Wow. If I thought "Death Star" was bad.... This was the worst book I've read in a long, long time. Pointless side plots, telegraphed "plot twists," cardboard characters, worthless cameos, stereotyped female romantic desires... just a horrendously bad piece of fan-fiction. Can't believe I finished it.

Really really loved this book, it was just like being in game again, all the descriptions of the planets and plant and animal life was fantastic - nyms map quest was even in there!!! The ending of the book had me tearing up - what a journey - loved it :)

This story occurs between the first two Star Wars movies. While Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewie have bit parts, the plot revolves around Dusque Mistflier, an Imperial bioengineer. While on assignment to gather specimens, Dusque is recruited by Rebel spy, Finn Darktrin, to recover a list of Rebel agents. However, all is not what it seems. While the list is recovered, it is not without both physical and emotional cost to Dusque. The book is an easy read. The plot is not complicated, and many of the pl ...more

Dusque Mistflier is just an Imperial bioengineer cataloging various life forms on various planets. Finn Darktrin is a Rebel sympathizer who needs her help. As they are being chased by the Imperials, they are saved by the Rebels. Will they locate the holocron which contains names of Rebel agents before the Imperials find it? This is not Baldur's Gate 1 or 2. Thank your lucky stars! For fans of the on-line role playing game, Star Wars Galaxies (SWG), this is a neat little novel. I found the plot to be interesting, mostly because I have been playing SWG since it went retail and I thought it interesting to see how many of the game devices were woven into the plot. It's almost as if they developed a list of game characters, planets, professions, and beasts and see how many of them they could get into the book. They even ...more

Not expecting much from a book based on a game based on a film. But I have a bacterial lung infection which is stopping me sleep so I am reading the equivalent of what Pringles is to food.

...and the chest infection turned into mild pneumonia and now something else but this book was a faithful companion. In fact, much like a dog, didn't have much to offer but what it offered was simple and pleasurable.

I enjoyed the plot, the characters were no more than you would expect but no less than you would

Predictable, cookie cutter Star Wars. There are a few cameos of "the big three" to keep interest up but the overall book was just a quick Star Wars fix. It would be interesting to see the main character come back in a tertiary role later on or to know what eventually happens to Finn. These would probably be as background to some one else's story which is about what they deserve.

Overall, a mediocre effort, but not a painful read for Star Wars fans who want to read the complete collection.

I was expecting to see more of Luke and the gang, but they only had very brief appearances in the story. The story was all wrapped up in Dusk and Finn. Not to bad, but not great. It gets really annoying at times with all the talk about the different creatures that the couple run into. The ending was really different than I expected. On to the next one in the lineup- 'Choices Of One', which is the sequel to 'Alliance'.

I felt torn reading this book. Some of it was very good and some of it was totally forgettable. It's a shame that they couldn't do a little more with non-continuity characters, take them wherever they wanted to. And stop explaining things step by step to me. I know it's a book for gamers but that doesn't mean it has to be dumbed down.

Recommends it for: SWG players
I thought The Ruins of Dantooine was alright. I played Star Wars Galaxies often during the time this book was released and loved the game at the time. It was cool to read about different places in the game, but the story was a little lacking and I was rather confused by the ending.

A by the numbers Star Wars novel, fairly easy and quick read. The main two characters were interesting but much more could have been made of them. There didn't feel like there was too much of a threat for the characters, but it was enjoyable enough to keep me reading.

I didn't realize this would be my first romance novel. Classic horribleness courtesy of pp 155-6: "As Finn started to speak, Dusque held up a hand and placed it against his lips. 'It's all right, ... I understand.'" Oy

Nice story embedded into the happenings after Episode 4. Lots of guest appearances. Some things are telegraphed, though...
Wesley
Pretty forgettable...I just like it because I played SWG for so long.

Tho it was based on a game, it was still an enjoyable read!
