Remember that 1950 flick D.O.A., where Edmond O'Brien is fatally poisoned at the outset and spends the rest of the movie trying to find his murderer before he kicks off? Dead, She Said takes that plot to the next level -- in this case a hardboiled detective wakes up with the nastiest hangover ever, drags himself upright on the bed and discovers his guts are spilling out of his body. He's clinically dead, but his rotting zombie body -- still filled with quips and a thirst for hooch -- hits the st...more
This is another graphic novel deserving higher than 3 stars based on artwork alone. But the story is an average 2 and I think 3 stars reflects the entire work as a whole.
The story begins with a detective waking up in his own blood. Once he puts himself back together, he sets out to find who shot him.
Dead She Said is a classic monster tale, and full of many gruesome scenes, targeted at fans of horror mysteries but there's hardly enough story to maintain an interest. The ...more

If I were reviewing only the artwork, this book would be a five, but since I have to review the story...I have to average. Too bad, because I love Bernie Wrightson. The story was obviously supposed to be "film noirish" and harken back to the "big bug" films of the fifties. It did that, but the story itself was just a little too silly.
The very best part of this book were the extras at the end. We get a selection of comic covers Wrightson has done and every single p...more

I really really liked this. The art was great, very stylized, captured the noir feel really well. And the story was really well done. Short and sweet, like a good noir piece should be. Even having said that, I wish it had been a lot longer.
So you would think a mash up of noir, sci-fi b-movies, and gore would make for a great comic book. Unfortunately, it just makes a mess (at least in this book)
Yes - the artwork is nice - but not nice enough to overcome a crummy story.

Fun, quick read. Liked the artwork. Wish there was a bit more to the story. There was a good wack of pages at the end that was given over to 'art gallery' and a bonus story.
Note to comic publishers: very misleading when you print a 104 page book and half the remaining pages are covers, sketches, and other non-story items.
This is sure to appeal to those who like dark, zombie-type stories. For me, it was just okay.
I loved the meeting of the sci-fi and noir genres.
excellent work from bernie wrightson as usual
it was ok

Better delivery than concept.
