Bazen merak ediyorum acaba bizim Müge Anlı,Bolitar romanlarını okuyup gaza gelmiş olabilirmi.(Programdaki "dünyanın en iyi dedektifi benim amına koyim" havaları felan vardı oraları görmezden gelin).Bence mantıklı yani annemin izlediklerinden hatırladığım (asla kimse ben izledim demez hep annesi izlerken görmüştür sabah programlarını).Program aynı Bolitar romanları havasındaydı çünkü.Bir akraba kaybolur bütün sülale oradaki koltuklara toplaşır katili aralardı.Genelde olayı hep polis çözerdi ama orası ayrı.İşte bu romanda klasik Bolitar hikayesi üstüne kurulu yine kayıp bir eş-dost-akrabamız var.Tabi üstün cenabetlik madalyasının en büyük adaylarınan Myron'da olaya bulaşmadan edemiyor tabiki.

Tabiki önceki romanlardaki gibi yine aynı bir tarz konunun işlenilmesi kesinlikle kitabın eksi bir yönü değil.Aksine Harlan Coben'ın zekasının kanıtıdır.Her romanda aynı konuyu işleyip hepsinde okuyucunun aklını başından almak kolay iş değil tabiki.

Kitap yine sürükleyici bol espirili bir şekilde ilerliyor ama kitapta dikkatimi çeken bir konu olayların çözülüş bölümüydü.Klasik Coben kitaplarında her bölümün sonuna bir süpriz koyulur öyle gidilirdi sonuca.Bu kitaptaysa Michael Connelly'nin tarzını epey andıran bir tarz denenmiş.Süprizler bölüm sonunda değildi bölümün ortalarında,başında birer ikişer üçer vb.. ard arda patlatılmış.Bunun dışında büyük bir değişiklik yok yine bolca ters köşeli,bol kahkahalı muhteşem bir Bolitar romanı.

Kitabın tek sorunu aşırı çeviri hataları.Örnek vermek gerekirse Bolitar'ın boyu 1.95,Brenda'nın boyu ise 1.80 civarı ve sıkı durun aynen şu cümle kuruldu (aynen olmasa bile yakındır yani hiç alakasıda olmayabilir ezberden yazıyorum) "Myron,Brenda'dan 3 santim daha kısaydı" evet imkansız ama gerçek 1.95'lük adam 1.80'lik kızdan kısa olabiliyor.Bildiğiniz bütün fizik-matematik kurallarını unutun çevirmenin muhteşem hayal dünyasında herşey mümkün evet.Saçma hatalar dışında kitabın bir kusuru yok.

Ayrıca etrafındaki kişilere "O dudaklarının üstündeki bıyıkmı,yoksa burun kılların fazlamı uzamış" hakaretini eden tek kişi ben değilmişim.Bolitar'da benim kafadan buda kitabın ayrı mutlu eden bir yönüydü.Polisiye sevenlerin kesinlikle okuması gereken bir kitap...

I picked this audio book up at the library because I am a new fan of Coben's. I didn't realize that this particular book is the fifth installment of the Myron Bolitar series. And I was already several chapters in before I realized it. It didn't seem to matter and it functions fine as a stand-alone novel (the only drawback being that I now know things that have happened in previous books).

I like Myron. His character is drawn pretty well and I laughed out loud several times at his sense of humor....more

One False Move by Harlan Coben is a romantic, comical mystery and is one of the installments in the Myron Bolitar series. Myron Bolitar is a former basketball star that is now a sports agent and heads his own sports agency. Myron also does detective work on the side that he claims is in order to acquire clients. In this novel, Myron is assigned to “recruit” an up and coming women’s professional basketball star, and the daughter of an old friend, Brenda Slaughter. His task is to protect her and solve mysteries of her past that may interfere with her present life, all while hopefully gaining clientele. Throughout his time with Brenda, he falls in love with her. More and more people involved with Brenda are killed as he uncovers more about her past, but Myron won’t stop until he finds an answer to the question that is fueling all of this chaos: Why did Brenda’s mother disappear twenty years ago?

I would easily give this book a six out of six. The plot is suspenseful and makes for a quick read. It is completely unpredictable and I often found myself wondering how Harlan Coben even thought up these brilliant twists and turns. I was instantly able to form an opinion about the characters in my first encounter with them. This allowed me to feel a personal bond with them and kept me even more engaged in the plot. The Christian Science Monitor notes that “This is one of the funniest yet most complex and contemplative series to appear in ages...” This statement completely sums up my opinion of this book.

Myron’s voice is that of a wise guy and it works very well with the plot. For example, every time something thrilling was happening, Myron would interject with some hilariously sarcastic remark and it pulled me back from all of the adrenaline of the moment. Mixing humor and twists and turns into the plot was a brilliant move on Coben’s part. If you enjoy laughing aloud while you are reading and being so caught up in a book that you won’t go to sleep until you finish it, One False Move by Harlan Coben is a book for you.(less)

For some reason, I haven't yet discovered, I really like these books. I particularly like the characters in the series of Myron Bolitar, Sports Representative. Even if some of them are sketchily drawn, they are intriguing. Coben's sense of humour is also a great contrast to the darkest moments in the novels.
I have read most of the series and continue to find the plots entertaining. This one didn't disappoint. But the ending was a bit too dramatic and too abrupt.

20 years later, Brenda's father is going over the edge, shoving and threatening Brenda. Her father, Horace, is big into basketball, and mentored youn Myron when he was in high school, accepting him in neighborhood pick up games and coaching him... Myron's last call to him was when he was drafted into the pros... and he never reconnected after his injury. Brenda has been getting unique scholorships, to go to boarding school as a teen & then through college, and she is attractive, a fantastic basketball player - headlinging a new professional women's basketball league - while getting her education to be a doctor. And she took out a restraining order against her dad (thinking he was the one who had 2 men who were heckling her playing have their achilles' heel) and because he soved her. But her father is mssiong, and she's getting threatening phone calls (from a rival league's mod guys)... so Norm (sponsor of this league) asks Myron to watch over her, and possibly sign her as her rep. It ends up that Brenda's aunt Mabel who picked her up when she was 5 and knew who her real father is killed Horace, and killed Brenda when Brenda figured it out. And Brenda challenges him on his perception of women, specifically women and sports but also in her ability to care for herself in general.

And Myron, in his tenacious way, unravels it all. along the way he finds out that old man Bradford and Sam are pretty evil - forcing his father to accept unions when he was a boy, by coming to his office, discussing yard clippers and how they could damage a body, and then leaving clippers on Myron's bed when he is asleep. we are not unhappy when Sam gets his. And he just pokes at things - asking questions - of the Bradfords, of the police who investigated Arthur's wife's death, finding listening devices in Horace, Mabel, & Brenda's apartments (set by Arthur, who is still waiting 20 years later to fnd Anita), chicking old news columns, questioning reporters, checking phone reords., etc. And he puts it together.. There is a poignant scence with Winn, where Win is asking Myron why he is pushing, what is his goal - he only sees that people will get hurt, and he is right..

And Myron and women - jessica goes to the west coast for a story, they talk, and she tells him she's been offered a newscasting job ... she wants a long distance, weekend relationship - he asks her to come home... and he is attracted to Brenda, taking her to his family's bbq on the nigh she findsout her father was killed, and she fits in so well with his family - and it doesn't seem anything that she is the only black woman there (though he notices he feels out of place when the reverse happens). they talk, they kiss, he tells her he's involved with some one... and Jessica shows up, and he tells her he loves her, but that he kissed someone ... and then ... Brenda is missing, Brenda is dead...

Esperanza has given him a week to decide about the partnership she wants - he tells her no, that he needs her to stay his best friend, and business ruins relationships (his father and uncle are not the same after they tried a partnership in business)... but after Brenda's death, he goes to Experanza, and says he needs her to stay, he's willing to risk it - and Esperanze says she realized she couldn't leave him.

and 2 weeks after the funeral, he is mourning Brenda at her grave (all loose ends, including evil Mabel, have been tied up), and Jessica comes, they hug, he tells her he loves her and that he'll be staying at Win's for a few weeks. hmmmmm (less)

I've read a couple of Coben's books before but forgot how much I like his Myron Bolitar character. He's strong yet vulnerable, a man who maintains his code of conduct in the midst of a cutthroat business. He's funny, self-deprecating, and likable!

More of Myron's tale. Forbidden love. Deception. Broken Promises. First A Mother runs away leaving her five year old daughter behind. Then twenty years later, her father does the exact same thing.

I actually listened to the audio version of this book. This was a fairly classic Myron Bolitar story, yet it didn't hold my attention as well as most of his books. I admit that the narrator is superb. Winn didn't have a big part in One False Move and as he is one of my favorite side-kicks ever, I missed him. Myron is his usual lovable and humorous self, and in this novel he is sponsoring, protecting, and falling in love with a WNBA player. The ending was rather shocking- I did not see it coming...more

I have enjoyed Harlan Coben books in the past, but I think that I shall have to pass up the Myron Bolitar ones--this just disappointed me as far as plot, characters--the whole thing. Myron seems rather wishy washy about his relationships with women. Brenda Slaughter seemed like an interesting character, and then--she was fading from view. A solid entry into the Harlan Coben/Myron Bolitar series, without ever truly excelling.

I’ve read quite a lot of Harlan Coben’s work now but the last standalone novel I read, “Hold Tight”, just tipped the scales for me and went into the realms of stupidity and a sense of deja vu to some of his other works. I was less than impressed with that book and decided I needed to leave the author alone for some time.

Coben explores sexism in the story--not the overt, ugly kind but the internal, subtle stereotypes that most of us carry around within us. Brenda's race is not so much a problem as is her insistence on being treated as a fully-capable adult, notwithstanding her gender. This leads to one truly funny confrontation in Win's apartment between Myron and Brenda.[return][return]Coben's whacky, off-the-wall humor enhances the story as usual. This is probably my favorite of the Myron Bolitar mysteries by Coben. I listened to it this time, and I'm not crazy about the reader. It didn't seem like he had the same intensity throughout the entire book.

There were things in the story that I had glossed over the other times I had read it. There was an obscure Joe Biden reference that seemed to pop out at me given our current political situation. Another great episode in the Myron Bolitar series. This book had the typical Myron sarcastic wit and was, as usual, a fun read. I really enjoyed the storyline and was happy to read that Myron's relationship with Jessica is on the rocks. I ended the book wondering what would happen next between the two of them. She's a character I love to hate. Win still freaks me out a little and this story does not change my opinion of him. I'm ready for the next book as soon as I can get it from the library.

Another in the Myron Bolitar series - and after a poor effort (in my opinion) in Back Spin, Coben returns to form with One False Move. Win plays a more prominent role (as opposed to him taking Back Spin off) and the dialouge between he and Myron makes the book. Fast paced with a good plot-line...I'm interested to see where Coben takes Myron next...as Jessica is now out of the picture (?) and Esperanza is a partner (?) at MB SportsReps. I will start The Final Detail immediately!

I really enjoy the Myron Bolitar sport agent crime novels. I loved this novel. First of all, let me say that you need to read this series in order because it slowly reveals different aspects of the characters. The mystery in this one isn't the best one so far.
