It was so so so good! The cultural information is fascinating without being boring, the characters are lovable and Jill has an abundance of depth. After her husband leaves her and their baby daughter seven years ago, Jill and the baby are homeless, sleeping in their car with no one to turn to. Jill builds an entire life from that point on. Now, seven years later, she owns a nice little home in an up and coming neighborhood and her daughter is ten. Jill works as a phone guide for Great Girlfriend...more

Just as Jill is wiping down the counters from her Chinese cooking class, she notices a man with dark wavy hair standing outside the classroom door. It was her ex-husband, Seth, who had abandoned Jill and Anastasia seven years ago.

First of all, Claire Cook is adorable! We just have to be friends. I laughed so hard through certain parts of this book that I just knew the Cook and I would be gabbing and giggling all day if we met.
Besides humor, Cook also writes honest, believable characters that you can literally see being your next door neighbor or even yourself.

Claire Cook never fails to come through. Since my first book review, which was for Claire’s book SUMMER BLOWOUT, she has never let me down when I pick up a new book of hers to read. She has a way of making even the toughest things in life bearable and her talented writing draws readers in through her marvelous stories, clever dialogue, and her captivating characters. In SEVEN YEAR SWITCH, readers meet Jill Murray who is one of those characters I just mentioned who captured my interest right off ...more
Seven Year Switch: Revision In Life
I'd never heard of Claire Cook before I read a blurb about her novel, Seven Year Switch. The blurb stated "every seven years you become a completely new person," and went on to say Seven Year Switch was a novel about "accepting who you are and growing into who you want to be" ( ). That grabbed my attention. While I don't know that I can agree with the seven year time frame, I do recognize that there are definitely moments whe...more

Jill Murray feels like she finally has it all together, seven years after her husband Seth left her and their three-year-old daughter Anastasia in the middle of the night, leaving only a note behind. Sure, she's working three jobs to make ends meet, and sure, their house isn't as nice as the others in the neighborhood, but she's managing it, and all that really matters to her anyways is Anastasia.

Once again Claire hasn't disappointed me. "The Seven Year Switch" was FANTASTIC!!!!
Jill Murray had, or so she thought, a wonderful husband a wonderful marriage but Seth unfortunately did not. He picked up one day seven years ago and just disappeared leaving Jill with their two-year-old daughter, Anastasia.
Jill finally figured out how to live on her own, with a job and caring for her young daughter Anastasia and being both a Mom and Dad to her. One day out of the...more

Oh me…oh my…I do love a great absorbing fascinating charming and cleverly written summer book. Did I mention uniquely funny, too? If I didn’t…I am mentioning that right now. This is the tale of Jill and her 10 year old daughter Anastasia who have been making their way through life on their own for the last seven years. They have been abandoned by husband/father Seth who just couldn’t take a normal domestic life any more…not one more minute…so he tucked a note under a pillow and ...more
Full of humor, this quirky novel by Claire Cook was my first one by her. She writes with style that instantly draws you in, taking you on a whirlwind, witty ride through out and by the end, you've laughed out loud so much your cheeks hurt....or at least I did! But, I must warn you this: I went into this book knowing it wasn't a Christian book, so I wasn't displeased with the mild use of language, however, if you don't like even mild language then you may not want to give this book a try. BUT, th...more

She works two jobs answering phones for Great Girls Getaways and also teaches a cultural cooking class. She meets Billy who hires her as a consultant around the same time Seth, the ex-husban...more

I have never read anything by Claire Cook, and I am not sure that I will again. It wasn't that it was bad - the book itself was an easy fast read and I read it in one day - it's just that the characters were very one dimensional and the story very predictable.

Seven Year Switch is "chick-lit" perfect for the beach. It's short and sweet and filled with likable characters. And, yet, it offers a reminder to all of us to make sure we keep our sense of self, and that we don't let others control our destiny. Jill Sanders nas been treading water since her husband, Seth, left her seven years ago, surviving, but not really living her dreams. She has surrendered her sense of self to being the uber-mom to her only child, not really moving on from the h...more

this was not as bad as i feared it would be. so there's that.
jill's husband left her and her daughter seven years ago. then, he comes back just as she starts dating. hijinks ensue.
honestly, the premise bugged me the most - if my hubby left me high and dry for seven years (or, you know, 7 weeks), i would not be so keen to expose him to our daughter once he decided to remove his head from his sphincter and get his act together. i also wouldn't just leave him alone in the ho...more

SEVEN YEAR SWITCH is instantly absorbing, absolutely endearing, and has characters who feel like real people. Jill is smart, kind, creative, and has a dry sense of humor. I absolutely loved her. The conversations between Jill and her neighbor had me laughing out loud, and I identified with her moments of insecurity and doubt. I love the way Jill works to do what's best for Anastasia, even when it's hard for her, and I love the way she's honest about her struggles. Because Jill has such a st...more

Jill Murray has to figure out how to raise her daughter, Anastasia, alone when her husband deserts them. She awkwardly stumbles through life, though to some degree she is successful in creating a life for herself and her daughter. When her ex-husband suddenly reappears seven years later, she has to make adjustments to the life she had built. Jill had finally met a handsome, charismatic man who she can imagine developing feeling for. What will she do now that her ex has made an untimely and u...more
This was a light summer read, but I was not overly impressed by it.
Jill finds herself a single mom of a precocious 10 year old girl who she has been raising on her own for 7 years, since her husband walked out on them. Jill basically martyred herself to the cause of single mom, and has not learned to be on her own or to fully use her talents to enrich both her and her daughters life.
But every seven years things switch up.

This book can be happily enjoyed in a quiet afternoon. It has numerous amusing bits, after all who doesn't have a Cynthia in their life. The characters are decently fleshed out, you just got enough to give you some idea of who they are and probably can find a friend who sort of fits that description. While I enjoyed the book, it's certainly not a heavy read nor one you have to slog through. I thought the ending was more than a little abrupt and I guess much like life, there's no neat and nec...more
