I thought that I would like this book because of what I mistakenly took to be the topic. I thought that, in Thrift, the author would lament the rise of consumer and corporate culture and make a case for the revival of thrift among consumerist societies. However, the author didn't do this. Sometimes, he skirted the edges of America's consumerist problems. But most of the discussion of who should be thrifty was aimed at developing countries.
