Visual this is one of the most exciting books i've read. Designed very similarly to the Dinotopia books in a picture book layout it has a pure fantasy story to tell. A myth teacher searching for truth in the stories he studies. He has to find proof for his peers in order to keep his position at the college he teaches at. While out with his two daughters one day a ship appears and takes him on an incredible journey. This books has beautiful water color of the highest quality and imagination,...more

My Mom used to read this to us before we could read ourselves and I loved it as much then as I do now. Its a wonderful story and the book is full of brilliant pictures that take the breath away. I save this book especially for lazy sunny days (because I have much better things to do on rainy ones than sit inside and read a book). I think almost anyone would love this book. It makes you feel like there's an adventure just around the corner (which there usually is) if you only wish for it hard...more

This book will never stop being wonderful. I originally read it as a small child, most recently read it yesterday, and no matter how many times I've read it before, I never stop being amazed at the quality of the story and the artwork. The Voyage of the Basset will enchant you, horrify you, amaze you, and in the end, convince you that magic is both real and necessary. Thoroughly recommended to anyone with an ounce of imagination and wonder in their souls.

Absolutely beautiful. Not a Novel, just absolutely beautiful. The painting is gorgeous. It's written by James C. Christensen, and since he's my favorite Artist, I love the book, too. One hundred percent how Magic should be. Just take a look at some of his artwork some time. (he's also Mormon. the Painting I have on my profile is one of his. It's titled: 'Sometimes The Spirit Touches Us Through Our Weaknesses'.)

I read this book aloud to my son when he was in kindergarten. It was a great way to wind him down and for us to share a story. He loved being read to and *I* enjoyed reading it to him. The pictures are lovely and break up the pages nicely. And they give lots of opportunity for conversation about the parts of stories that are outside the narrative.

Story was a bit dry, but pictures were amazing! James Chritensen is such a talented artist! Jonah, Grace and I loved to just read the notes taken about each of the creatures. It was interesting to learn more about the myths and legends, but we just could not get through the story, so we skipped around and read what interested us.

This book was amazing! The story was great and the illustrations are beautiful.
This is a story about a professor and his two daughters who take a voyage into the world of mythology where they encounter nearly every magical creature imaginable. Its a great story, and every picture is amazing!

Resonating far beyond my many readings, this beautiful work of story and art still arouses a deep fascination and love with its intricate drawings and ever important message of "Believing is Seeing."

I loved the illustrations more than I loved the story. It was interesting but not a great story line. Perty pictures though :D
