I think that I like the idea of this series better than I have the series. In this book, the first 175 pages or so were great-it started out strong...and then just got kind of boring. Don't get me wrong, it did pick up after that, but at that point I was kind of over it. I caught myself skimming alot. Never a good sign.

It is a very cool idea for a plot, though, it was the delivery that lacked.

The first half is good … and then it goes Dangerously Downhill!

This is the second book in Foley's "Inferno Club" series and follows My Wicked Marquess, which came out June of last year. Neither one garnered a high rating from me, let alone reread status, and they both proved that Gaelen Foley is definitely one of those "hit or miss" authors for me. My Dangerous Duke was a miss, but it did not start out that way!

Here is a historical romance that is for the truly serious lover of the genre and who finds the complicated story and extensive cast of characters stimulating and educational in its own way. Such are the novels of Gaelen Foley and those who are in possession of such a hunger for novels that are meaty in their content and written with flair and vivre, this is their kind of book. This is what one reviewer called an " . . . improbable spy story" complete with the undercover government a More...

What's not to like when the novel features a tall, dark, mysterious, wealthy, and powerful man going up against a woman who knows her own mind, who reads the classical languages, who has been on her own and is able to care for herself, and who has now come through some harrowing experiences, more than most women of her time could even conceive much less endure. Yet there are aspects of this novel that are very complicated, such as Rohan's involvement in the Inferno Club and his undercover work More...

The fishing village attached to Warrington's estate is actually filled with smugglers who've been ignored in favor of transporting secret messages for The Order. Some of the younger smugglers start trying to make money the fast and dirty way, but crashing ships into the rocky coast. When a Coast Guard agent tells Warrington about his people's goings on,he heads back hoe to scare them back into line. He then stumbles into an additional plot that ties his young smugglers to The Order's arch enemie More...

My **BIGGEST** criticism by far, however, was about three *very* questionable moments. It is a huge issue for me - as it should be for everyone - when books in this genre romanticize rape. There was nothing so blatant here, but there were definite problem areas and I've had this with Foley books before.

* EXHIBIT A * Kate shows up the first night, is brought to the great hall where she is offered/given to Rohan, she's been drugged and thinks he's about to rape her ... yet she is attra More...

Kate Marsden is a heroine who has been secreted away in the English countryside and has grown up secluded from the world around her but surrounded by her beloved books. She lives a solitary and self sufficient life. That is until she was kidnapped by dangerous men who believe her to be someone else…someone worthy of holding for ransom.

Gaelen Foley’s debut Inferno Club series starts off with a saucy bang as Duke Rohan Kilburn, aka The Beast surveys his latest present: a trussed up delectable morsel known as Kate Madsen. But all is not what it seems. In fact, Kate is not what she seems. She could very well be the most dangerous thing dropped into Rohan’s lap in quite a while.

Deposited at Kilburn Castle in the wilds of Cornwall by a band of smugglers, Kate apparently is a “gift” for the notorio More...

Unfortunately, this novel was nowhere near as good as Foley's previous work. I found myself skimming heavily over the important parts of the plot towards the end, which was weak and not nearly as interesting as it should have been. Something about a cave? Not sure what happened there, and don't particularly care. Order, Promethians, blah blah blah. The characters were weaker than normal, and I wasn't really that impressed with the hero or heroine. Foley does an amazing wounded, conflicted h More...

The story opens with Kate Madsen being offered up as a sacrifice to the local bigwig, Rohan Kilburn who is the Duke of Warrington. He is rumored to be mad, bad and not easily placated. The local smugglers have turned to wrecking which Rohan strictly forbade. They're hoping to cool his ire by kidnapping a seemingly innocent young lady, dressing her up as a whore, and giving them to the Duke as a present. Luckily, she manages to convince him that she was not brought to his castle of her own free w More...

This book is 2/3 romance novel and 1/3 Indiana Jones ripoff, all sewn together with Exciting Background Plot rife with Amazing Coincidences and Sekrit Intrigue. The plot was 85% backstory told in large infodump summary chunks throughout the novel, with the result that the remaining 15% of the plot was a predictable yawn.

There is supposd to be a bigger overarching plot that presumably will be explored more in the next book, but it was so big and background and overarching that it w More...

Let me begin by saying, I received a free copy of this book. It was a prize from the 1 year anniversary of the Historical Readers fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am now looking to find the book which preceeded this installation.

Rohan sounds intoxicatingly Alpha male hero. The idea that someone can be cunning, disciplined and stealthy as a trained assassin, yet gentle enough to care for our heroine had me at hello.

For me, the book leaped to life when o More...

PWs, I have to tell you about this one. I usually don't post my smut novels, but this one had a line so bad, it had to be immediately posted for your giggles. Page 29 "If she was nervous of his size, she needn't have feared that, either. He knew how to safely wield the oversized weapon with which Nature had endowed him." Seriously. I usually like this author, so I will finish the book and rate it. But, that line is the worst I've ever read in a smut novel, I think--even though I More...

I really really love this series, it is everything I have been looking for in a series of novels. The heros are perfect in the sence that they are dark and brooding but not to ankstey, the heroins are real women with floors and all and not set up on a pedastal as unobtainable perfect creatures. The books are so well written that the tension and excitement is build but it does not take torterous amounts of time for the answers to be revealed they get to the ponint as quickly as possible.

The second book in the Inferno Club series and was as good as the last one. The main story follows Rohan and Kate but you also have the background theme from the first book continue into this one and it is more prominent as it involves Kate and who she really is.

Kate is offered to Rohan as a gift but he is wary of her to begin with and then starts to realise who she really is even though she doesn't know herself. What follows is an adventure that tests both Kate and Rohan to the limi More...

The relationship between Rohan and Kate is the sweetest thing I read for such a long time. There is so much feeling between those two, you can pracitcally smell it in the air. Nothing is forced and develops at the right pace. I like it especially that they don't fall in the bed right at the begin but rather have time to gain each others trust through getting to know one another. That means even when there are drastic revealments they both work it out without any huge tantrum.

I read this series slightly out of order, starting with Book 3, which I enjoyed enough to seek out books 1 and 2 at the library. Book 1, My Wicked Marquess, was on par with Book 3, and I was looking forward to Book 2. However, it almost feels like Book 2 was written by a different person! I enjoyed the overall storyline, but this book seemed filled with horrible cliches and cheesy lines that either weren't in the other two books, or weren't nearly as noticable. At times it really did provide More...

Ok, I really loved this story. I was just enchanted by the romance, I loved Kate and her Duke. I had read a less than flattering review, so I had kind of put it at the bottom of my stack, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a couple of negatives. I would be reading along, enjoying the plot, when suddenly there would be a section of ridiculously sappy descriptive prose that didn't seem to belong. Also, the "f" word was just stuck here and there in places that seemed totally out of pla More...

This is the second installment in Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. You could read this as a stand alone novel, but you might be slightly confused in certain areas, so I my advice would be to read the first one first. As you may or may not know I love Gaelen Foley's books. I can't get enough. Her writing style flows so well that even the boring parts are addicting. When I read her books I can't help but keep wanting more. Not only are these books filled with romance, but there is action, socia More...

My Dangerous Duke is the second book in Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club series. Kate Madsen is abducted from her home by a band of thieves and offered up to Rohan Kilburn as a gift. Rohan is known by most as "The Beast". Those who look upon his ferocious countenance fear his wrath. Kate is taken to his estate, drugged and against her will as a peace offering of sorts. Fortunately for Kate, Rohan might be a Beast, but he also is intelligent and easily realizes that Kate is much more complic More...

My Dangerous Duke is the second book in the 'Inferno Club' series by Gaelen Foley and although I did enjoy this instalment, I much preferred the first book, My Wicked Marquess.

Kate Madsen is kidnapped and held in a dungeon for five weeks. Oh, a definite favorite! The setup was brilliant - so many things could've gone wrong and would've made any relationship between the characters unbelievable or at least difficult to stomach, but Foley neatly sidestepped the pitfalls and developed something worth reading about. The story does go a little Indiana Jones-y towards the end, and I kind of wish she'd have sidestepped some of the cliches there, but it was still a fun, swashbuckling read, which is my favorite kind of historical!

Ok I have read the first books by this author then stopped reading anything by her. Not sure exactly why since it was so long ago. The book started of really just ok and I was rolling my eyes a couple of times at the heroines words and actios. However somewhere about the middle of the book it just clicked for me. I think even the hero was a little over the top in the beginning like maybe the author didn't know where she wanted to go with him. Then we get to know a little about his background and More...

While a totally implausible English spy story, I admit to loving it anyway. A brash, nasty man, who is a lover at heart, and a scared, isolated woman who is also a lover at heart. Toss in an adventure & roadtrip, plus an amazingly tender evening, and a club full of spies, and I ate it up.

Oh, and I should add that I haven't read book 1, and didn't miss out on a thing.

Ok, this one is my favorite of the two. I loved Warrington; he's such a rake (deliciously so). From the kidnapping to the treasure hunt to the wedding was fabulously entertaining. Though the treasure hunt was boring to the verge of discomfort, but I trudged on and it got better.

Kate Madsen is no ordinary lady, for she is the daughter of a Pirate and is not afraid of anything. Until she is kidnapped and given to the Beast for a gift of pleasure.
Rohan Kilburn is known as the Beast and never plans to marry for the Curse of the Kilburn family haunts his dreams. Yet when he is givin his Gift Rohan never thought to feel the things Kate starts sturring in his blood.

So sad when a book about a dangerous duke and a pirate's daughter turns out to be quite boring. Also, maybe it would be nice if Ms. Foley didn't overuse "blackguard" and if she didn't write scenes where the heroine fantasizes about how pleasant being raped might be.
