Coulter's books over the years have gone from interesting and good depth of character to light, not very suspenseful, not very deep characters, reading.

They are entertaining. But lately she's trying to add in more of the paranormal and she just doesn't quite make it believable. It's usually OK right up to the big suspense scenes and then falls apart. It end's ok... it's just those few chapters where something's "off". Like she's trying to hard to tie up the threads.

This book is another one wher...more

Savich and Sherlock are at it again. The two FBI agents are contacted telepathically by a young girl named Autumn after she sees her relatives burying a pile of dead bodies. It’s up to them to keep Autumn out of harm, but they realize that it might not be just another criminal case when they learn that Autumn isn’t the only one with unearthly powers.
In the FBI thriller Knock Out, award-winning author Catherine Coulter leads us on a suspenseful chase. The book is gripping and action-packed, wit...more

3th book in the FBI series that is more suspense than romance.

Savich gets a telepathic message from a 7 year-old girl just as he's falling asleep. She'd seen him on TV and knows he's a hero and she needs help, so tried to reach him. Her father's relatives have just recently learned of her existence and all are gifted with various powers to mess with someone else's mind. And they want her in their fold and will stop at nothing to grab her, even though she's surrounded by deputies and the sheriff....more

Eh . . .

Although I like the main plot concept, the sub-plot just seems pointless. I'm wondering if the bank robber angle will somehow end up dovetailing with the child-kidnapping story. In the meantime, it's just annoying.

In my opinion, the author's poorly written and disjointed style is off-putting. At one point I felt like I was trying to watch a scratched-up DVD that kept skipping, leaving out big chunks of the story. I'm particularly disenchanted with the inauthentic and cliched dialogue an...more

For experienced FBI Special Agent Dillon Savich to find himself on the floor of a bank during a bank robbery was a bit of luck, good and bad. He was able to alert his partner and wife Special Agent Lacey Sherlock of the robbery in progress as well as be there to help take down the bad guys and girls. While the sole survivor of the gang was in the hospital, she was able to escape with the help of the get-a-way driver. While trying to figure out their next move, Dillon received a message from a se...more

I didn't like this book as well as I normally like Catherine Coulter's books. The story was good once I got into it, but the premise took some time to accept. I used this to fulfill one of the tasks for my reading challenge, which was to read a book and "cast" the movie. Here is my cast:

Sherlock: Marcia Cross

Savich: Matthew Fox

Lissy: Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210)

Victor: Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum, Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire)

Ethan: Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo, NCIS)

Joanna: An...more

Another great suspense mystery with FBI team Dillion Savich and Lacey Sherlock! There are several books with these characters and they are always saving or helping someone. Usually youll hear of those characters in future books, so its nice to remember them and hear about them again. This story has two storylines that the Savich and Sherlock are following. A young Bonnie & Clyde type they are trying to capture. And then a little girl of 7 yrs old and her mom, trying to escape her in laws fam...more

A seven year old girl, Autumn Backman, contacts FBI Special Agent Dillon Savich after seeing a show about him on TV. She is able to communicate with Savach telepathically.

In Titusville, VA. Autumn runs away and hides in the home of Sheriff Ethan Merriweather. She tells Ethan that a man who goes by the name of Blessed is after her and her mother, Joanna and warns Ethan not to look into Blessed's eyes because he can control a person's thoughts once they do look him in the eye.

I have never read a book by Catherine Coulter before, but I have heard good things about her writing. So I was excited to win this book right here on Goodreads in a giveaway.

I really enjoyed this book, it had two main stories going on but they worked well in this book. I enjoyed the characters alot. I now know there are more stories written about Savich and sherlock. And I know if I should happen across one I will absolutely read it.

The main story about a little girl named Autumn, who is gifted...more

Savich and Sherlock are back with two cases on their plates. In the first Savich is in his local bank when four masked gunmen rushed in firing automatic weapons. Savich keys in his cell to call Sherlock and leaves the line open. I really don't want to say more here, but the out come is that Savich and a bank guard become the target of a teenage who is determined to get revenge for the death of her mother in the holdup. At the same time Savich, while sleeping gets a dream?, vision? ,wahtever from...more

This was the first Catherine Coulter novel for me. When it started out with a bank robbery followed by a little girl communicating telepathically with an FBI agent I suspected it would be really cheesy and I didn't think I would like it.

However, I liked the way Coulter skipped from one plot line to another and back again, weaving them together into one story. There were times when I was wondering what was going on with one character because they were absent for a few chapters. But then I realiz...more

Savich and Sherlock are involved in two cases again. One had them chasing young bank robbers and the other includes a paranormal communication between Savich and a seven year old girl. There were some holes to the story and really how many times can the married FBI agents end up getting shot or injured. And how many times do their suspects get to escape to move the plot forward. Or have a personal grudge against the agents so they have to try and get revenge before they just escape. It all just...more

What a disappointment. I downloaded the audio book and was very tempted to put this on my "couldn't get through" shelf but I struggled through to the end because I could listen while driving instead of wasting preciious reading time. I was not interested in the supernatural, the cult, and the completely overblown characters. The mother was far too protective, the 6-year-old way beyond her years in vocabulary and general knowledge to be believable. And who lets a six-year-old repeatedly crawl out...more

I've decided not to read the final 5 or 6 books in Ms. Coulter's bibliography.

In Knockout, it seemed like she got sick of the story at the most tense scene and decided to wrap it up in a 5 pg epilogue - very disappointing

OH NO - the adorable 7 yr old who's been the focus of the whole story gets shot in the chest... and let's wrap it up in the living room three months later.

seriously - that was it. Not only that, but there were some pretty serious plot holes. How the hell did those psychos get to...more

Two tough cases in this story. First Dillon is at the bank on personal business when the "Gang of Four" come in to rob it. Three of the 4 are killed one arrested but threatens to kill both Dillon and the bank guard! Later Dillon is contacted telepathically by a little girl who needs her help! He and Sherlock go back and forth from one case to the other however the e-copy of the book I downloaded ended in the middle of the epilogue (tried downloading it 3 times and couldn't get those last few pag...more

CHEESY. From the characters, to their names, to the way they spoke, to the plot, to the relationships.... cheesy. Every time the main dude's cell rings, she makes a note to tell you what song it is. Why? Who cares? Why is an FBI dude's cell ringing the theme from Titanic when his boss calls, anyway? And I think this chic knows about as much about the FBI as I know about dental instruments-- I know it when I see it, but I can't talk about it with any sort of intelligence. It was like a bad episod...more

I totally misjudged the content of this book. Thought it would be rich in DC setting, but it wasn't. Dillon and Sherlock's abode could have been in Bayonne as easily as Georgetown. It was that sunset-over-the-Lincoln-Memorial that threw me off.

That said, I enjoyed Coulter's ability to pace the story. I found the telepathy between Dillon and the little girl a bit much, and I wondered if the psycho bank robbing teeny-bopper would end up somehow connected to the creepy cult, but no deal.

Still, the...more

While Coulter did a pretty good job of taking two parallel plot lines and keeping them going until they finally intersect, the dialogue for the seven-year old didn't quite ring true. Granted, this is the third book of a series of which I hadn't read the prior two, but I felt like the writing was a little sketchy in parts, especially at the end. I'd read some of her earlier books, and this one didn't seem quite up to par with them. Her general plot(s) and character development were interesting, b...more

I have to give this one star because I did not finish it. I got to about chapter 33 when I turned off my ipod in disgust. The first few books in the FBI thriller series were pretty good but its gone downhill to the point where I won't be picking up another one. The story was slow and too well padded to make it very interesting. It was ok at first, had the potential to be engage me. Then about where I stopped the Mom started doing the TSTL thing and all these brilliant FBI guys, sheriff and deput...more

audio version was overacted and over dramatic. The woman was particularly bad.

The story itself was too long and repetitive. I liked the overall concept but what the characters do is inconsistent and unintelligent. Even within the context of the story some of the actions were stupid - I kept thinking - "you gotta be kidding. nobody would actually do that."

This is my first Catherine Coulter book and it may be my last. I have heard her other books are better but I'll get it from the library before...more

Savich and Sherlock are back and in fine form as they deal with amoral bank robbers and a mysterious cult with telepathic members who also lack any conscience. A young girl reaches out to Savich from across the country using only her mind and he must strive to find her and protect her from the evil relatives who seek to entrap her in their evil hierarchy while trying to keep his own family safe from the insanity that threatens to destroy them. Replete with Coulter's extraordinary characters and...more

I usually like books in this series but #13 was a bust for a couple reasons. The topic was pyschic powers, being able to control people and being able to communicate telephathically not things I totally believe in. And the other reason - there were 2 readers, a man and a woman that did the voices. And one of the main characters was a little girl who was 7 years old and they gave her a loud, whiney , annoying voice that drove my nuts. Maybe it would have been better if I had read the book instead...more

I loved the suspense and action in this book. I also really liked the paranormal/psychic storyline, which was done well without going overboard or crossing the 'fantasy' line.

My main critique of this book are some flaws in the author's writing. The first thing that bugged me was the lack of character development at the beginning, especially with the FBI agents. There were too many characters too fast, which caused them to become unmemorable and unfamiliar when they continued to appear later on...more

While I was reading this book I kept getting the feeling I'd heard both stories before. We have yet again a young child 7 year old Autumn Backman, being hunted by a religious cult. She's wanted because of her special "gift" (Similar plot in Blind Side when 5 year old Sam Kettering was kidnapped).
And yet again, Savitch is being pursued by a vengeful and psychotic teenager, Lissy Smiley. Who wants Dillon dead for harming her and killing part of her family. ( Think Tammy Tuttle in Hemlock Bay. Simi...more

I stopped reading Catherine Coulter’s FBI Thriller Series a few years ago. I don’t remember why, because the series books are always good and fast paced. Knock Out is no exception.

Special Agent Dillon is waiting in line inside a D.C. bank when the infamous Gang of Four burst in, demanding money. He hits the floor with the other customers, his hand in his jacket pocket speed dialing his wife, Agent Lacey Sherlock. Sherlock hears the gunshots and screams – she is immediately on the way wi...more

I have no idea why I finished listening to this book-- probably because I really enjoyed previous books in the series.

I didn't like the audio production. This is one of the few times that I really thought the characters (particularly Sherlock) didn't sound right.

The story never worked for me, some of the scenes were unintentionally funny, I never felt attached to any of the characters (and that included the ones I "knew" from previous books and the little girl, a character normally guaranteed to...more

Yes indeedy, I do like Catherine Coulter's 'FBI' series starring agents with grit, smarts, a kicka$$ computer, humor, and the occasional 'gifts'. "Knock Out" is her latest novel set in the world of Savich and Sherlock and it is...a knock out.

This time Savich and Sherlock are working two cases at the same time. The first involves a gang of vicious bank robbers who kill security guards for no reason other than 'fun'. The second involves a special girl named Autumn, who first speaks to Savich in hi...more

This one was just weird. The psychic element is back. I'm not sure how I feel about psychics. On one hand it's kind of cool. On another hand, why are they able to do this? It's kind of creepy. For Dillon a guy who has his feet on the ground and works for the FBI to be able to receive messages via telepathy, it's kind of cool yet weird. We are talking about a person who deals in facts who suddenly is now open up to things he can not explain. Frankly, his ability to handle this is a bit unrealisti...more

I didn't hate this book but I didn't exactly like it either. I usually like murder mystery thrillers, but this rubbed me the wrong way because the detective ended up being telepathic. The two different cases covered in this book had nothing to do with one another, and it seemed to interrupt the flow to jump back and forth between the two. Plus, the pov seemed to switch all the time, sometimes mid-chapter, which really just threw me off. This is the 13th book in a series, so maybe that's why I di...more
