I've been sitting here for a while and I just don't know where to begin. This is a precious book and it is hard to put into words how important it is and how well done it is. I am thoroughly impressed. It will be a great introduction to Anne Frank for many and will hopefully lead them to want to learn more about her and the injustices that happened during WWII.

This book was the graphic interpretation of Anne Frank's life in a Nazi-occupied Amsterdam. It was very insightful as it gave a complete biography of her life, her parents lives, and the continuation of her diary after she died. Having read her actual diary translated in English, I thought this book was a great way to really understand what Anne was going through. The pictures added to the emotions connected to the story as a visual representation of the strife Anne was going through. This book...more
This is a graphic novel version of Anne Frank's experiences living in hiding during WWII that is a little off the mark. I had never read Frank's story before, so that could be part of why I had a hard time getting into the book, but I don't really think that's the problem. The book was indeed text heavy and a little hard to read since there wasn't a clear reading pattern to the pages and images. I had to stop and reread pages to make things make sense, which slowed down the reading and made ever...more
Anne Frank the graphic novel by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon is one hundred and fifty two pages long. The author shows in great detail what Anne and her family went through during the holocaust. The genre is graphic novels and biographies.
It all started when Anne was a young child in Frankfurt, Germany, the hatred and discrimination, all because her family is Jewish. On March 13 1933 the Nazi party and their leader Adolf Hitler won an election to be the chancellor of Germany. As soon as the Fra...more

Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House" by Sid Jacobson was a child's version of the diary of Anne Frank. I have read the Diary of Anne Frank so I am familar with the story and this book tells it very well. The book is in order from Anne's parents meeting to Anne's father's death. I found this book to be very interesting and very easy to read. It was written in a comic book style which would make it an easy read for children and provides visuals for them to follow.

I have read the original Diary of Anne Frank, but "Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House" by Sid Jacobson, gave me a more informative version of her story, that starts before she is even born. This graphic novel, presented Frank's view and factual information about what was going on outside the annex.
The graphic novel is factual and stayed true to the story of Anne Frank and her family. The author pulls quotes right from her diary. The information is presented in chronological order, starting from...more

I loved reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" as a young girl. I appreciated this graphic novel, because with the help of its illustrations, it painted an even stronger picture of Anne's life in my mind. This graphic novel provided many important dates before, during, and after the period Anne wrote in her diary. It was informative like a textbook, only easier and more enjoyable to read.

This graphic biography compellingly depicts the life and legacy of Anne Frank. Some Frank family history, some broader historical context, Anne’s childhood leading up to World War Two, the span of her diary, and afterward are all within the scope of this book. The broader historical context of Anne’s time is chronologically interwoven in her life, which is again presented in a chronology section. The Anne Frank House Authorization of this book ensures its accuracy. Speech and thought balloons ar...more
I never would have thought that I would encounter the "The Diary of Anne Frank" in comic book format. For a book rooted in such a horrific period in time, the topic seems almost off limits to a graphic novel, but I must admit that I was thoroughly impressed with the level of tact and skill that Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon employed in "Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House Authorized Graphic Biography". Their version of the story provide a new level of depth and emotion by providing snapshots of how...more

Everybody knows who Anne Frank is but not everybody knows how her life really was. In the graphic biography Anne Frank, it talks about her life beginning with her family history and continuing on with her early childhood into her experiences hiding during World War II. The story starts by explaining her family tree and then talks about the background of the war. Anne lived in Amsterdam and had a happy childhood. She had a good relationship with her father but didn’t get along with her mom. Anne...more
In many ways, this graphic biography was easier to read than Anne Frank's original diary. One reason was that she was still learning her craft as a writer. The other is that, very reasonably, her writings included her biases as a young teen girl. Everything is filtered through those. The book does draw upon Anne Frank's writing, though, and focuses on her desire to become a writer, and how this led to the diary.

The Diary of Anne Frank was one of the first books I remember reading that left a significant impression on me. This version of her story is equally moving. It goes beyond the diary, including the family's history as well as the events leading up to the war and during the war. Also included is how Otto Frank brought her words to the world. All this is done in the format of graphic nonfiction that is well researched and respectfully presented by its authors.
Anne Frank is by: Sid Jacobson and is 149 pages. It is a biography and a graphic novel with a lot of information. This story is about the life of Anne Frank. Anne Frank is a Jew and was born around the time of of Hitler being elected. When Anne is around the age of 6 she was not even able to go to a school that had Germans instead she had to go to a school for Jews. Anne said that , that change actually made her closer to her friends. Anne had always favored her father and always asked for his a...more
Anne Frank is no stranger to us. We all know about how she hid with her family and four others in a secret annex in Netherlands during the infamous Holocaust, for two years. Whether or not we have actually read or loved her diary, none of us would deny that she went through a harrowing experience - just as million other Jews, victimized simply because of their faith. But in so many ways, Anne has become a symbol of that period chiefly because she was just fifteen when she died (murdered is what...more
For the first graphic novel, I read Anne Frank by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón and it was about 150 pages. This graphic novel puts an interesting and very engaging twist on the original Diary of Anne Frank. It covers the lives of the entire Frank family, from the lives of Anne’s parents to her last moments and her dad locating and publishing her precious diary. This was the first graphic novel I’ve ever read and it made me want to read more of them. The illustrations are rich and amazingly detai...more

The graphic novel Anne Frank by Sid Jacobs was the first book I read because I wanted to get something more informational and historical out of the way. I was surprised at how much a learned about Anne Frank’s life that I didn’t know before. The way she was brought up made her who she was when she reached the Annex. The Annex is where her family and she were hiding out. I always thought that she ended up passing away from being found by Nazi’s. It turned out she was sent to a concentration camp...more

The Holocaust was a horrible part in the history of the world. This graphic novel tells the story in pictures of Anne Frank trying to live through World War II and the Holocaust. The story starts with telling about her dad's past and where he worked and whatnot. Then it gets into the details of Adolf Hitler taking over Germany with his Nazis, Anne's family being forced to go into hiding at Otto's (Anne's Father) office in his spice factory. They hide in the Annex above the working area. They sta...more
I first read this several months ago, yet I have never reviewed it. I wanted to convey how deeply it affected me, so reading it again was the logical step. It moved me more the second time than the first.

This comic adaptation of Anne Frank's story was absolutely amazing. The illustrations bring her story to life in an informative yet chilling way. The story begins before Anne is even born and after her death. She has a lot to teach about peace and love. The most memorable part of this book in my opinion was when before the Frank family went into hiding. Anne and her sister were standing outside the gate of a public pool on a hot day and were not permitted to enter. This part really struck me bec...more
The facts and information in this graphic novel are great. I've read the Diary of Anne Frank three times (twice for myself and once for school) and from this biography I learned a lot of new details about Anne's life prior to when her family went into hiding. The book starts when Anne's parents marry and continues until her father's death in 1980.

I didn't expect to learn anything new, or even to be touched very deeply by this book (being that I know the subject matter so thoroughly -- having read the diary many times, and otherwise immersed myself in background material for the last 42 years). I was wrong. Somehow, the drawings of the familiar photographs renewed their emotional impact for me. Somehow, the drawings of the photographs of Nazi criminals, and the other instances of historical information and context, made it much more perso...more
Having always had an interest in World War II and the Holocaust I was excited when my friend Adam found this graphic novel sitting on a table in Barnes and Noble. During my graphic novel kick I asked Adam if I could borrow it, to which he responded of course!

This graphic biography gives wonderful illustrations and explanations of Anne Frank. Not only it explains about Anne Frank itself, but also her family background and the environment that she grew up in. It also gave informative historical background within the image. Moreover, its beautiful illustrations show how Anne Frank deals with the society that pressures Jews during her puberty age in a process of becoming an adult. From the book, I realized that Anne Frank was surely different from other...more
Audience: 6-9. This book is an excellent way to introduce or revisit Anne Frank's Diary. Its graphic content (nudity and violence) makes it inappropriate for anyone under the age of 12.

‘Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House Authorized Graphic Biography’ by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón is about the hardship and struggles Anne and her family had to endure during World War 2. The graphic biography is great if you enjoy reading facts about what Germany was doing at the time. Unfortunately, Anne, her sister Margot and her moth...more
