Alejandro ...more

Sexual fantasies and adventures of the main character intended to warm up the plot sometimes really saved me from yawing. But still too much sex and lack of criminal suspense in the story. That's not too bad, the main ingredients of cooking a good detective story are quite right, but the proportions are a bit strange!

One thing that saves the whole story for me is the mood of Venice! It's doom, gloom and glitter, mixed with lies, art and money, dressed up in blood and muddy waters. All this makes

Loppua kohden kuitenkin se alkoi hieman ...more

Mid 2. The author and his novel get bogged down in tortuous descriptions of the protagonist's reactions to the setting of a Venice braving the onset of the rising waters of the lagoon, and of the sexual yearnings for any female character the protagonist encounters. The premise of a mystery surrounding a famous Giogione canvas, which shares the name of the title of the novel, is subsumed under these banalities. Having read a previous work by de Prada in its original Spanish, this was a bitter dis ...more

What could have been a charming trip through Venice and the world of art forgery, becomes boring due to the author's obsessions and endless show-off metaphors. I finished it out of a sense of duty, since I wanted to see whether its ending would somehow "reward" me for my time, but that wasn't exactly the case, sadly.

you know the kind of person, who just talks about themselves constantly, and says nothing?
l put this book in the bin, after painstakingly reading it to half way, hoping it might say something.
lt went on about nothing.

This book was kind of random and at times strangely over-sexual. It is possible, however, that it just seemed that way to me b/c it was in French. Meh, at least I finished it....

If you like the atmosphere of Titian and Venice, this is a good novel. I think it lacks some strength to the plot, but entertaining.
