In New York, people were supposed to ignore their neighbours. But that was a rule that Cybil Campbell had never learned. When the sunny brunette knocks on her new neighbour's door, she expected that they would make a connection - after all, she knew everyone else in the apartment block. Preston McQuinn wasn't interested in small talk. He was in Manhattan to finish a job an...more

I discovered Nora Roberts' books my freshman year in college. Rather, my college roommate forced them on me and I devoured almost her entire catalog and still continue to do so. To this day, we have really great conversations that go something like this:

F: Oh! She is a MacGregor. Her mom was the woman with the broken-down car that married...
M: The recluse cartoonist in Maine! Right! But what about that piano one?
F: The piano player with the red-headed Stanislaski daughter?
M: Oh right, that's Wa...more

The MacGregor Serisinden bir hikaye daha. Daniel MacGregor sen inanılmaz bir adamsın. Her şeyi ayarlayıp gerisini doğa kanuna bırakıyorsun.

The last installment in one of my favorite series. I'm really sorry to see it end, but c'est la vie.

SERIES/STAND ALONE: #11 in MacGregor series

TIME/PLACE: 1999/NYC
CHARACTERS: Cybil Campbell/artist -- writes/draws a newspaper comic strip; Preston McQuinn

FIRST LINES: "So…have you talked to him yet?"

COMMENTS: Even tho' this considered the last (#11) in the MacGregor series it reads very well as a stand-alone. A nice romance between a very outgoing woman...more

The main character was just too much. Very self centered and always the victim. I didn't like that. I hated that Preston always ended up groveling when he wasn't the bad guy. Cybill over stayed, created situations, then didn't like the outcome. I love the McGregor Series... This one, probably the least.

When the sunny brunette knocks on her new neighbour's door, she expected that they would make a connection - after all, she knew everyone else in the apartment block. Preston McQuinn wasn't interested in small talk. He was in Manhattan to finish a job and leave as quickly as possible - until Cybil's sweet nature and big green eyes captured his interest. I enjoyed the MacGregor stories, no surprises here, but good quick romantic read.

I am putting this in the "borrowed from friends and family" because technically I bought this book for my friend Joy and just haven't gotten around to giving to her [probably because it was buried in a bag full of books from the last library sale and I had totally forgotten about it], so I thought I would read it again before getting it off to her.
For some reason I LOVE The McGregors and I REALLY love this book. So it was an excellent re-read. I really need to get back to reading what I was li...more

For Nora Roberts this must be one of her in-between books because it wasn’t her high standard I’ve enjoyed in the past. I know she’s a very prolific writer, having around 2 to 4 books published a year.
You see, I don’t know about that, because in the end it’s about quality and not quantity. This author writes so many books that – in the end - there are more than a few of her books out there that aren’t outstanding or original. I think the quality of her delivered work is starting to suffer. This...more

:...more

I loved this book. Nora Roberts really delivered it this time, just like every other time. I'm a big fan of hers.
Its a story about Preston, Mr. Mysterious as Cybil call him till she finally gets him to tell her his name, and Cybil, bubbly girl next door. Preston moved in a apartment complex in New York temp. till his house gets finished. Cybil stops by with cookies to welcome him into the building, but he ends up being really rude to her and he basically slams the door in her face....She thinks...more

This story is part of the MacGregor series. Cybil Campbell is only related by marriage to the family but that doesn't seem to matter. This story follows the idea of the MacGregor Brides / Grooms in which Daniel finds the perfect person and puts them in his grandchild's radius and lets things happen.

This was a fun story and romance. I liked Preston and his issues were real and justified based on an horrific personal experience in his past. When you get the whole story you understand his actions....more

Okay so there were some good LOL moments in it, which is why it gets 3 stars. I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts books simply because they make great mindless brain fluff reads that help me pass the time when I'm not in the mood for more complex story lines. Unfortunately once you've read a few of Roberts books you've basically read them all, highly predictable and yet I still read them! I think if she shortened these stories so they didn't needlessly drag on for ages to the end it would pack a bette...more

Oh wow. I finally finished the macgregor series. Reading the series from book one has been such a fun time for me. Although i am a bit disappointed at how the author didn't give us a peek at how the characters have gone through with their lives, buy in each spin-off book we got a glimpse at the original characters and how they are all happily married with their respective others.

Another great entry to the McGregor series.

Fab read. Thoroughly enjoyed it.. Nice and light hearted x

This has to be my favorite book series of all time (so far). Nora Roberts out did herself with this series. You start off with one generation and leads you into the next. This is an eleven story series(not eleven books). By the end of the series you are sad that it has to end. Your heart is so attached to the characters that you just don't want it to end. You would not regret reading this series.

Cybil Campbell is an exquisite ball of sunshine. She has a plethora of friends and has a less the successful love life. Preston McQuinn is a loner, by choice. He does not like to be bothered and likes to remain in the emptiness of his apartment never letting anyone to close. So it is a wonder when the neighbor pair start to develop an undeniable chemistry. Can Preston open his heart to love?
Jennifer Entwistle
The book was okay. Pretty predictable but Nora Roberts usually does a good job. I didn't really like the main character too much and didn't think the couple was a great match but she made it work in the end. I ended up liking the main character after she stopped being so ditzy and flaky! I don't know what the whole MacGreggor series is all about but this book held it's own by itself.

more of the Macgregor clan and their ever increasing branches of the family

and still linking them all is David and Anna

grandparents to everyone living in a 'huge castle by the sea'

Cybil draws cartoons

Preston writes plays

match made in heaven ... well in David's mind anyway...

enough unique twists to keep the story fresh and sharp

Julie
Cybil Campbell is an illustrator who just can't help being nosy about her new neighbour across the hall. Preston McQuinn isn't particularly friendly or forthcoming about who he is or what he does, but in spite of himself Cybil keeps breaking down the barriers. All the characters were likeable and believable, and I really enjoyed this book.
~Sara~
It started rough with the hero, Preston, being a major jackass throughout the book but somewhere near the end, the humour of the heroine Cybil's family started to win me over, even though Preston didn't. A very grudging 3 stars for making me not totally hate him at the end and interesting me in the rest of the MacGregor clan's story.
