Fantastic story, that had me glued to my Kindle! Not only did I like the main characters in Nick and Kaylee, but this book also had great background stories about the others. Non-stop action and lots of hot and heavy lovin'! Loved it!

Stephanie Tyler is a great story-teller which has definitely made me a fan of hers and this series!

Ok, I made it through this one. The second book in the Hold Trilogy by Stephanie Tyler. I liked it slightly more than the first but still wasn't that great for me. I'm not a fan of excessive profanity but Ms. Tyler certainly is. There was no sexual tension as the characters scratched their itches before any tension could build. Something was still missing. I have the 3rd in the series and I'm not sure I want to continue.

Kaylee ist kein Kind von Traurigkeit und so hat sie selbst schon die ein oder andere Jugendstrafe hinter sich, versucht aber nun ihr Leben so gut zu Leben wie es eben geht. Dass ihr Ex-Mann und ehemals bester Freund Aaron verstarb war für sie ein harter Schlag, doch als dann plötzlich ihr Telefon klingelt und er scheinbar gar nicht so tot ist wie alle dachten und sie dazu noch um etwas vollkommen gefährliches bittet, kann Kaylee ihm seine Bitte nicht abschlagen. Sie wendet sich also an Nick, der mit ihr nach Afrika kommen soll um sie zu beschützen, während sie ihr Leben für Aaron auf’s Spiel setzt.

Auch dieses Mal sind wieder sehr viele Ähnlichkeiten zwischen den Protagonisten zu finden und Stephanie Tyler setzt scheinbar einmal mehr auf „gleich und gleich gesellt sich gern“. Allerdings ist das gerade bei Nick wahrscheinlich die einzige Möglichkeit, dass jemand an ihn herankommt, denn Kaylee versteht ihn in seinem Denken und Tun wie es wohl niemand anders kann. Beide sind ohne die Liebe der Mutter aufgewachsen, auch wenn es nicht genau die selbe Situation war reicht es doch um sie einander vertrauter werden zu lassen. Dabei hat Kaylee es auf keinen Fall einfach, denn Nick hat eine sehr dicke Haut und einen starken Willen. Doch sie weiß, dass er wahrscheinlich der einzige ist bei dem sie sich so frei fühlen kann wie sie es eben tut, also kämpft sie selbst im gefährlichen Afrika noch um Nicks Liebe!

War der erste Band noch sehr auf das zwischenmenschliche fixiert, ist es hier eher das körperliche Empfinden. Das passt hier hervorragend hinein, denn Nick hat seit – oder eben wegen – seiner Kindheit Probleme mit körperlicher Nähe – außer beim Sex. Somit ist es schon vorprogrammiert, dass hier gerade der körperliche Akt sehr weit in den Vordergrund gehoben wird. Doch es ist keinesfalls störend, sondern vollkommen passend.

Dass die Haupthandlung wieder in Afrika spielt ist für die Autorin bezeichnend, denn sie selbst ist scheinbar von dem Kontinent fasziniert und so erhält die Geschichte seine Priese Gefahr neben allem anderen.

Und auch mit Sarah und Clutch, bekannt aus dem ersten Band, gibt es ein wieder sehen. Die Liebesgeschichte der zwei verlief bisher weit im Hintergrund, doch nun bekommt sie einen höheren Stellenwert und ist zugleich ein wichtiger Teil der Handlungen dieses Buches. Haben die zwei also eine Chance?
Zeitgleich rückt Chris mit einer FBI-Agentin (Jamie) in Afrika an um seinem Bruder zu helfen. Jamie selbst ist vor allem auf der Suche nach ihrer Schwester und versucht alles um sie aus ihrer Situation zu befreien. Die beiden leben somit den Grundstein für den dritten Band, der eben die Geschichte dieser beiden aufgreift.

Beziehungen, Liebe, Leidenschaft, Gefahr. Es klingt sehr rasant, ist es aber leider nicht zu jeder Zeit. An manchen Stellen wirkt die Handlung geradezu zäh und scheint auf der Stelle zu stehen, doch das ist immer nur auf ein paar Seiten der Fall, bis sich das wieder so weit gibt und den Leser weiterhin mit sich reißt. Doch leider ist die Geschichte um Nick und Kaylee nicht so feurig, wie es sich der Leser vielleicht wünschen würde: Das Ende kommt zu plötzlich und so wahnsinnig untypisch für die Charakterzüge der beiden Protagonisten. Auch scheint die Geschichte um Sarah und Clutch oft viel interessanter. Sie stehlen dem Heldenpaar sozusagen die Show. Wobei auch Chris und Jamie ihr übriges dazu beitragen.

Ein bisschen durchwachsen, aber dennoch spannend und gefühlsintensiv. Ich habe es sehr gerne gelesen und freue mich nun auf die Geschichte um Chris und Jamie.(less)

I really wanted to like this book. However, the inclusion of three different romances left very little space to develop what was supposed to be the primary relationship conflict between Nick and Kaylee.

Nick had issues with physical contact with others. Supposedly being touched triggers the fight or flight response although which response was triggered is never articulated. Further, this fight or flight response does not inhibit his ability to have sex with several women at five hours or more at...more I really wanted to like this book. However, the inclusion of three different romances left very little space to develop what was supposed to be the primary relationship conflict between Nick and Kaylee.

Nick had issues with physical contact with others. Supposedly being touched triggers the fight or flight response although which response was triggered is never articulated. Further, this fight or flight response does not inhibit his ability to have sex with several women at five hours or more at a time, just his ability to sleep with them or have non sexual contact with them. And, of course, his flight/fight stimuli is suppressed when he is near Kaylee.

The matching is fairly forced as well. Nick had a troubled childhood which included stealing cars. Guess what? Kaylee had a troubled childhood that included stealing cars. Nick has a secret life and Kaylee has a secret life.

Kaylee was supposed to be a world class journalist but she read more like a National Enquirer writer as many of her stories were about a missing heir of a well known family. Further, she didn't display many characteristics of a world class journalist.

The story takes us back to Africa but for what reason, I'm not entirely sure. At least it didn't seem like a very plausible reason.

I also felt like this story was written with the assumption that the reader could make leaps as the characters' internal dialogue jumped from place to place. At one point in the book, the two are making out in a Porsche:

"She looked vulnerable and hot at the same time and when she tugged at his arm he knew what she wanted. What he wanted.

Yeah, the headers in this car tended to do that easily enough thanks to the vibrations they created."

I get that the vibrations of the car are turning the two of them on, but that's not what those two sentences exactly convey. The headers in the car do what? Know what the two of them want? Make her hot and vulnerable at the same time?

At the end of the book, Kaylee sees a car coming down the road and Sarah, a character from the previous book, running after it. She says that she hopes Sarah doesn't hurt the passenger and then later notes the driver is nowhere to be seen. Why was Kaylee not worried about the driver initially? Why does she worry that Sarah is going to hurt the passenger.

I really like the hero and heroine of this book.... both of them together were an amazing combination. The thing that I didn't like is how they always talked about their relationship in the strangest places. They'd be hiding out and all of a sudden talk about their future. & I mean, really?? is that the right time to talk about all that?
The secondary story about Sarah and Clutch from the previous book gets resolved and we finally get to find out what happens with GOST and it's operatives.

These 3 brothers and their stories have totally sucked me in. This time around we focused on Nick and I finally got to know the secrets in his background that drove me nuts in the last book. We also learned more about Clutch and the craziness in Africa.

I was looking forward to this book after reading Hard To Hold. Nick's story seemed liked it was going to be very interesting after he appeared in book 1. In fact one of the things that appealed to me about this series was the relationship and camaraderie between the three brothers. I just wish there had been more of it.

This book was supposed to be Nick’s story as I stated earlier, but he had to share center stage with Clutch and Sarah’s story (who also appear in Hard to Hold), and third brother Chris and Jamie’s story (he’s supposed to star in book 3 Hold on Tight). Now don’t get me wrong, I think secondary characters and their storylines are an integral part of a novel, but in this book they almost had equal billing and quite simply I wanted more of Nick and Kaylee’s story.

Nick and Kaylee seemed like they could have been soul mates. Both were in trouble with the law during their youth for their car-stealing abilities and adeptness at hot-wiring cars. Both had major family issues with Nick choosing to leave/disown his own family at 14 and Kaylee being abandoned by her mother at 9. And both are keeping huge secrets.

Kalyee is a journalist who’s on the hunt for the truth about her supposedly dead ex-husband Adam. Who knew a dead man could make phone calls? And he’s been calling Kaylee or has he? Kaylee contacts Nick from a list left to her by her Ex as one of the last people to see Adam alive to try and help her uncover the truth.

Together they embark on a journey to Africa which was Adam’s last know location. They discover they’ve been setup and are now in grave danger and on the run as attempts are made on their lives. With Clutch and Sarah in tow, they try to stop a top secret plot to eradicate a group of government sanctioned mercenaries code name GOST of which Clutch is a member.

Despite the secrets Nick and Kaylee are keeping from one another, they have no problem in the having sex department (including in his Porsche and the wet African outdoors).

These two seemed to fall fast and fall hard for each other and frankly I just couldn’t buy into it. Nick had barely been able to maintain a relationship in his past for more than a few hours with other women; had never spend an entire night when he did have sex with someone and could barely stand to be touched. Considering the minimal amount of time he spent with Kaylee I just didn’t believe he could be in love with her.

I will read the third book in the series, Chris’ story, but this one left me wanting more.

Too Hot to Hold by Stephanie Tyler is the second novel in the Hard to Hold Trilogy and like the previous novel, one hell of a book. I’ve read a couple of Stephanie’s other Navy Seal books and she’s got me hooked from the start. She creates a world full of action, danger, sexual attraction and of course fears, one fabulous combination.

Kaylee meets Nick when she finds a list with names of military men in a safely deposit box of her dead husband. Because of that mysterious phone call, she decides to call or visit all these men to find out what happened to her husband. Is he really dead and someone is playing with her or is he still alive? She wants Nick to help her, but he refuses.

Nick eventually agrees to help her and travels with her to Africa, where danger lies in every corner of the jungle. Meanwhile at home his brother Chris covers for him and tries to keep FBI agent Jamie as far away from Nick as possible, not an easy job to do.

I already loved the interaction and huge bond between the three brothers Jake, Nick and Chris. Although they don’t share the same parents, that don’t mean they aren’t close, they would die or do anything for the others, no matter the situation.

The only thing for me to say is that this is one fabulous novel and I’m really looking forward to the last installment in this series.

Nick, is a tough, totally Alpha highly decorated Navy SEAL, but he is also emotionally vulnerable because of a history of childhood...more When I finished reading "Hard To Hold", the first book in Stephanie Tyler's "Hard To Hold" trilogy, I e-mailed her and commented that "Nick Devane" seemed to be a very mysterious and conflicted character. Stephanie responded, "yes, his history is complicated". I'll say! However, Nick's complex, "secret" history is what makes his character so enticing and intriguing. Nick, is a tough, totally Alpha highly decorated Navy SEAL, but he is also emotionally vulnerable because of a history of childhood neglect and essentially indifference at the hands of his biological high profile family. As mentioned in my review of "Hard To Hold", Nick was adopted by the Waldron's at the age of 14, this aspect of his life is fleshed out in "Too Hot To Hold". I won't say too much more, because it will spoil the story, but from my perspective Stephanie Tyler created an absolutely fascinating character in Nick Devane, why? He thrives on danger, speed (he drives a hot black Porsche) and sex with fast women. Nick functions optimally when on a mission, working with his team, he is focused and lethal, intent on completing their assignment.

Kaylee Smith was abandoned by her mother at a young age and raised by a grandmother who disapproved of her. She therefore, battles her own emotional demons but is also tough, street wise and like a dog with a bone when it comes to her job as an investigative reporter. Kaylee writes under a pseudonym and is well known for her tough "no holds barred" journalism. Kaylee believed her ex-husband "Aaron", a military man was killed in action until she receives a mysterious phone call from him requesting her assistance. Aaron pleads with her to come to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with ransom money. Aaron left Kaylee a mysterious list of names of men along with a bank book in a safety deposit box -- the list leads her to Nick.

A major event in Nick's life results in a chain reaction of events. His past comes back to haunt him and despite his covert status with the military, Kaylee Smith finds him and requests his help, and the FBI wants to talk to him.... But about what??

Meanwhile, Chris Waldron, Nick's adopted sibling and teammate hurries home following completion of a mission when he discovers Nick's past is about to catch up with him. Stephanie Tyler develops Chris's character significantly in this book and lays the groundwork for his story to be published later this month. Chris covers for his brother when female FBI agent "Jamie" comes sniffing around the guys house. Chris is a Cajun and has psychic abilities, he drips charisma, charm, and, like his brothers, is dangerous and lethal.

Nick eventually agrees to help Kaylee which requires them to travel to the dangerous and treacherous DRC to help Aaron. Little do they know, they are being manipulated. The plot of this story is fasted paced and thrilling and I think Ms. Tyler incorporates an interesting paradox into the hot, intense romance that develops between Nick and Kaylee. Readers are also treated to a resolution of "Sarah" and "Clutch's" story as part what are intersecting subplots in this story. The climax of "Too Hot To Hold", is IMHO emotional, suspenseful and edge of seat exciting.

Ms. Tyler gives enough background information that I think a reader could enjoy "To Hot Too Hold" without reading "Hard To Hold", first. However, I think it would be far better, to read the "Hard To Hold" trilogy in sequence if you would like to give the series a try.

Heat Level: Hot (no pun intended) Danger and sex make great bedfellows IMHO! lol

Yeah, okay...disclaimer: Stephanie Tyler is my friend. And she's also my writing partner with the Sydney Croft books.

But she wouldn't be my writing partner if I didn't love her writing. :)

That said, I really, really love her new SEAL series. Stephanie writes amazing heroes who are alpha, but not jerks. Oh, they have their moments, but when it comes down to it, they are protectors and lovers at heart.

Even better than the first book in the series, although I would have preferred more details about Nick and Kaylee. I feel like a lot of their story went towards Sarah and Clutch and then later with Nick's brother Chris. The story sort of felt split too much, as if the author was more interested in setting up the plot for the last book in the trilogy. It was still a great follow up book and made me even more curious to read the last book.

Similar to book 1 with returning characters. I just find the romance starts WAY too quickly - not fated mates per se but might as well be. On top of that the coincidence of all the interconnected romances in this (or maybe it was by book 3) was a bit of a strain ability to suspend my disbelief. I'm sure I'll read book 3 as I it wasn't THAT bad and it's the 3rd brother's HEA but I don't see this series as one I'd revisit.

Eh... That's about all I can think to say about this one. At least in this book the over abundance of story lines served a purpose unlike book 1. However, that's where the improvements stopped because there just wasn't chemistry between nick and kaylee. I'm going to go ahead and read book 3 hoping it is a combination of the things I liked best about books 1&2, but that's partially just because I already bought it.

This is the second book that I have read from Stephanie Tyler. I liked it. I felt that the first one had a lot more depth to it and was a little bit easier to stay into but all in all I thought it was good. Sometimes I would get frustrated with the amount of characters and story lines. I felt as though there was potential for so much more in the text. I'm excited for the third book that will deal with Chris and Jamie.

I give it 4.5 stars...there were just a few minor things I would have chgs..some reactions...other than that...awesome!

I like Nicks complicated past family history & medical history.
Kaylee dead military husband...caller her...interesting story line.

My favorite part is when Nick & Kaylee meet.

I have to admit that I picked this book up right after finishing Hard to Hold and it was not a disappointment at all. I actually preferred Nick's character A tiny bit more than Jake. The action was once again fast enough to keep me awake(and it was getting really late by now) and the romance was touching and well written. I love these books, but the only thing I would have liked was a bit more history on Nick's childhood so I could understand the drastic steps he took as a teenager a little more...more

Not as good as the first for me, but still a great romantic suspense. I felt like I was more into Nicks story in the first book for some reason.... hmmmmmm. This book does set up book 3 perfectly and I cant wait to read Chris and Jamies story!

Fast past, great action and a thrilling ride to the end. Loved the characters and I am looking forward to seeing several of them again in the next book.
