Some of the post-9/11 information would benefit from second edition revisions (the opening chronology optimistically included the closing of Gitmo, for example), but otherwise this is a solid, detailed, and much needed work. Unaligned, in that it doesn't exclude individuals/movements which might not make a more orthodox/pious editing cut. Some photos, and reprints of writings ranging from Noble Drew Ali to Suheir Hammad.
While this book is an invaluable introduction to many aspects of American Islamic history there is a heavy bias in favor of the Arab and African-American experience with almost no discussion of the early South Asian experience at the turn of the 20th century.
