I picked this audio book up at the library because I am a new fan of Coben's. I didn't realize that this particular book is the fifth installment of the Myron Bolitar series. And I was already several chapters in before I realized it. It didn't seem to matter and it functions fine as a stand-alone novel (the only drawback being that I now know things that have happened in previous books).

One False Move by Harlan Coben
One False Move by Harlan Coben is a romantic, comical mystery and is one of the installments in the Myron Bolitar series. Myron Bolitar is a former basketball star that is now a sports agent and heads his own sports agency. Myron also does detective work on the side that he claims is in order to acquire clients. In this novel, Myron is assigned to “recruit” an up and coming women’s professional basketball star, and the daughter of an old friend, Brenda Slaughter. Hi...more

My favorite book by Coben so far. A very good book and at times it was impossible to put down. I picked this book up from the library 2 nights ago and since then I haven't put it down. As usual Myron Bolitar was funny, amusing and very sarcastic when faced with danger. As usual Mrons relationship was a sort of interesting back story. As usual this novel dealt with both the high-class and the low-class and somehow found a main character who was contrasted between the two. But there was some new t...more

Beginning to exhaust my hunt for the loner, the hunter as a singular and main hero...a new trend seems to be emerging, the disassociation of the hunter and conscientious hero into two separate characters: the main character and his loner side-kick. Several authors embrace this genre motif: Robert Crais's Elvis Cole and his side-kick Joe Pike and of course Harlan Coben's Mylor Bolitar and his elitist side-kick Win.

For some reason, I haven't yet discovered, I really like these books. I particularly like the characters in the series of Myron Bolitar, Sports Representative. Even if some of them are sketchily drawn, they are intriguing. Coben's sense of humour is also a great contrast to the darkest moments in the novels.
I have read most of the series and continue to find the plots entertaining. This one didn't disappoint. But the ending was a bit too dramatic and too abrupt.

Book 5 in the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben. Myron is hired to bodyguard the star player in a new women's professional basketball league. Brenda's mother went missing 20 years ago. Her father went missing a week ago. And now someone is making threatening telephone calls to her. Brenda doesn't want a bodyguard, she just wants Myron to find her mother. Myron has to deal with the mafia trying to start a rival women's basketball league. He also must deal with the millionaire family of the man...more
Another in the series of Myron Bolitar plots. Myron is a sports agent with a past that includes being a professional basketball player and a government employee. Along with his sidekick, Win, and his business partner, Esperanza, they take on a new client (a female basketball player by the name of Brenda Slaughter). Myron and Brenda have somewhat of a past in that Myron used to play pick-up basketball with Brenda's father, Horace. Now Harace has vanished, and Brenda has been receiving threatening...more
I've read a couple of Coben's books before but forgot how much I like his Myron Bolitar character. He's strong yet vulnerable, a man who maintains his code of conduct in the midst of a cutthroat business. He's funny, self-deprecating, and likable!
The secondary character, Win, bothers me. Yes, it's great fun for Myron to have an incongruous, almost invincible, black ops wing man, but (1), Win has the morals of an alley cat--make that a degenerate alley cat, and (2), in this story at least, he sh...more

More of Myron's tale. Forbidden love. Deception. Broken Promises. First A Mother runs away leaving her five year old daughter behind. Then twenty years later, her father does the exact same thing.
Poor Brenda, to have all the people you love constantly leaving you. Brenda was a big super star basketball player. She was studying to become a peditrician doctor. And she was a knockout!
She was perfect for Myron.

I actually listened to the audio version of this book. This was a fairly classic Myron Bolitar story, yet it didn't hold my attention as well as most of his books. I admit that the narrator is superb. Winn didn't have a big part in One False Move and as he is one of my favorite side-kicks ever, I missed him. Myron is his usual lovable and humorous self, and in this novel he is sponsoring, protecting, and falling in love with a WNBA player. The ending was rather shocking- I did not see it coming...more
I have enjoyed Harlan Coben books in the past, but I think that I shall have to pass up the Myron Bolitar ones--this just disappointed me as far as plot, characters--the whole thing. Myron seems rather wishy washy about his relationships with women. Brenda Slaughter seemed like an interesting character, and then--she was fading from view. I realized that I really didn't CARE what happened, but I had invested time in reading, so I finished it and found out how everything meshed. Now I shall go ge...more
Myron Bolitar might have a slightly dubious past, but he knows how to handle himself and is doing just fine as a sports agent. That is, until he meets Brenda Slaughter, one of the hottest female sports stars around. She's gorgeous, funny and single, and also seems to have mislaid her agent. But when her father disappears, and the Mob starts leaning on her, it soon becomes apparent that potent forces are at work and Myron is quickly plunged into a whirlpool of deceit and death.

Myron Bolitar is hired to protect Brenda Slaughter, a beautiful young woman on the cusp of becoming a star in a new women's basketball league. This installment has the usual cast of characters. While there's plenty of blood, it felt like this book spent a bit more time on Myron's feelings. (view spoiler) it's nice that Myron truly likes his parents; it provides a little breathing sp...more

A solid entry into the Harlan Coben/Myron Bolitar series, without ever truly excelling.
I’ve read quite a lot of Harlan Coben’s work now but the last standalone novel I read, “Hold Tight”, just tipped the scales for me and went into the realms of stupidity and a sense of deja vu to some of his other works. I was less than impressed with that book and decided I needed to leave the author alone for some time.

ONE FALSE MOVE is best-selling author Harlan Coben's fifth novel to feature sports agent Myron Bolitar and his smooth friend Win. As usual, the novel is full of Coben's witty writing and twisty plot, but his novel carries a little more darkness that some of the others.
Myron has finally moved out of his parents' basement and in with longtime love Jessica Culver. Just as Jessica heads to California for business, Myron agrees to watch over Brenda Slaughter. Brenda, a med student, is the star player...more

Myron is reluctant--until he meets Brenda, who is young, highly intelligent, stunningly beautiful and black. This is the fifth book in the Myron Bolitar series and personally, I think it's the best I've read - and I've loved the previous four. In this caper, Myron is hired by his buddy Norm Zuckerman to "protect" Brenda Slaughter. She's been receiving threatening phone calls and her father is missing. Reluctantly, Myron agrees to help out and starts looking for Brenda's father and Brenda's mother who walked out on their family when Brenda was five. Myron doesn't count on falling for Brenda, and he does...more
This is probably my favorite of the Myron Bolitar mysteries by Coben. I listened to it this time, and I'm not crazy about the reader. It didn't seem like he had the same intensity throughout the entire book.
There were things in the story that I had glossed over the other times I had read it. There was an obscure Joe Biden reference that seemed to pop out at me given our current political situation. And, there was a reference to the Billy Jack series of movies that I immediately had to wiki. Lis...more

Harlan Coben, One False Move (Delacorte, 1998)
Harlan Coben's fourth novel, and the fourth in the Myron Bolitar series, One False Move gives Coben a new client with bad surroundings. (Surprise, surprise, eh?) WPBL head Norm Zuckerman wants Bolitar to represent Slaughter, since her father, who had managed her career up till a week before, had gone missing. Slaughter's mother had done the same twenty years before...more

Another great episode in the Myron Bolitar series. This book had the typical Myron sarcastic wit and was, as usual, a fun read. I really enjoyed the storyline and was happy to read that Myron's relationship with Jessica is on the rocks. I ended the book wondering what would happen next between the two of them. She's a character I love to hate. Win still freaks me out a little and this story does not change my opinion of him. I'm ready for the next book as soon as I can get it from the library.

Another in the Myron Bolitar series - and after a poor effort (in my opinion) in Back Spin, Coben returns to form with One False Move. Win plays a more prominent role (as opposed to him taking Back Spin off) and the dialouge between he and Myron makes the book. Fast paced with a good plot-line...I'm interested to see where Coben takes Myron next...as Jessica is now out of the picture (?) and Esperanza is a partner (?) at MB SportsReps. I will start The Final Detail immediately!
I really enjoy the Myron Bolitar sport agent crime novels. I loved this novel. First of all, let me say that you need to read this series in order because it slowly reveals different aspects of the characters. The mystery in this one isn't the best one so far. However, I give it a higher rating for the progression of the characters in the big picture. I didn't like that Mr. Coben had another basketball player in this one. I was looking for him to jump to another sport like he has in the past. I...more
