Fluke always has a death that poor Hannah stumbles upon and I enjoy for the most part. This one seemed rushed, but was decent. On a recipe note, I usually like 7-10 dessert recipes from Hannah Swensen, but I usually steer clear of the other recipes since they are a little pedestrian to me.

Sometimes I just like reading fluff. I don't want to have to think. This collection of short novels fit the bill perfectly. They are sort of the equivalent of the ABC Family Christmas movies in terms of complexity. These three stories all centered around the common holiday theme of gingerbread cookies. I have to give credit to these authors - they were all able to link small town murders to gingerbread cookies, each in their own way. The idea is pretty creative.

This is an anthology of gingerbread related short novellas.
I enjoy reading Joanne Fluke because her heroine has a Cookie bakery and 2 boyfriends. She also includes recipes for some of the goodies she sells in her shop. She is always finding bodies in her frozen hometown of Lake Eden, Minnesota. This story is no different although Hannah is not a suspect even though several of her gingerbread cookies are found with the body when her neighbor is found with his outdoor music blaring and annoying t...more

This book has three different stories by three different authors, Gingerbread cookie murder by Joanne Fluke, When Hannah finds her neighbor Ernie Kusak with his head bashed in in his condo and a box of upended gingerbread cookies on the floor . Hannah finds herself with a suspects list as long as her shopping list. the second story is by author Laura Levine The danger of ginger bread cookies. This book consists of three stories by three authors - Joanne Fluke, Laura Levine and Leslie Meier. I am a huge Joanne Fluke fan so I couldn't wait to read this book (if you haven't noticed I have gotten a little bored with juvenile books). Last time I got one of these sorts of books with Joanne Fluke I just read her story and returned the book to the library. However, what I have waiting for me is juvenile literature so I thought I would read the remaining 2 stories. They were wonderful.

Reading the Fluke short story of this holiday combo, which has enough pages that it will count for my "read a mystery" for March! The short story wings through the action REALLY fast. This was nice in getting the story going, though felt a bit rushed. Of course, it also makes me think that the longer works can be pretty dragged out. And the shorter work makes her favorite and way-too-often-repeated phrasings even more obvious!

Apparently murder is part of the holiday season since we have three authors who compiled stories of mayhem during Christmas. I don’t usually think of mysteries with Christmas, but having humorous characters and situations almost made me forget about the odd combination. Like adding salt to cookies for extra flavor. Of course, too much salt will obviously ruin a batch...

I know, I know, I said that I wasn't going to read any more books by Joanne Fluke, but hey, this is a Christmas book. Three novellas comprise this book by three different authors and, apparently, murder runs rampant during the holidays--just a warning so that you can be on your guard. In the "Gingerbreak Cookie Murder" Hannah Swensen finds her neighbor--who had been blasting Christmas music for days--with his head bashed in. I'm not sure, but a good attorney might be able to argue justifiable ho...more
I hardly read books of short stories because I like novels with drawn out plot turns and details. But when I found out that 3 of my favorite authors were in one book, I couldn't wait to read it.
The first story, from Joanne Fluke, is about Hannah Swenson and her ever-going-on argument with neighbor Ernie Kusak and his Christmas music. But when she goes over there to talk to him about it, she finds him dead. So now Hannah, with the rest of Lake Eden, try to find out who could have killed Ernie. I...more

A few years ago I read another collection of holiday mystery stories that these three authors put together, so I was interested in reading this new one.
Gingerbread Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke: This was the best one, I thought. Hannah's neighbor keeps blasting Christmas music, so bad that the cops come and she finds the neighbor dead. So she plays detective to find out who killed him. The reason for the killing was actually a pretty decent reason. The thing that annoys me with the Hannah books,...more

This book contains novellas/short stories by three different authors.
The first story is Gingerbread Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. It fits in the series between Apple Turnover Murder and Devil's Food Cake Murder. Overall, it was a decent story and a fairly quick and easy read. It was also fairly easy to figure out who the killer was.

Merged review:
Gingerbread Cookies and Gunshots by Leslie Meier - two stars

Gingerbread Cookie Murder is actually 3 stories in one book. Overall I'd give it 3 stars. It's light and mindless, which makes it a fun read.
Individual scores:
"Gingerbread Cookie Murder" 3 stars: It's the usual from Fluke and it works. A tad more predicatable than her other stories but the recipes are fun and I like the Hannah character.

I bought this book for two reasons: One is part of the $1 deal on my kindle and two I was looking for something fun to read for Christmas. I'm glad I got this.
This really is a cute, light, christmassy read for the holidays. I was able to read it in one day and I had fun doing it. This book is a collection of three novella's all dealing with Christmas mysteries.

In this collection of three novellas, I liked one out of three. The first story was by a favorite author, Joanne Fluke, who writes murder mysteries with a cookie baker as the detective. I liked that story a lot, though I wish they had included the recipes as usual. There's something soothing about having a recipe read aloud. The second story I probably would have enjoyed if I'd read it in print, not listened to it. The reader was one of those who, for unknown reasons, reads as if through barely...more
I only read Fluke's contribution to this holiday collection. It was short. It was sweet. It was tasty. As always, I have a bunch of great ideas for cookies and other food too. I've enjoyed how Fluke is incorporating meal recipes into her stories now and not just cookies. And as I have found, they are almost always delicious. If you follow this series, I'll simply say that nothing was done about the cliffhanger at the end of the last book but it didn't really bother me. The mystery was easier tha...more
Since this book is three stories by three different authors all having to do with gingerbread cookies and murder, the best way yo review this book would be to review each individual story.
Story #1 The Gingerbread Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke:

Gingerbread Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke was pretty good. I liked the humor and mystery in one thing. This was the first book from this series I have read and I will definitely read more now. I would read this book again and I liked the ametuer detective thing. The Dangers of Gingerbread Cookies by Laura Levine was pretty good too. There was some good humor in it. I wouldn't have ever suspected. :) I would read this again, but more as to pass the time. Gingerbread Cookies and Gunshots by Leslie...more
Christmas time is usually when we slow down, but not until after the shopping, cooking, baking, and cleaning are done. For those of us in the snow-trapped northern states the best view of winter is when you're looking out the window as you read a cozy book and enjoy some tea or cocoa. Gingerbread Cookie Murder is the perfect book for a slow winter day. While the stories are short, and the intricacies normally found in cozy mysteries is not as fleshed out as one would expect from these three auth...more
This book is actually 3 novellas by three different authors, all of whom write cozies. I have read the entire series by Joanne Fluke and enjoy the characters of Hannah, her sisters, her mother, and her boyfriends. I have read one book by Leslie Meier and also enjoy Lucy and her family. I had never read anything by Laura Lavine, but this section was downright LOL! I'm pretty sure I will be reading her series, also.

Gingerbread Cookie Murder/Fluke --- I didn’t care for this one, skimmed through it and just didn’t like.
The Danger of Gingerbread Cookies/Levine --- I was so delighted that Janine and her cat Prozac were vising her parents in FL for Christmas, was a cute short novelette. I have read all of her novels and she’s better at full books instead of short ones!

This is an extremely short murder mystery with many of the pages dedicated to recipes. Fluke does a wonderful job with the recipes; each recipe has specific instructions and many hints. The murder centered on a winning lottery ticket and the rightful owner of that ticket. Hannah, the owner of a cookie shop, loves to solve murder investigations. Hannah juggles dating between a policeman and a dentist, and both men aid in Hannah's jaunts. The series by Isis Crawford contains better characters and...more
Having just read the earlier anthology by these same three authors I knew I was in for at treat. I was not disappointed at all.
This time the common thread was Gingerbread Cookie Men. Again, each Author used her unique characters to write compelling mysteries.
Hannah Swensen gives us yummy recipes while we help her solve the mystery, funny as she doesn't seem to need our help at all.
Jaine Austen has an inner dialog that keeps the reader chuckling along as we come to her aid.

This is 3 stories by 3 women authors for which I've had the pleasure of reading their books at one time or another.
The first--a Hannah Swensen story seemed like she tried to quickly write a Christmas story around about 10 recipes or so. I've read her books on the past and was disappointed by this story
The other 2 were by the authors of the Jaine Austen and Lucy Stone writers. Thank goodness their stories were stories and just long enough not to be boring yet not surrounded by recipes

This anthology was a bit hit and miss. I'd probably rate it a 3.5/5
The first story by Joanne Fluke was a Hannah Swensen Christmas, through and through. Cats, cookies and mayhem! Plus, the recipes sounded delicious.
I also enjoyed Jaine Austen, her cat and her problematic parents as well as the entire cast of crazy brought to you by the finest retirement community you can find. This was zany madcap murder mystery-solving.

GINGERBREAD COOKIE MURDER - I have decided that, for the most part, I am not a fan of the cozy mystery. I read the first Hannah Swensen book and enjoyed it. I picked this up from a freebie table and saved it to read at Christmas. If this is the 13.5 book og the series, I am so glad I never bothered to read any others. The "love" triangle between Hannah, Norman (dumb dentist) and Mike (dumb cop) is a bust. I guessed who done it about a third of the way into to book. Someone had ripped out 4 pages...more

Like Hannah Swensen, Joanne Fluke grew up in a small town in rural Minnesota where her neighbors were friendly, the winters were fierce, and the biggest scandal was the spotting of unidentified male undergarments on a young widow's clothesline. She insists that there really are 10,000 lakes and the mosquito is NOT the state bird.
